🍾🎉 500 likes in well under 24 hours! You folks are amazing. So as promised we'll be composing a custom sound track for the next video, so we better get to work! THINGS WE MISSED: 1. The V3 Basalt competition version is NOT BPA-free and while it's still rated food-safe, this maybe a no no for a lot of you. If this bothers you then buy the regular V3 which is made of Trogamid which is BPA-free. 2. You can negotiate the Kalita filters and while it significantly reduces bypass the brews didn't taste as good as the flat filters and the draw downs are slower.

I reccomended giving the Timemore B75 crystal eye a go. The flow rate is really fast and the brews are tasty. My best results come when i use it in combination with a cloth filter and a melodrip. Keep up the good work.

I currently have my brewers narrowed down to the Orea V3, Switch and Aeropress, depending on what I am feeling like that day. My Kalita, Stagg X, Origami and regular V60 sit on my shelf looking pretty anymore.

I've had the Orea and for a couple months now. I'm primarily using the circle to center pour and my brews are tasting good. The negotiator trick was great! I bet you just made a bunch of people's lives easier. Also, I use the negotiator on the Kalita filters.

Bought it three months ago and I’ve used it less than 10 times. Its habit more than anything else, but I end up using the V60 or Kalita as allways. One of the things I like the most about the brewer (besides its sleek design) is the fact that I can use the Kalita papers, but when using them, I feel by pass is off the charts. On the other hand, buying the special papers with the negotiator and putting the papers in place every morning seems a hustle I prefer to avoid. No matter how many new brewers I buy, I all ways fall back to the good old Japanese OGs. Old habits die hard, I guess. Btw, @Aramse, every time I want a more thick drink, I use your Sofi72. Love it. Please provide us with more recipes.

Great review and tips, matches well with my experience of using this brewer for about a month. What I also found helpful with stalling was what Patrik Rolf mentioned in the April Coffee review of thid brewer. Namely, that the first pours draw down quicker than the later ones. His recipe of two 50g circle pours and one 100g center pour have been working great for me so far.

Bought the Black LE they came out with a few months back and I have been reaching for it time and time again. It’s truly the best flat-bottom for me, all my brews are supeerrr tasty, it’s easy to get the hang of and easy to maintain too. Love the sense cups but they are impossible to get a hold of 🥲 Would definitely love to see the video on pouring techniques and maybe a recipe you’ve been enjoying 🙌🏻

The Orea is worthy of a lot of respect. I hear you can 3d print the negotiator, so that's something. I have a Timemore B75 coming in the mail though, which was 15$ discounted, and it seems like it has a lot of overlap with this if you stick with kalita style filters

I'm also excited to try it. Seems like a good entry into flat bottom, and if I like it the Orea is still unique and interesting enough to add to the collection down the line, even if they are similar. I went with the Tritan, preheating is more of an issue for me than plastic

Great video. I've been using the Orea for a while now and get some good brews but would like more consistency so a pouring technique deep dive video would be awesome. One definite way I found to stall the Orea was to negotiate when the filter is wet.

I've had more stalling on the orea than with the Stagg X, I guess because of the design of the holes. I'm thinking about 3d printing a Stagg negotiator which leaves some space at the bottom and has some holes for easy saturation. Love this video a lot, great work!

I’d definitely like to try this brewer in the future, but the flat filter + negotiator combo feels like a very crude and expensive alternative to a kalita type filter. I’m hoping that with this recent surge in popularity, the company will be able to afford a more custom paper filter for its brewer.

The Kalita filters are essentially flat and round too but have been factory formed to make life easier. If adoption of these new flat filters increases then we could start to see pre-folded ones in the market.

I don't think calling out the £63 setup price is a 'nitpicky' criticism. An equally plastic V60 is £6 and 100 Cafec filters £10. And those make a fine brew.

Also, I find that I get better results folding a v60 filter (I use the Cafec ones) for courser grinds and the Kalita filters for finer grinds. I'm getting the negotiator 3D printer and buying flat filters to see how those work out.

I use my V3 with a custom cloth filter from The Cloth Filler Company (UK). I really like the brewer and the results it gives. (I have also tried the flat papers and the Sibarist papers, but I haven't tried "wave" as I'm more interested in using Orea for zero bypass) I'd certainly be interested in a discussion on the variables of pouring technique and the contribution they make to flavour and how they apply to different bean characteristics/styles (florals Vs chocolate/caramel)

What’s your go to recipe. And what grind size (c40 or ODE+SSP) do you use when using no bypass method?
@aramse
@aramse Жыл бұрын
We've had great results with a bloom + 2 pour recipe when using negotiated filters. 15g dose, 50g bloom and wait 45 secs. Then 2 100g pours to get to 250g total. The timing of these pours and whether we're doing centre or circle pours depends on the coffee and how the brew is progressing. As a rough guide the last pour starts around the 1:20 - 1:35 mark depending on draw down.
@MinimalUnbox
@MinimalUnbox Жыл бұрын
@@aramse great, this is very similar to my recipe… this is my issue though. When I set around 18-20 on Comandante (ODE+SSP 4.0 when 1 is 5 click past chirp) , my cup tend to taste delicious but the draw down time takes too long - sometimes 5-6 min and the cup is not clear but muggy, when I increase the size to 26ish (ODE+SSP 6.0) draw dawn is reasonable but coffee taste under extracted and sour-ish. I use light roast…I do wet WDT for bloom. Flow rate from my stagg is 5-6ML/sec. Kettle height slightly below break up point for the bloom, and I lower the height to half for second and third pour

Great video! But did you know achieving a true "zero" bypass is not possible; there will always be some degree of bypass in any brewing process. Instead of fixating on on the latest fad of trying to eliminating bypass completely, it might be more beneficial to focus on reducing channeling. Zero bypass is just one little rabbit hole in the whole process, where as great water and coffee is a “game changer “. Nothing is cut and dry the truth is that sometimes adding a small amount of "bypass" water after brewing can enhance the floral notes of the coffee or other times, a well-agitated conical brew may be perfect and occasionally you might prefer a higher coffee-to-water ratio or less bypass. But a higher extraction definitely doesn’t make a better cup. If a higher extraction is the goal drink espresso. Embracing a "zero" bypass approach for every coffee would mean really missing out on lots potential from beautiful coffees.
