Oregon coastal streams open to trout fishing in late May each year. These streams are teaming with resident Coastal Cutthroat Trout and numbers increase as anadromous searun Cutthroat enter these systems starting in summer. I fished the Little Nestucca in late May in search of some resident Cutties on my ultralite rod setup.

One of my favorite things about coastal cutthroat fishing, is they are laying in the same holes and slots that the steelhead will sit in when they come up stream. I was catching cutthroat on the alsea one early autumn day, when my buddy hooked and landed a beautiful native steelhead. One of my favorite fishing memories

Used to set up a tent along a small brook and spend a couple of days catching brookies. Would use a very small bladed lure with treble and bring it over a boulder. As the lure dropped in front of the boulder that's when the fish would hit. Great Memories. Thank You for video!

Small stream fishing will always be special to me. I was introduced to the outdoors fishing small PA streams for stockers. It’s also why I love chasing steelhead on these small coastal streams. The sounds are so relaxing and peaceful. Just hard to beat.

When you make it to strawberry reservoir in Utah, you’ll find that you’ll have to wade through the cutthroats to get to the Kokanee. Strawberry is famous for its large cuttys which average between 18- 25 inches easily. They are aggressive and plentiful.

This video brought back so many old memories!! As a kid I spent countless hours fishing for cutts along the Willamette tributaries around Corvallis and all over the upper coastal tribs. Thank you!!

@@lucasjamesellingson-cosenz3924 There is Star creek, Beaver Creek and others south of Philomath, but you have to secure permission to trespass on private land. These are very small populations that can handle very little harvest, so I always practice very careful catch and release

@@AKPakrat thanks for the recommendations. Yeah looking at google maps, a lot of those small creeks look like they cross through peoples properties. Sometimes they look like they cross through or pass by public roads, so definitely warrants investigating and could be real fun. Caught a cutty at santiam in lebanon today, and intend on trying marys and lukiamute up above wren later.

Great video. The small river and creek fishing is so much fun for many reasons. Offers a great break and escape from other types of fishing. I would be beside myself if I caught an SRC the size of the one you showed in the picture. My biggest from the rivers so far has been about 15”.

Here in Northwest Oregon we catch quite a few sea run cutties when fishing for summer run steelhead. Some of those cutties are rod benders and at first you believe its a small summer run steelhead and it turn out to be a 18 inch cuttie. My wife and I release most of those cutties unless they are hooked badly and would not survive if released which is only very few.

We use the same combos for bass and trout, you must shop at Bi-Mart? lol. For the price, I don’t mind having to replace a few of the guides every so-often on those UL Cilello rods. Really hard to beat those President reels.

Here in my region of B.C. we are only allowed one single barbless hook. I’d like to use rapalas but am unsure of which of the 2 spots to put my hook. The back seems obvious but do they not tend to take the rapala head first most times? Wondering about your thoughts on that.
