I like the idea of using the channel divinity to charm the enemies and making them drop their weapons, then barking out an order along the lines of, "Flee and we will spare your lives!" - probably leading to an intimidation or persuasion check, now with advantage. If you succeed on the check, excellent. If not, follow up with a bonus action command spell: "I said, *_flee_* ."

"Why are you not all fleeing in terror? I specifically requested it!"

You can also tell the charmed opponents to gather in a line or a cluster... setting them up perfectly for an AOE spell if you have a magic user. That is a MASSIVE bonus. Instead of hitting just a couple creatures, you can literally set the enemy up for a TPK.

You can also do bonus action command and choose “grovel” which causes the target to fall prone and then end their turn so same effect as giving advantage with hold person with a lower level spell slot

I’ve never actually seen this class description before I’ve heard about it in passing, and have pretty much only heard bad things about it (because it’s the Internet.) it’s neat how you guys elaborated on the party synergies the subclass will be good for, that’s not something you see often in these types of class overviews.
@malmasterson4 жыл бұрын
Weird, I've had nothing but positive experiences. As someone whose played extensively with most of the domains (I'm regulated to healer often) it's honestly one of the best in combat cleric domains imo. The only one that beats it is forge cleric.

I DMed an Order cleric, and they play *stupidly* well with paladins too. They are situationally powerful, depending on the rest of the party, but when they're in the right party (rogue *and* paladin for options), the combat power goes from 3.5 flumphs to 6. Plus, the ability to use your channel divinity to shout, *"FREEZE! DROP 'EM!"* is pure gold.

I never understood why some subclasses would get innate spells that are repeats of what is available to them through their class spell list, but it makes sense if you consider that casters have limited preparation for their spells per day and the subclass spells are generally always prepared. Learning new things!

Suddenly this subclass got even stronger with Strixhaven coming out, specifically Silverquill students could really benefit (or feytouched feat, because Silvery barbs is an enchantment spell). It even fits with the Silverquill majors including law/legal studies, so you could play an upcoming lawyer ready to shout OBJECTION serving a legal god shaped like a phoenix.

Any Class that can give a Rogue an attack that is nor on their turn (e.g. Opportunity Attack, or any attack as a reaction) can let them use sneak attack again, as Sneak Attack is once per turn and a reaction attack is not on their turn.

i just see a small problem in combining hold person and VOA: if the rogue gets VOA it can just attack, not move. so it need to be either next to the enemy already or in ranged mode. the latter being more handy in general. hold person only works if within 5ft, so only in melee mode and only if the rogue is already next to the opponent. this probably happens if there is only one enemy who is paralized and the initiative allows to do so. kind of makes the synergy, at least for me, quite situational, but in my campaign we rarely fight against single humanoid enemies. anyways, i dipped 1 levl order cleric with my lore bard and it works out pretty nice, especially after my groups rogue switched from melee to range.

I have a Order Cleric. Rolled super bad on two stats (7) so i made an old dwarfen commander type. He gets weak from his age and is not super agile animore ( put the sevens in str and dex) i play him more as a backline healing/buffing type. Not missing much damage cause either my melee buddies get a free attack if i spend my action healing or buffing them or i spellcast. High wis, con and char and it works like a charm also hell of fun to rp. I really like to play with strong weaknesses. So commanding from the backline, dominating the social parts and making everyone better is alwys nice. Nobody complains that he rolled tongood or had too much advantage, i love to help my party be the heroes and have fun :)

Hey guys, its me again. I know other people have mentioned this build but here you go. 18 lvl's cleric, two lvl's paladin. Half orc, and at lvl 4 take the aberrant dragonmark feat to learn booming blade because it also ups your constitution. at lvl 11 with a great axe the average damage with the hold person combo is 106 dmg on the nose. yes you could do other shenanigans with multiclassing but this way you get your 9th lvl spell slot. I call him God's executioner

Battlemaster Fighters are also scary with these clerics. Especially if the cleric has War Caster. Commander's Strike, in theory, could give the Cleric a reactionary spellcasting, which chains to another character due to Voice of Authority and 3 people are jumping a monster. Edit: Yes, as written, it's only weapon attacks on the manuver, but I'd allow it for some cool combos

For anyone watching this video in 2023, and you want to add grossness to this build: multiclass into Divine Soul Sorcerer. Just one level. Fits thematically, RP wise, and...Silvery Barbs. Make an enemy reroll their d20, give an ally ADVANTAGE, and they get to IMMEDIATELY attack with that advantage. Amazing combo. So, Hold Person, target succeeds save, use Silvery Barbs as a reaction to make them reroll and then, save or fail, give an ally advantage and they get to immediately attack. If the target DID fail, any attacks on them while paralyzed (as mentioned in the video) is an automatic crit. Cmon now. Also, they mentioned the rogue synergy, which is AMAZING, but it's also good with paladins. Automatic advantage (and crit if paralyzed) on a divine smite? Good damage.

In defense of order's demand, I think you guys forget just how interacting with objects works in combat. In order to pull out/interact with/move items, weapons, potions, random objects etc. You need to use your free interaction. You can't pull out two things at a time. you can't stow two things at a time.... You can't pick up two things at a time. So let's use your shield example for reference. Let's say your facing off against some armed orcs with Scimitars & shields. You use order's demand and about half of them drop their swords and shields. Now they can only choose 1 to pick up on their next turn unless they burn their action to pick up the other. This also means that if they want to pull something out on the same turn, then they'll have to choose. Just some food for thought.
@URGE4 жыл бұрын
True points. I’m pretty certain I said “drop your shield” not sword and shield. It would be up to DM I guess if they let you say multiple things in one order, but I specifically said just the shield to be on the safe side. I was then assuming they could use free action to pick it back up. If DM allows multiple drops, that gets even Better. Thanks for watching!

Not sure what you mean by hard to understand. Could you elaborate? Do we just talk too fast (yes we do lol)? Also, as I mention with the “Asterisk,” we rate RP on the abilities of the subclass and how they may help in non-combat scenarios like interacting with the world. We don’t factor in things like class fantasy, but focus on the mechanics of the abilities outside of combat. Thanks for watching!
