What's up Tre! I'm going back through your playlist and watching my favs again and making sure I didn't miss any. I have to say that I love the peppy little smooth jazz intros like you have on this video! Keep up the great work my dude. I'll be going to the CCAP at Piney point in a couple weeks thanks to you and I'm getting excited.

First, thank you, Mr. Williams, for making this informative video. You mentioned the three things ABs should carry on them: a flashlight, pocket knife, gloves, & chanel locks(?). I understand the first three, but what is a chanel lock?

Hey Tr3, I was thinking about joining the Merchant Marine business, and I had initially planned on studying to be an AB, but I realized that I probably can't do this as I am partially colorblind. Does colorblindness prohibit sailors from working as an OS as well? And is OS strictly for sailors working on becoming an AB? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated
@mart.sav.98612 жыл бұрын
In europe at least You can't go to sea as a seaman if youre colorblind, you wont pass medical examination, but you can go as a motorman As Wiper and eventuali an Oiler , and yes OS its a rank before AB , where I'm from you need at least 18months sea service before you can become an AB.

Enjoy your video . I am going into the program next year . I was interested in engine department but doing some research i see more AB jobs than engine and steward dept. What made you choose OS to AB route? Was it because of more jobs or what you would rather do as a merchant mariner ?

Sea time alone is 4 years. If you are sailing half the year….that’s 8 years. Plus a few classes and license exam.
@luzdivina22352 жыл бұрын
To 3rd made you must complete 1080 sea days. Then you must hold your 3rd mate license for 360 sea days to apply and test for 2nd mate. 1 sea day is = to 8hrs of work in the ship. If your shift is 12hrs you complete 1 and 1/2 sea day every worked day.
