Oregon Rocks!: Rockhounding Oregon| Smith River

In this video I head towards the Oregon coast to visit Smith River in hopes of finding some nice river agates or petrified wood. I find some interesting Serpentine outcroppings but decide to enjoy the day hanging out in the river.

Nice serpentine!! I didn't realize the stuff was so magnetic, Maybe its just the super strong magnet? We have some carnivorous plants here too, round leafed sundew!! Great video by the way, loved those drone shots🙂

That is so funny . I was going mention the bears. Grandfather in law lived by scottsburg and the amount of bears on in pressured land was just incredible. Lots of garnets there as well? In the Smith? I was way up where it's pretty small though.

I live like 5 miles from the smith and I don't even bother! I find nothing, not even good jasper! However, the beach (Kellogg) at the mouth has some nice agates and great jaspers!!

I grew up in Crescent City, that bear trail is always a sure bet for spotting them. The Picture plants are found in Darlingtonia Bogs.

"Look I'm an otter!" LOL Great footage!! Looks like your in serpentine country! Those pitcher plants are awesome, looks like they are hightly specialized for the ultramafic/serpentine soils. Its crazy how theres just 500 pound boulders of the stuff in every direction

It must be bear season, Nate from Quest For Details saw one too, I'd love to see a bear, they're amazing. That is some fascinating serpentinite. Did you know that was what you were going to find there before you headed out? Super clear water for a dip. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Man! It's actually kinda my job. I fly drone for real estate agents while im not in school and I highly suggest getting one. They are pricey though, mine was (in total) about $2500 but I also have a top-of-the-line unit with 4 batteries, a case, extra props, etc. If you do get one, I suggest going with a model that has features which may sound weird but many dont have virtually any capabilities besides take off/land and obstacle avoidance is vital.
