Oregon needed special teams to come up huge to save that game. I said it before the season began, Dillon Gabriel is an accurate passer and can duplicate a lot of Bo Nix but he doesn’t have the deep ball or the elusiveness running. But most of all, Lanning is not that great a coach. He’s pretty good, and with their talent they’ll win most games. But he had to take Tosh Lupoi and make him a D coordinator because of his top level recruiting skills. He is not a top level defensive coordinator. I see 2 losses this year, and Duck fans will once again be disappointed.
@princeofgreece9054Ай бұрын
Disagree about Lanning being a great coach. What I do agree with is Tosh Lupoi not being an elite D coordinator. Dan Lanning needs to seriously evaluate his coaching staff, because what I am seeing on the field this year so far is a lack of preparation from his coaching staff. Defense looks very solid I will say however, they have been the bright spot of this team. I am not sold on Will Stein. There is some really questionable offensive playcalling going on this year it just feels off.
@princeofgreece9054Ай бұрын
If the issues that plague this team aren't fixed, then of course its cause for concern. However, I think its a testament to the talent on this team that they can play as horrifically bad as they have the last two weeks and still come away with wins. Boise state is not a bad opponent at all, their offense is very legit. The bright spot of this Oregon team is its defense. Seems to be very solid in all phases including the improved secondary. If they can lean on the defense until the offensive struggles get worked out, I think they can still make a deep run. Remember, Washington last year looked horrible against most of their opponents last year but they won when it counted and played up to their opponents level. Making predictions in College Football is like rolling the dice. Anything could honestly happen.

its MAJORLY concerning. But what bugs me is the head in the sand Duck fan that says oh nothing to worry about, the team is undefeated 2-0, a win is a win

BSU is a good team, and if they stay healthy they’ll be in the CFP. They gel together! Oregon doesn’t gel yet, but still won the game even with horrible turnovers. If Oregon does start to gel🤞🤞 they’ll be dominant. The coaches are really screwing up with 11 different o line combos in this game. They need to pick a starting lineup and ride those guys til the chemistry develops!
@MattBuild4Ай бұрын
Well now they actually have to hope NIU loses at least 1 probably 2 games to make it, or require so help from other MWC to beat P5 teams (good news is other MWC teams do have a lot more of these games, bad news is id probably think UNLV is the only ones who may actually do it. But BSU also has to focus on their season. Got WSU in two weeks.

@1876OregonАй бұрын
Oregon is not gelling yet. Slow starts are caused from them trying to dink and dunk their way down the field. And I believe it’s because of three reasons. The OL injury, and moving of the 325lb center to RG, affected the middle of the line…especially since they were playing a 305lb center, who was a fifth yr walk-on. Once they moved Laloulu back to center, and put another 325lb player at RG, at the end of the BSU game, they moved the ball on the ground. The second reason is the helmet communication. I think it’s actually slowing Oregon down and taking them out of rhythm. The few times I’ve seen them speed up and not waste time on communicating with the quarterback… They moved the ball much better. I think this is an offense that needs to play fast, and not huddle, and not make checks at the line every play. The third reason is they were trying to play vanilla against teams they thought they would easily beat, when they prepped for their opponent. And the main reason-they’re trying to save the good stuff for Ohio State. But after the first game, and two drives in the second, they had to let it loose and open it up, since Idaho and BSU was stopping the dunk and dunk. I really believe they thought they’d be able to have a basic gameplan, without using the mid to deep passing game, and QB run. They still have only had Dillon run once, but after seeing how dominant it was, along with the deep passing…I know they’re holding back for sure, for Ohio state’s defense…so they have less to prepare for.
@princeofgreece9054Ай бұрын
I actually agree with a lot of what you just said honestly. They have a lot of transfer's and players that have not had time to seriously gel together yet. That does take time. I feel back for Charlie Pickard, but he was the major reason for the major struggles on the line. Once Poncho came in at center, the line looked improved just from that alone. However, I refuse to chalk up the offensive struggles to vanilla playcalling. It's just straight up bad playcalling. Not vanilla, just bad. Running the ball three times in a row on 1st and 17 when it isn't working is a recipe for disaster. It gives your team the idea that you have 0 confidence in their ability to throw the ball or create plays. Again, this is just a feeling I have from watching the game, but I honestly feel like Will Stein simply is not it. What is the point of keeping vanilla playcalls just to almost lose twice at home? I seriously don't think that is the case.
@granthaag2560Ай бұрын
That second reason about the helmet communication is interesting and a possibility I hadn’t thought of…
@1876OregonАй бұрын
@@princeofgreece9054 Well, think of it like the spring games accross college football. They all admit they play a vanilla gameplan because they don’t want their opponents to have any film on them for the season. Ohio state is a program changing win, and the biggest game in regular season history for Oregon. Especially since this can slingshot us forward in recruiting and conference momentum for several years in kids homes. So I think Lanning knows he doesn’t want to waste the big play bullets on the first 5gms. He doesn’t want OSU’s defense to be ready for Gabriel running it 9times for 75yds, or UO throwing it all over the field. Or a reverse, flea flicker QB throw to Kenyon Sadiq. Stuff like that. They want to save those big game bullets for Ohio State. When you look back, he saved the big plays in the Idaho game. And he tried to save them in the Boise State game until the 3rd drive, when they realized they couldn’t play bully ball yet with Pickard at center. But I do agree with the play calling. I hated the 5 straight runs, with the last three being after the holding call first down, from 1st and 20. That was right in front of where I was sitting, and everyone was booing because they hated the play calling too. But I expect the OL play to keep getting better, but I still think they’re gonna keep playing bully ball, or have a vanilla gameplan until Ohio state. The last thing we want is to have Ohio State ready with a QB spy for Gabriel, like Auburn did in the national title. Or have them ready for all the exact pre snap looks that we used in the first 5gms, if we tried to blow everyone out.

I think you guys hit the nail on the head. The oline isn't on the same page. And Gabriel is dumping passes off before making good reads. All comes with practice. They need to practice more. I think playing in a foreign environment will put a big enough chip on their shoulders to wake them up.
