OMG. My husband moved out seven weeks ago and I’ve been paralyzed. And part of his problem was the cluttered house. As I’m listening to this I’m doing it. I’m actually freaking doing it. And I looked up. The video is only halfway over and I’m so glad. Thank you!!!!!

Love this today, I was a very active quilter and managed to get a whole cabinet full of quilts. All finished never used. Yesterday I piled up 23 of them and took them to my favourite charity, which is the local pregnancy centre so that they could give them to the babies in the girls. It really felt good.

I have to say thank you again! Yesterday, I decluttered and cleaned my master bathroom (after doing the same to master bedroom the day before). Well today, we found out the floor in the master bath is rotten around the toilet from a previous leak. Our son came to our rescue and I was so calm because it was clean and organized so no stress for me. I could let him in there with out feeling horrible because it looked awful. I love this feeling. I’m not stopping here!!!! THANK YOU, spoken through tear filled eyes!!!

I needed this today. I am 7 months pregnant with a 4 and 3 year old as well. Our family has moved 3 times in the last 5 years and I am SO drowning in all our stuff. I have started decluttering but I really wasnt feeling it today. I took your quiz and I am a ladybug 😅 so my first instinct it to just get everything off every surface and cram it somewhere to deal with it later. I sat back and realized I am never going to feel like it so lets grab the trash bags.

7mo pregnant here too, with 2 other little ones also. It's a hectic phase, and especially if you've moved a lot of times recently. If you've started decluttering you are doing well already! I've found Steph from a Secret Slob and Erica Lucas (especially her first decluttering videos) really inspiring if you're looking for some more inspo from people in similar-ish phases.

I'm absolutely sick of clutter in my house so I've been decluttering for 2 days while binge watching your videos with some Minimal Mom sprinkled in. I've donated 4 bags and 2 boxes of stuff and I've thrown away 4 bags, so far. I'm currently working on another bag each of donations and trash. (I didn't even realize how many empty boxes I had saved until I started clearing the closets. 🤦‍♀️)

I have been full time caregiver for my daddy from age 81-88 yrs old. He has mixed dementia ( Alzheimer’s & vascular from a 20 yr history of TIA’S and an ischemic stroke in 2020.) His dementia escalated very quickly since 2020 and he demanded more and more of my time, day and night. I also run his rental business and all his finances and drs visits. I managed to keep up with our laundry and did housework at my house and daddy’s mobile home just steps away, but lots of other things were neglected. It finally took a toll on my health and my disabled 74 yr old husband said it was time for a change. Daddy is now living in an Alzheimer’s unit and is adjusting quite well. I am physically doing better and thanks to videos like yours I am starting to take my life back and declutter and organize. It gives me such a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction to see my kitchen, Dr, laundry room done so far!!! Thank you for your help🙂

I’m sooo behind in my housework because I spent soooo much time helping my parents before my mom passed in 98, then dad remarried and shortly I was doing it all over again. I put me and my house on autopilot and now catching up seems impossible

@cindypatrick785 6 ай бұрын
@@Butterfly04able it’s not impossible,you just have to be patient with yourself. When I looked at my “ stuff” and started decluttering I felt overwhelmed too. But I put these Utube videos on and let clutter bug be my cheerleader!!!📣 It helped me accomplish a lot in a short few days. I have more to do for sure but I’ve had to pause again because my 74 year old husbands health has gotten much worse now and once again I’m a full time caregiver. It is what it is as my spiritual big sister says😏. Set a goal for yourself to do a little bit each day. You can do it!!!🙂

Shauna Neely, I am 65 and have had to combine my parents house with mine. Now for the last 3 years, I have been going through years and years of "crap". Some of which had not been looked at in 15 plus years...or more. We have all had so much stored that we didn't have a place to put the things we need to use everyday. Overwhelming has been an understatement. So I broke it down in pieces. I did 1 closet or 1 cabinet or 1 chest or 1 drawer at a time. Trust me when I say, the more you get rid of, you will suddenly find yourself slinging and trashing things like crazy. Next thing I know, I'm down to needing to do 4 closets in our upstairs and everything else is done. Two of the closets, I can't do because they are my dad's. He has hyperventilated at all the things I have gotten rid of. But he's a hoarder and he struggles. I had to start using black trash bags and cleaning while he sleeps. He can't get downstairs. So sometimes I just have to make him think I am storing things downstairs. But ultimately it goes out the downstairs door. Just start anywhere. You will feel so much better!!!!

