Sir ,in the first lecture of the solution you said that solid solution exhibit the crystal structure of either of the component .But here in the intermediate solid soltution you are saying crystal structure different from either of the component
@srinivasan34634 жыл бұрын
In the first lecture you've told about the compound has a different crystal structure from either of the component. Now you've told that the intermediate solid solution has a crystal structure from either of the component. Which is true? Is the intermediate solid solution is a intermetallic compound?

Sir is there any example of interstitial solid solution which are intermediate solid solution type?or are all interstitial solid solutions only primary solid solution type?
@introductiontomaterialsscience3 жыл бұрын
To the best of my knowledge, all interstitial solutions are primary. This is related to the fact that the solubility of interstitial solutes is usually very limited.

How it is bcc.. You said that it can either be fcc or hcp

Sir, I have two questions: 1. Are intermediate solid solution and intermetallic compounds same?? 2.Sir in V.Raghvan it is written that Beta Brass is intermediate phase..So sir is Beta Brass an intermediate phase or intermediate solid solution??
@rajeshprasadlectures4 жыл бұрын
Intermediate phase is a phase which does not extend to either of pure components. It can be a solid solution or a compound. This depends on the composition range over which the phase is stable. Strictly speaking, the compound should be of fixed composition. A solid solution should exist over a range. If you look at the phase diagram of Cu-Zn (Fig. 7.10 of Raghavan) beta brass has a composition range of about 5%Zn at low tempearure and higher at higher tempearure. So I would like to call it an intermediate phase which is an intermediate solid solution.

Disordered beta-brass has lost it's 50-50 atomic% of Cu and Zn. So why are we still calling it beta brass? Is composition not the dedicing factor what kind of brass it is?
@rajeshprasadlectures4 жыл бұрын
There is no change in composition in going from ordered to disordered or vice-versa.
@suriyaprakash86634 жыл бұрын
I think on the whole composition remains same(50 50 ), although there may be variations from one unit cell to another
@salmanwaqar49665 жыл бұрын
Sir I am watching your videos regularly and found them very helpful. Sir you said that because body centere and corners of beta brass have different atoms so it does not qualify as BCC structure. Do you not think that first it's violation of Humes Roothery rule and secondly we have same example of alpha ferrite solid solution possessing same structure and known as BCC.
@studyia015 жыл бұрын
it is already have been said Humes Roothery is not compulsory and it can be violated .this rule is tends to rule

Sir will primary solid solution always be disordered ?
@introductiontomaterialsscience3 жыл бұрын
Ordered solid solutions form when the components A and B are in some simple ratios like AB, A2B, A3B, etc.
@prakharbhalla94613 жыл бұрын
@@introductiontomaterialsscience sir can such ordered solid solution change to unordered with increase in temperature as in case of beta brass. And also sir if it is of fixed composition as you told A2B or A3B. So will it be solution or intermatallic compound
@introductiontomaterialsscience3 жыл бұрын
@@prakharbhalla9461 Most ordered solid solutions become disordered above a certain temperature called order-disorder transition temperature. A perfectly ordered solid solution is no different from a compound of fixed composition. If the composition varies then the degree of order is less than perfect.

Having crystal structure Solid solution - one of the components Intermediate solid solution - different from either of the components Compound - different from either of the components As per the the definition of solid solution it should have the crystal structure same as one of it's components ... While in intermediate solid solution definition is not same as the solid solution still we call it int... SOLID SOLUTION !! Is not it violating the definition of solid solution ??
@introductiontomaterialsscience4 жыл бұрын
I think for intermediate solid solutions we have to accept the fact that it can have crystal structure different from either of the components.
