Great choice!! That V8 300 Mercury is 147lbs lighter then the V6 Suzuki 350 and it’s made in America!

Great Capt Mike! It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks of the drive power or make but you are obviously happy with the choice. It suits you and your needs and beyond. I say more power is less strain on the entire set up. Good to see you back for a minute!
@skullhart4 жыл бұрын
Mike if you like the Merc and it treats you right then it was the best choice. The look is so different from other engines it's hard for people to accept but it does have sleek lines, especially from the back.

Great choice! We run trip 300 Verados on our 31’ Safeboat and they all have over 5000 hrs with two of them over 6000 hours. They are work horses for our agency and run like the energizer bunny! Can’t wait to see a video of you out chasing fish on the new Latitude! Tight lines!

What sort of paces do you put them through? I work with a lot of outboard boats in the 75-225hp classes and I seem to notice greater reliability out of certain models when used a certain way. Don't have any experience with the modern Merc and am curious how they compare to the reliability of Yamaha - which will not leave you stranded, even when heavily abused and behind maintenance schedules. I'm assuming fleet engines are well maintained?
@justindodd71054 жыл бұрын
Samuel Carpenter yes these are fleet engines and well maintained. We do a lot of idling or running around 1200-1500 rpms but we do get up on plane as the area we cover is about 60 miles long one way. We respond to emergency calls and run full after a long idle and have no issues. We have new ones on order so we can retire these.

Will be interesting to see how this performs off shore a bit. We run 20 to 25 miles off shore in seas that can get a bit crazy at times. I like to classic lines of the hull, but curious as to its ability to handle a rough sea... Keep the videos coming while not in the market at this point, I have been following your journey on purchasing. Thanks for doing this.

It'll be interesting to see if the 300 Merc is enough power with all that weight from the live wells, plus gear and people. IDK, but that 350 Suzuki might have been a better choice? I had a pair of 140s (propshaft hp) on a 25 Dusky, and it wasn't enough power. And I know the Dusky was heavier, and there's more drag with twins, but still.... Anyway, good to see light at the end of the tunnel. She's looking good!

Skippah pulled a Kansas City shuffle on us! I thought you were making money sense by ZuKing it... but you went with the gnarrrr!!! Verados have come a long way. I love my quads 350s!! They are solid, you will know when you pack all your gear, every bait well full, tackle for anything and everything, all the customers you want and their gear, three yellow fin tunas each weighing well over in the hundo club in icy water and you tell everyone when the deck secured “coming up!” You will know. That smile will hit your face again when you hole shot the weighted down beast, that torque will earn the respect from your customers “shit, better grab onto sumtin”. And you will be smiling inside totally forgetting about catching not one but three of the baddest creatures on earth!! All focused on the power!! Haha you should be pumped!! 🤙💰😎

Suzuki has parts made in China so the issue might be can you get get parts down the line for maintenance. Mercury is Made in America so the issue about parts is moot. Better to think 3 steps down the line about supply from China as we close trade down from them.

Love the show. I am looking at getting a new boat and was wondering why you did not max out the power on your new boat? If I am correct, this model can hold 500 hp. Every boat I have had so far has been short on the hp due to $$ and I am not looking to do that again just to be disappointed. Is the 300 hp enough for this along with a fully loaded weight, i.e crew, fuel, bait, gear....?