Today & tonight I have listened to u twice more and am filling bags for donations from every room in my home. Tysm for your tough love encouragement & inspring me to further downsize how much I own. I have chronic pain so most days are already a struggle. Feeling stress relief from filling bags of stuff that I don't use or need 💜

Thank you, Cass! It all makes so much sense. Not making excuses, but I come from a family of hoarders. I have been working on myself, by myself for about 3 years. Started with my closet and got rid of about 80-90% of "stuff". I still have a long way to go, but you are so encouraging. It got me into a different mind set. I no longer shop for crafts and "stuff". I have gotten rid of so much over the last few years. There have been points where I have felt defeated and would slow down. I still do not shop for "stuff" and I jump back up with a second wind. I am hoping I will have the house cleaned out by the end of this year. Now that hubby retired, he is willing to help. Thank you for keeping me going. After watching this I filled 3 grocery bags to get rid of.

Yes, to scheduling donations!!! Covid killed my home in terms of clutter with kids schooling from home on and off and us hardly going anywhere and even donation places closed. So when things opened back up it was piled high in our guest room (I mean, I’ve got 2 young girls, so they outgrow clothes and books and toys like some of us breathe)! We’re talking couldn’t even walk into the room level bad. I was overwhelmed because I felt it had to be done all at once like a project. But starting to watch your videos (as well as Dana and the Minimal Mom) helped me realize I just needed to take a single step. I put DONATIONS into my calendar as a weekly recurring event. I could post things online for pickup if I knew that was the best way to go or take a load to Goodwill, but every week I had to do something. Didn’t matter if it was even just a single item. And guess what… a year later the guest room was totally cleaned out. I still keep a monthly DONATIONS event in my calendar and all of us go through and find stuff to donate the day before. Because now it’s a habit that has no emotional connection, only practical. 🙂

@@anitaburbank9168 Hi, Anita. I understand. I used to be a dynamo but I am now 70, have chronic health problems that keep me from even getting out of bed many days. My clutter has been in the same place for the last three years when I retired and promptly got slammed with Covid, broke my back, gained 70 lbs, my Hashimoto’s got so much worse and i would just look at it and shut the door and go back to bed. One thing Cass said in another WARRIOR video was to first get rid of all the empty boxes I have been saving all over the house. How did she know I have been tripping over them all year? She IS our fairy godmother! Guess what. I timed myself for an hour and got all of them out in front of my garage and will put them out for trash/recycling tomorrow. Now I am going to lay back down, recharge and know I won’t let this JUNK defeat me. My friend said it might have taken me a while to get here, but I will succeed. So will you. 👍❤️🏆

I have to say Thank you to you, Do it on a Dime, Minimalist Mom and Remi Clog KZbin channels. You each offer different perspectives, suggestions and encouragement that have helped keep my motivation going. It took me all summer but my bedroom is finally decluttered and organized. I actually have empty drawers and a closet with a completely clear floor and a half empty shelf! I also want to pass on encouragement to folks, like myself, who have disabilities. I did this by sitting in an office chair and scooting around my room. My hubby and kids helped by putting things away or getting things down I couldn't reach. But the majority I did myself. I learned patience, my best was good enough and I am worth having an organized and tidy space!! THANK YOU!

