Wow! What a great video. I also like my comforts so showing the trailer and then your camp set up really had my attention. You really caught how having a shell makes rain fall a refreshing experience instead of stopping and waiting for the worst of it to pass. You have a lovely car port to pull right up to the door for unloading. It lets the house wife in me see how much space is needed for the doors to be wide open and still have room to walk around. Your bike door and windows look very nice. They seem so sturdy too. I was thinking something using velcro would come across as cheap but these bad boys are hinged and latch shut. All those raindrops on the windows would have fallen inside and then too the cold air is blocked. Little things add up to make such a difference for those of us up north. Showing a run up to the store or an over night in the tent really lets me see how the loss of a car is really the loss of cash blowing out a car tail pipe. If you have a snowblower just to get out of the drive way, you are going to keep one car for use in drifts and deep snow. You show that everyday is not a blizzard and these bikes have a place in winter. I am looking at how you hang up your helmet and keep a water bottle within reach towards the back. Is the camping pad on the dash to keep stuff from bouncing off? I can't tell what would fit up there and stay while underway. A guy in Canada uses a fan for foggy windows but he has a floor. Do you ever have fog freeze on the inside or need a rag just to see out? Thanks again.
@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon 6 жыл бұрын
Very few ELF owners wear helmets or want doors. Only in the very coldest weather would doors help but they also cause window fogging because we are exercising in a small space. I have 4 years of experience with the ELF as my only transportation. The ELF is by far the safest bike ever made, with 1000 sold and 5 million road miles logged we have recorded 17 car/ELF collisions with no driver injuries beyond bruising. A rag is a bad idea for plastic windows, they scratch. If we experience fogging we add a 12 volt fan which can also be turned to cool the driver on hot windless days.

I think the PEBL is better for rain. It's completely enclosed including on the bottom so that no water is splashing up on you and there is no danger if your feet slip off the pedals. They have an option for a 64 amp hour battery.

I use full foot platform pedals for my ELF, very comfortable with anything from barefoot to work boots and they have substantial heel cups. Contacting the road surface with your foot while moving is definitely not going to mean an injury every time, a smooth road can't grab your foot easily. All the injury risk takes place only when your ankle is backed up against the wishbone frame while it encounters some rough patch in the road that could grab it and still, the worst thing that might happen is your shoe getting pulled off. I have no problems with rain, my elbows get wet, so what. Rain falls down, not up so the open floor is a great way to keep vehicle weight down and get maximum ventilation in the rain. Because my ELF weighs 70 pounds less it does great with a 17 AH battery which is good for 25 miles with no pedaling. In my 5th year now I still have never run a battery down to shutoff thanks to the great free solar panel power.

I'm upgrading the motor to a 2000 watt motor for better hill climbing. It will also increase the speed from 22mph to 32mph (speed isn't the intent) Moving the electronics and enclosure to a plastic enclosure mounted in the cab for easy access. Add a 2 port battery cable so I can plug in 48vdc 20 AH batteries. In the past I upgraded the motor and controller.

@@brianduncan2149 sounds cool. I am aware that the pebl has a switch from 750 to like 1500 to climb hills but they say that you have to stop completely in order to flip the switch? Somehow this doesn't seem practical to have to stop. Hey I am all for freedom of movement, and not much of a friend to extortion by the legal mafia commonly referred to as government. As long as you can travel safely, without hurting others, I don't see a problem, personally with a faster motor for assistance. Don't let me stop ya. But ya might want to learn about your right to travel and the legalese trap that is created by revenue hungry groups of people through word magic double speak. Did you do your own trailer hitch? That seems very handy to have. But like you said, the more you add the heavier it gets. You almost need more power to make up for the weight I would think.

I designed a trailer hitch /pannier rack. Like a car my car can hit 100MPH where I drive 70 on the highway. Im not a fan of the European low watt motor laws and the 20MPH U.S laws. I have the power and can use it when needed. I usually cruise at 18MPH

jeorlie - It is quiet on smooth roads. Small video phones don't have accurate microphones that record the noise level correctly. The design uses a quiet gearless motor. Very cool setup. Does that solar panel you’re towing power the battery in addition to the solar panel on the roof? Or do you use it to charge your camping gear & electronics? I was planning a cross country trip on a regular ebike towing a trailer with a solar panel...but then I saw the ELF & PEBL and was like...hmmm 🤔 That looks interesting! But i just read that the company that makes the ELF went bankrupt. So i guess if i do go for one of these for my cross country trip, it’d be the PEBL.

you can use the solar panel to charge your phone / laptop...really any accessory. I have a smaller trailer very light weight made by cycle tote in Arizona with 2 each 150 watt panels. I have a lot of other bikes and trikes I don't have videos for. Having a trike causes a lot of problems when crossing country. I crossed 1/2 the u.s on the southern route with a conventional touring bike . 2 wheels is the best way, theres just no room for a trike in many areas. The elf / pebble are good for local adventures 60 miles or so. if trails for rails ever links there network across the us....then a elf or pebble would be awesome. Check out another video. Search dog e-bike camping, you will see a cargo solar bike I have
@BikeTall
@BikeTall 5 жыл бұрын
brian duncan cool thanks! Yeah, i agree. Trikes are interesting comfort wise...but not the most road friendly in some areas. I follow a dude named Matt who is traveling around the world on a trike, and it looks pretty sketchy in some parts. Plus repairs are more of a pain as well as transporting it by plane. I’d like to try it someday, but think I’ll stick with 2 wheels for now. Less hassle.
