him and Sam Pilafian are the 2 best tuba players alive. theres a lot of debate over who is better, too me i believe Oystein is better, in part because he has formed a career soloing on the TUBA!!! soloing on higher instruments is normal, but to make a successful career on the tuba is extremely impressive

The instrument is a good part of the performance. You could buy a new car and house for the cost of the Tuba. Money is everything in an instrument sound..
@Chriss_Fishes6 жыл бұрын
That's simply not true. Hand Baadsvik a $1000 Chinese-made tuba. He'll sound amazing on it. The instrument definitely plays a role in tone quality, but it's mostly left up to the player. A $40000 tuba does help, though.

The rain is beginning to lessen and the sun is rising, only this time the sun shines upon a world without issue. He said before he performed this piece, that he was inspired by the sunrise. Also improving the quality of many young musicians, aiding their success. I literally taught myself how to play tuba and admiring you, attempting to emulate every aspect of your playing style has been such a challenge. You are truly unique and gifted, no one would ever come close to you musical abilities, therefore, help us young tuba players go down your path and become great like you.

When ever I'm struggling to find motivation to practice or just even be bothered with music (which is a problem as I'm studying a performance undergrade on tuba at a conservatoire) there are a few videos I go to to rekindle my love and remind myself why am trying for a music career. Grimethorpe's Danny Boy, Karl Jenkins - Benedictus (Cory and Only Men Aloud's performance), Anything that Mnozil brass play, anything that Alessandro Fossi does, but above all I find that Oystein Baadsvik is the most effective at making me understand that although it's a lot of (at time tedious) work, it's all completely worth it for performances like this. He is truly a master of his instrument and I hope I can see him live one day. Although there is the problem that it is currently 00:15 and all I want to do is play my instrument but it's too late :(

It's a Miraphone. Specifically this one is a "Starlight", and his older stuff is on a "Norwegian Star". I've got a Norwegian Star and love it to death, it's a really flexible tuba that can handle almost anything you throw at it.
@BattleToads10 жыл бұрын
It's more the player than the horn. Baadsvik would sound like a million dollars on a beat up old tuba that has been at a middle/high school for 30+ years.
@KoboldCommando10 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, the Norwegian Star's a nice mid-sized Eb. It's bigger and broader than those teeny tiny solo F tubas, but it's not as big and clumsy as a full symphonic CC or BBb.
@54321blader7 жыл бұрын
It's very much the horn aswell as the player. All three parts have to be quality to produce a quality sound: The Player, The Horn, The Receiver(Mouthpiece) all have to be well enough equipped to make something, especially something like this piece, have the beautiful sound it does.
