The only thing I'd hope for in the R6 III is the pre-capture mode of the R1/R5 II. The pre-capture on the R6 II isn't very good if you want to shoot RAW! But the 30 fps is a downgrade from the R6 II! Therefore I hope I can resist the temptation to buy the new R6 III and keep my R6 II. This camera can do more than I probably ever will need!

I know many people like to have that flip out screen - but as a sports photographer, I really never use the screen at all especially out in the field and I think that's what the R1 is used for the most. I never review photos on the screen either as I'm usually out in the field in full sunlight and would rather look at my pics right in the viewfinder where I can see the full colours and brightness. They could remove the LCD screen altogether and I wouldn't miss it at all. If you're using the R1 as a Vlogger or to produce videos, I think you might have the wrong camera. Maybe the R5II would have some better use for the flip out screen, but I honestly don't think it's missed in the R1, not for sports which is what that camera does best.
@DreamReleases18 сағат бұрын
The rear display and all those touch AF and other programing features to display on that display, and that includes all the video functions, is priced into the value of the camera. Without the rear display, it's not worth the price you paid for it. And many sporting events photogs take other pictures not simply of the "event" itself. Photos of athletes are taken in many other settings besides during the "Event". Not many athletes would even care to peep a photo through your micro EVF. And not many sports photogs that I know personally would care to hand their camera to a subject or client to peep an image through the EVF. In addition there are many "sports" photographers that choose to use their Canon R5 as they did the 5D.

Depends... in video, the dynamic range is much better. Architecturally, the R5 II should have less noise at high ISO. That's the whole point of moving the circuitry to the back side of the photo site.... Not sure what happened here.

Well, it would make sense for the R6 to be made compatible with the R52 grips, including the cooling grip and that would make it a much more practical video camera too because it’s also crunching roughly half the data to produce video so he would probably make it a lot more reliable as a video camera for long form recording.

Do I care ... no ...as having tried the sensor in the R6 ii and knowing what my R5 Mk 1 was like for noise (having had one for 3 years) the R6 ii is a brilliant camera and sensor combo. The low light performance and focus improvements over my older R5 made me buy it. If I want another R5 I will wait until the R5 ii is about to be replaced as new prices are crazy and the new model is often not in the real world much if any better than the older model for most shooters. The law of diminishing returns seems to be coming in massively with cameras now.

I don't know much about the science of high iso and noise, but its 2024 going into 2025, is there technically a way that noise and grain can be removed by the sensor of whatever (and I don't mean in camera noise reduction), but that you can shoot at 6400 and have a clear as day, absolutely sharp, zero noise image in jpeg or raw, because of some advancement in technology of the cameras. Because it seems the cameras have peaked now and Manny said the same thing and there's still no security features, because if no one steals cameras then no one is replacing them and camera companies need those thefts .
@JohnSwen-p6bКүн бұрын
In simple terms no. There is no technical means to remove noise. Noise is present in every image you take even at low ISO, it is just that at low ISO there is significantly more S/N.

A stacked sensor, all things being equal, should produce less noise than a traditional sensor, but the Nikon Z6 III and R5 II have shown otherwise... I'm thinking about things in a different way than I did before I started watching your channel. For instance, I'm much more aware of Canon's development cycle, but also their forward vision. I remember in the past people saying that Canon doesn't innovate - but they come out with a perfected version of what the other companies are doing. That sounded good at the time. But more and more, the others are flipping the script, and the appearance is that Canon is just lagging behind in the technology war. But I just realized that the biggest thing is that they just don't seem to understand perception. Honestly, the LCD in the R1 may wind up being superior to the R6iii (probably will be), but the PERCEPTION of a lower-tier camera having an OLED vari-angle screen when the recently-released flagship doesn't? It makes their "flagship" seem like less and less of a flagship.

Would be awesome if canon can compete with Nikon here

That's why Canon pisses me off! They always know how not to treat their higher end camera customers...

Simon, All things considered this is a more-than-decent upgrade over it's predecesor. But I'm imagining the whining beginning to crescendo. "Deal breaker!" I hear shouted from the rafters. Realistically, an adult-sized HDMI port? Praise the Lord. Sure, they should have upgraded the guts to a CFExpress 4/PCI 4 card-reader/bus. And what? No 32-bit float audio? I guess we'll have to wait for the Sony A7 V for those. (Just kidding.) But someone has got to be first with upgrading the data paths.

The only thing that it is missing is CLOG2 and it sucks because looks like cripple hammer.

These rumours that come from rumour sites are basically a bunch of photography geeks listing off the things they WANT to see in a new camera. They did this with the R5 II and R1 for about 3 years (or more) and were mostly incorrect about everything. It's fun to read and think about but I don't believe most of it. I remember when Canon Rumours said the R6 II was coming with a fully stacked sensor (as an example)... they even kept this story right until the day before it was released/announced and were wrong. Even thought the R6 II isn't stacked, it's still got a very fast sensor. In fact it has less rolling shutter than the z6III when shooting 4k60 as an example (Tony Northrup showed this not too long ago in a side by side comparison). The AF on the R6 II is already amazing, better than the R5 was, better than the z8 or z9 or z6III and is essentially R3 level. I shoot hockey with it and it NEVER misses focus (and that's with an adapted EF 70-200 2.8 III) . I can't imagine it getting better to the point that it will be a game changer any more. 12 FPS mechanical is more than enough for any sport (I shot as a pro with the world's best 1D systems that shot 10 FPS and were used by Sports Illustrated and rarely ever missed a shot due to FPS... only missed due to AF inaccuracy and the R6 II is miles ahead of those 1 Series cameras).

Hmmmm...why R6m3 would that just make us R5M2 buys angry? I mean I waited so long for the R5M2, then a R6m3 at a cheaper prince...hmmmmm...pretty much makes me decide the R5m2 will be my last Canon last me till I'm 6 ft under. If R6m3 is a success...why buy the R5m2...the consumer pie is only so big as afar as us old farts. But maybe Canon will make up for us old people with new youngings so maybe that's a good market....make more money by selling more cheaper cameras and less money by selling expensive cameras....will I guess the bean counters have figured it all out...profit is king regardless of how one gets there. this was a good video, didn't care for the R4 one.

I’ll just buy a 2nd R6 II for a cheaper price.

An OLED screen on the back?, BIG mistake on Canon's end. While yes, OLED technology has gotten better over the years the risk of burn in is still there. Lets take a look back at past tech that had burn in: PS Vita, Most OLED TVs from 2013-2021, iPhone (forgot which model) and certain computer monitors. The root cause? the hours long display of static images on screen, which cameras have a lot of. And for professionals who can easily spend long hours/days shooting the risk is increased. Cameras are an expensive piece of tech and it would be a tragedy if all the new OLED cameras were plagued by the same issue. Sure hope Canon updates the warranty on these newer cameras. Great video as always and happy holidays.

New Sony cameras have the best articulating screens. Next update, make them a litttle bit bigger and make them OLEDs.
