I think of Once More to See You in a more broad sense could be seen as a longing for a past relationship that's being threatened by external factors, but honestly almost everyone agrees that it's queer coded 😭 I personally see it as VERRY queer coded--Like an LGBT couple that has to keep their relationship a secret due to outside homophobia, stuff like that. It could also be a secret relationship or forbidden love. But Mitski's songs can be interpreted very differently for different people !!

the way i see “Once more to see you” is a relation ship that’s not accepted by loved ones or the general public. For example a queer relationship ship or different races where your parents don’t agree or something. This song reminds me of my first relationship with a girl as a girl. Having to hide our entire relationship in order to keep our reputations clean and be allowed to continue seeing eachother. My friend says this song reminds her of when her parents banned her from dating her boyfriend if 2 years when they found out because he was mexican and she was asian and they wanted her to marry an asian man.

Y'all need to get into boygenius. I know their self-titled album won them a Grammy (or maybe it was the single on that album), but their EP is imo even better and more cohesive. Although it seems you guys prefer faster-tempo music (like Mitski's punk-rock songs) and boygenius' self-titled album has more rock and pop in it, whereas the EP leans more folk. I think as a group they sound best harmonizing on slower pieces - like their slowed down cover of The Killer's song "Read My Mind" (not in the EP/album ofc) is out of this world.