The brutal honesty in this video just made me angry with myself and I'm so brutally freeing myself from this bandage of hanging onto things bcz both my husband and I grew up with so little and we keep thinking about how many people around the world that need these physical items. Oh, dear Cass, I need and appreciate this now more than I can express! THANK YOU for everything you shared in this video!!!!! I am YEARS BEHIND and have had no idea where to start. Since 2006 I have been living with a plethora of disabling autoimmune afflictions, constant severe pain from stage 4 arthritis in major joints and my back (doctors also called it "end stage", but saying "Stage 4" sounds slightly less awful, yeesch). The icing on the autoimmune cake is I'm a poster child for Adult ADD. oh, yippee. 🤪 🙄 I can't afford to have enough people come in and rework that many years of built up chaos, so I have to get the process started myself. My mantra has been "broken crayons still color". I have to figure out how to get my broken crayon self to fight through the pain and git 'er done. 🖍

Tit ads up quickly.oday I live minimally and ask myself often:is it worth my energy,maintaining,storing,cleaning? Everytime I feel I losose the possibility to maintain my home, I declutter,no matter if something *might*be useful. It's not useful if it costs me energy. Start small and build the decluttering muscle. U can do it!

Hi Cas I live in the UK and I am disabled with a twisted spine and am unable to stand for long periods and can only use one arm, my left, as my right hand was paralysed as well as the twisted spine was caused when I had meningitis when I was 14 months old. I cannot work due to disability and am a paper crafter. I have home delivery on my shopping. I am making a game out of decluttering. I have only just started but today, I got rid of 7 boxes (5 empty) 1 with an old dvd player that did not work anymore and got a new one as I love my dvds, which are all sorted on a bookshelf in alphabetical order. Another box I took out had a printer in that only printed 3 colours and prefer my Canon. I, on my own carried them downstairs and out to the wall opposite for the rubbish men. I am so pleased with myself. I am doing little bits at a time and have to stop to rest but I have started.

We recently moved to another city. 3200 sq ft down to 1800. This has been intense. My husband is a pastor and has so many books. I am unpacking them and finding so many duplicates! I think he has so many that he doesn't know what he has. I am seperating what I know he wants and putting on bookshelves - his office is smaller that before so one bookcase had to go - I'll have the shelves full of what I know he wants and then a stack of what there is no room for so he can see the reality of it all. No more boxing up and storing!

20:42 Cas, I know this video is old, but you just saved me from myself by giving me permission to put something in the trash instead of disposing of it “properly.” I have a severe mental illness and doing extra things like that are sometimes impossible tasks. I’m listening while wide awake with insomnia. I got right out of bed and put several items in the trash that had been sitting on my kitchen floor next to the trash can, waiting MONTHS for me to take them where they “should” go. I feel like a weight is lifted! THANK YOU! ❤

Nothing proves how much crap you DO NOT need like your house burning down. Ours did 4.5 years ago…. But here I am needing guidance decluttering. I don’t think I’ll have a problem getting rid of stuff, I just need the motivation to get started. And I think your statements about decluttering and bringing peace to your personal space, being equal to self-love is really what I needed to hear. You’re a wonderful human for sharing this information with all of us who feel stuck. Love and peace!

I held on to tax papers for 21 years! We are retired now on social security and don't have to file taxes any more. I only save the previous year's papers, the rest I burned. I have a friend who hadn't needed to file taxes for 7 years, she's disabled. I finally convinced her to shred over 30 years worth of paper! She's been shredding that junk for weeks now. She was told she needed to save everything for her whole life! Including receipts from Walmart. 🤦‍♀️ now she's having to go through the entire mess! What a lie, and what a mess!

