Welcome back all! In this video you join me in the workshop where I show you a simple but very effective toolbox organization solution made from foam that most people would throw away.
At the end I also discuss wood carving and show my attempt at making a "kuksa", a traditional Nordic coffee cup made from birch wood.

also good for kneeling on and jamming screwdrivers in to keep them handy whilst working.

Very good for kneeling on! I reckon this stuff has come in more handy than some of the things it was protecting!

Brilliant idea Ash. Keeping tools tidy is a must. And definitely found it useful to as a winter cushion. Nice bit of wood carving. Keep meaning to start doing more of it. Take Care Bud 🙏

A good job, well done! It's always better to have your drawers tidy, than your knickers in a twist!

It is the same. Shadowfoam is a perfect example of someone selling you something you dont need. Like putting lipstick on a pig - it may look pretty at first glance but you'll regret spending the money in the morning. 😂😂

Lipstick on a pig... love it 🤣 Not that I have anything against them, each to their own. But yea, it's the same. Would be nice in black but I'd rather not buy it

Yep, I saw that video and also went to the homepage..., and immediately forgot about it. The price is only viable for a professional, who uses his tools virtually every day, and not like me, only about once a week. Your idea is the ideal way to dodge those prices (well done), but it's not worth the effort for me, to change my way and system i've had for years, adjust my muscle-memory to accomodate something new into my long standing messy system that works well for me. My wanting, was only really to keep up with the Jones's and to perhaps be a show off about it all to me mates, but that's not really me. But hey... hats off to ya. Just sorry, that one person it helps, is not me.

It doesn't work for all my drawers for sure, some are "messy" on purpose. But for the ones that I try to keep things in order it's ideal. For example the precision screwdrivers (wera drawer) all have a small picture of the bit size on the handle so it's nice to keep them all facing upwards so at a glance I can grab what I need without searching. I enjoy implementing little things that make my work flow smoother 😊

Yeah I love this solution. My batteries have arrived with similar packaging/ I've been using the foam yoga matts that you find in the middle-of-Lidl fro time to time. Have you considered trying a spring pole lathe for wood turning as a proof-of-concept? "Mortise & Tenon Magazine" have a youtube video about their "The Spring-Pole Lathe".

Yea that stuff works really good actually. Many uses that aren't yoga! 😆 I haven't heard of that, will take a look. Thanks👍

Behind with vids, love that your so organised...wonder if the foam stuff they use for flower displays would work too. 🤔 Nice woodworking there, you could sell them 😊

Think the flower foam is too crumbly for this idea, sets my teeth on edge just thinking about it!

Yea as already said, I think the "oasis" stuff wouldn't last very long before it starts to come apart. I bet you could find this packing foam in the bins at industrial areas no problem. Thanks! 😊

A great idea. How do you manage to cut only two layers from this material? The layers are glued together. Do you cut it at an angle?
@ash.pollard
@ash.pollard 5 ай бұрын
The glue is not very strong, once you start to separate it then it comes away easy. I just cut straight down with the knife and then peel it like an orange 😊

Haha it's almost as useful as the battery itself! Nah not yet, I'm still not sure what the plan is to be honest. Got a few ideas though

Don't totally dismiss the bench mounted small metal lathes, there's a few channels on here that show you how to improve them/get good results, Steve Jordan being one of them. I've had mine for 15 years or more, it's come in real handy, making all sorts of parts for many things that I've had to deal with. Sure, it can't handle brake drums off a car for example, I'd love to have a larger lathe but I just don't have the workshop space or money for one,....any lathe is better than no lathe, I certainly wouldn't want to be without mine now.

I guess it's probably a gamble if you get a good one or not. I was talking about the REAL cheap ones haha. I've seen alright looking ones for around 3/400 to be fair. I wouldn't need a massive one anyway, probably struggle to even power it 😅 If I find a small one that has some reviews behind it then I might have a dabble. Would be a lot of fun learning and I guess for things like plastic and soft metals it would be quite handy.

@@ash.pollard Research it like anything else, most of them come from the same Chinese factory it would seem, you can do some simple mods to improve them. I don't have 3 phase power supply so them running off standard 240 voltage is ideal. Like with any lathe, you can spend a fortune on all the different types of chucks and tooling so keep that in mind. Yes, I've made a few plastic parts on mine too but steel is probably my most used material. I use carbide inserts rather than HSS tooling, the standard cutting tools are junk to be honest, carbide is the way to go even on these low powered machines.
