After having owned my 2001 Toyota 4 Runner with an Old Man Emu 2" moderate suspension lift for a little over a year, I thought I'd let you guys know what I think about it, and if it's a suspension that you should consider. Check out the video to see what I think.

I have had a complete OME kit installed on my 98 Cheorkee for 6 years now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Handles very heavy loads, provides a great ride on and off road, just an all around great suspension system.

My son is looking to add a lift kit to his '98 Cherokee XJ. Which lift height did you do on your XJ? And which kit would you recommend for occasional offroading? Thanks!

Great video. The suspension is not MacPherson. The suspension is long short arm with coil over type shock/spring assembly. Just keeping record straight. Glad the Emu system is working.

I still really like the suspension. I'm hoping that OME starts to integrate an adjustable reservoir shock in the near future too though.

Tim Rose thanks! I’m so glad that you like my vids, and that I was able to help out in some small way. I run 265/75/16 which in the GoodYear Duratrac form measure out to 32.25”. With this kit though, I know some are running 33’s. If you want to run larger, then I would suggest going with the 2” lift kit, getting the adjustable upper control arms, and a 1” body lift. I run 32” because I do a good bit of 5-7k lb trailer hauling and larger tires rob low end torque unless you change your gearing. Which I don’t want to do.

Thanks! I'm glad you like the vid. The kit that I bought from sleeoffroad.com has the 906 rear springs. Since I have the Wambumpers.com front bumper and the smittybilt 9500 with steel cable, I wish I had gone with the HD front springs though. I have about a 1/2" sag in the front now.

Eric, how has the finish held up this kit over the last year? I have seen mixed review on the powder coat. have you experienced lots of rust or any other finish issues?
@EricJemAndes

Mine has held up pretty well. Next week, I can give you a bit more of a detailed update on the coating quality, as my 4Runner is not in my possesion at the moment for some detailed cleaning i wanted/needed to have done.

I'm ordering this same setup now. Did you install or need the diff drop spacer? In the vid it seems like your CV axle angle is pretty level and not extreme.
@EricJemAndes

I did not need the diff spacer. What you see in the video is with the stock diff mount setup.

had a question... I have 883 in front with Bilstein 5100 and loved the look before the bumper. after the bumper I am sitting almost back to stock. would you add a strut spacer to get the lift back?
@EricJemAndes
@EricJemAndes 3 жыл бұрын
You can do spacers for Sure. Toyotech offers some that I know of. However, if you want a better suspension experience over all, I would look into the Hd front coil springs. 882’s (?). Www.SleeOffroad.com can tell you the right front spring to install. I honestly can’t remember currently. Toyotech also has some spring options that they could recommend to solve the leveling issue. When possible, it’s always better to have correct spring rates, vs just adding spacers.

@@EricJemAndes thanks man, I am happy with the way the spring handles the weight, just don't like the height after bumper. may look at the eibach 620# springs. thanks for the reply

Planning on getting an OME 3 inch lift on my ‘21 4runner, would i need to purchase an aftermarket UCA? Sorry new to the lifting game, always owned sedans.
@EricJemAndes
@EricJemAndes 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not super familiar with the newest models. However, at 3” lift height, just about any factory UCA is going to be pretty well Maxxed out for BJ angle. One of the after marker extreme angle spherical Ball Joint UCA’s would most likely be a good option. You might check out www.toyotech.com SleeOffroad.com Totalchaos.com

J P no problem. I didn’t use a UCA. Do to the overall gained height, it wasn’t needed.
@EricJemAndes
@EricJemAndes 4 жыл бұрын
J P if you plan on seriously Offroading (frequently, and lots of front articulation) it would be a good idea to run upgraded UCA’s as this lift with the stiffer (overweight) springs in the front, puts you very close to the limits of the OEM UCA’s. I would also recommend running extended brake lines in the Front.

Sereno Leiva Mine was $858 base price from Slee Offroad (www.sleeoffroad.com/products/4runner_suspension.htm) However, I also had to buy new camber adjustment bolts and front strut top hats. In total it was just around $1000.

Did you get any lift ?
@EricJemAndes
@EricJemAndes 5 жыл бұрын
I did get lift. About 1.75 in front with the 880 springs, and almost 2" in the rear with 906 springs. I just recently updated the springs though, here is a video on the update and why I decided to upgrade. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4KzeWtjd6p3l7M With the 880 springs on the front, I lost height when I installed the front bumper and winch. In total, with the extra weight while running the 880 springs, I lost about 3/8" of lift. Once I upgraded springs, the T4R leveled out at just under 2" of lift. Sleeoffroad.com has a good break down of the lift kit options, what you'll get out of each kit (average lift increase), and extra components you might need. sleeoffroad.com/products/4runner_suspension.htm Hope that helps!

What is this kit called? Thank you!
@EricJemAndes
@EricJemAndes 7 жыл бұрын
Sleeoffroad.com calls it "3rd Generation 1996-02 Low Lift OME Suspension Kit". One good thing about this kit that I forgot to mention is that it can grow with you. If you want to upgrade later to the 2.5" to 3" lift the same shocks will work.

Eric McGrew I was trying to go with a max of 2 inch lift, and was looking at going with the ome springs and using the blistein 5100 struts and shocks? Also what ome spring would you recommend for a 2 inch lift for the front? Im not going to be carrying any load. Thanks!
@EricJemAndes
@EricJemAndes 7 жыл бұрын
The low lift kit (as is the case with most suspesion lifts) started out just at 2 inches of lift in the front, and with the past year has settled to 1.8" approx. This is common. The real difference (as I understand it) between the 2.5" lift (which will most likely settle in at 2.25") and the kit that I'm running, is that the kit I'm using has standard duty springs, and the 2.5" has a Heavy Duty Spring (for hd bumpers, winches, carrying gear). So, if you want your truck to be just under 2" go with the OME OME906 Rear Coil Springs. If you want to be around the 2.25" (final height) mark, then get the OME890 Rear Springs for normal ride/load characteristics. I do seriously suggest running a full Bilstein or Full OME (front and rear kit on your rig though. Bilstein has a different valving than the OME's, and each companies spring rate and shock valving are built to work with their own designed components. If you choose to go Bilstein shocks with OME springs, then I suggest talking directly with Bilstein and getting their suggestion on what valving set you need in the 5100 shocks. As they over various valving rates in that modle. You can find out more of what they offer here. www.bilsteinus.com/fileadmin/user_upload/user_upload_us/pdfs/Bil_OR_shocks_bro.pdf I hope that helps.