@carnation_cat

I also question the need to shred. I would put all the papers in black trash bags and find a dumpster. Some dumpsters aren't even accessible, they are like big metal boxes with one door. If you know the pickup schedule, you can even put them in the dumpster right before the trash man comes. Those will go straight to the dump or they might even get incinerated like in my town. I seriously doubt that identity thieves are climbing into dumpsters these days. They are doing everything online, and your friend's information is readily available online if someone decides to target her. I think it's a very old-fashioned idea that throwing away a piece of paper with your name and address on it is a problem. Even a credit card bill doesn't have the credit card number. If you can convince her to free herself, those hours can be spent on much better things!
@carnation_cat
@carnation_cat 11 ай бұрын
I found this quote in an article that might help... "As a general rule, you should always shred unneeded documents that contain your Social Security number (SSN), signature, account numbers, phone number, birthdate, passwords, PINs, and full address." But I still see this as a very small risk, as long as you aren't just piling personal papers in the open on your street. The chances of an actual Identity thief choosing the right trash bag to steal seem so incredibly low. Some of those websites where you can look up people's information have way more on them than any old bill. I have a subscription to one of those sites that's only a dollar a month. So again, I really think most identity theft is being done online these days and all of your friend's information is out there like the rest of ours. I've seen elderly people who refuse to log into their bank accounts online because they are afraid someone will get to their information that way. I've had to tell them that it's already there whether they look at it or not!

I live on 5 acres. I use brown paper grocery bags for our trash ( excluding recycling and some random things) I burn that bag as soon as it’s full. Then I scrape up the remnants and put it with the cat litter waste in a plastic grocery store bag and put it in my neighbors bin (he offered that and his recycling) saves me on trash service cost and when it’s gone it’s gone 🤷‍♀️even burned a ratty sweatshirt I had as it wasn’t worth donating. I burned a ton of paper as I was so tired of all the paper. Cut my filing WAY down… very freeing!!

I hope you see this. Your life's purpose is not to be a trash receptacle or a dump. Storing trash in your home won't save the Earth. Get a grocery bag, fill it up and take it outside. Start there so you feel the win, and the newly open space won't give you anxiety (because it's small.) You can do this. Don't ask how it got this way, ask what you can do for five minutes that will make tomorrow better.

One of the things that just came to me about getting rid of things that we feel like we didn't complete or make, like we failed - is an idea that comes out of Project Management. Anytime you realize a project is not going to come to fruition, that it will not be completed, if you say we are ending the work/we are closing this project down, that project is considered closed and completed. Because you are no longer dragging it out, spending resources on it. This is huge ... we need to shift the idea that we failed. We didn't. We are successfully closing/ending the project. Which is still considered a success, because you recognized the need for the end, a termination, to end spending resources on it.

I’d like to add for anyone else like me who get rubbed the wrong way by the whole “you deserve” and “prioritize you” and “be selfish” stuff: I come at it from a different angle. It is a loving act towards your family and yourself to free the home you all share. They will be blessed. They might not realize it just yet, but that’s where you need to courageous enough to keep going against the tide until the tide turns. Trust the process. The tide will turn. Your family will see the benefits and bless you for your tough love approach. You are indeed in charge of the household and it is your prerogative to decide what stuff is a blessing and what is a burden in your home. It has never been so easy to have too much stuff. These declutterring skills are skills our grandmothers did not need. We need to learn a new way to think about our homes and fight that battle so we can free up our families for other more important things. ❤❤❤

We have been cleaning out things because of remodels. We had set up getting new shelving in our master closet. That forced my hubby to mostly clean out excessive clothes. Right now, we have been living in a somewhat disorganized way. July 4th weekend, our garbage disposal broke and the water damage meant that we have to replace our kitchen cabinets. It has been a long process, but has forced my husband and I to go through stuff. Between these 2 events, some family members and Goodwill have benefitted from our downsizing. (Cabinets are supposed to be installed the middle of October!) Watching your videos have been helpful in deciding how we are organizing these areas and other areas.

When I used to be so overrun with dishes because of a busy family or procrastination, I would run a dishpan full of hot, soapy water, then throw in a bunch to soak. While that soaked for 5-10 minutes, I’d set a timer and do some other chore, then go back and wash up the pan full which is much easier to wipe clean now that all the food is softened. A few swipes, and they are done, and in the drainer or a dish towel to drip dry. “Rinse and repeat.” Working in shifts will allow you to put the least amount of effort into it. I have also been known to put dishes and utensils away while still damp just to get it done and out of sight, and because I take lots of short cuts. Hopefully this is a helpful hint for someone out there.
