@user-ij9uk8tn8i Жыл бұрын
I'm a recovering weekend warrior!! I'm trying really hard to do more through the week, so I have less to do at the weekend. My new favourite cleaning "hack" is an app called Sweepy! You tell it the tasks you want to do, and how often you want to do them. So for example I have "make my bed" set for every day; and "wash the materess protecter" set to every 6months. When you complete a task, you tick it off, it makes a very satisfying woosh noise and turns green. Then turns amber, then red when it comes time to do that task again. What I like most about it, is that from what you've told it, it works out which task is most pressing. I've been following a modified fly lady system for a few years now - and it's helped me greatly. The daily and weekly routines helped me massively, but I struggled to keep track of where I was at with zone cleaning. But I feel like Sweepy is the missing piece to my cleaning puzzle. Now whenever I have some time to clean (it could be 2minutes, or 2hours) if I don't know where to start, I just open up Sweepy, and it do the thing it suggests (Or ignore it, and move to a task I feel like / have time for!). I've been using it for a couple of months now - and feel the most organised (cleaning-wise) I have in ages!! I'd highly recommend it.

Paying for help with cleaning can also be a great disability accommodation for ADHD or any condition that affects executive function or physical mobility/energy. When so much of life is on hard mode, it makes sense to accept help with the things we can so we have more juice leftover for everything else! : - )

P.S. I used to hate cleaning so much that the thought of paying someone else to do such a supposedly "awful" task seemed icky to me. But someone I know with multiple degrees and a prestigious career told me she was thinking of cleaning for money when she retired because she LIKES it and wanted something to keep busy and make a little extra! Mind blown! ; - D I also have a friend who finds cleaning satisfying who supported her young kids while she was in college by cleaning houses because it was flexible and paid better than other jobs that don't require a degree. You never know if paying someone to do what you find difficult might just be an important blessing in their life!

I'm a Flybaby. Been doing Flylady's system (zone cleaning) since 2000 and have never looked back. Now that I no longer work outside of the home, I did switch to a Laundry Day vs. a load every day. I've found that decluttering and Flylady's zones and daily routines work best for me.

I don't think FlyLady fits in just one category. She has daily stuff which is more of a flit around cleaning what needs to be (hot spots), in some ways she has tasks by assigning each day a task, and then the zones are monthly for the deep cleaning. I personally don't like the FlyLady system because it about killed me when I had 5 little kids. I felt like all I did was clean and change diapers. Now the idea of doing her system is still overwhelming. I have about 15 minutes then I have to rest for 2 to 3 hours. If kids didn't do the dishes, then I do the dishes in that time. In my second 15 minutes, I get to work on whatever "weekly task" I have up next. If I'm lucky I get a 3rd 15 minutes to work in a zone decluttering or deep cleaning.

Ooh I have to look into this "clean mama" more, if my squirrel syndromes don't make me instantly forget once I click off this comment (likely 😩) because I used to also do big whole house cleans, decluttering and moving all my furniture around etc over a weekend every few months when I'd just get so hyperfocused and motivated (either out of boredom or purely sick of its state before the weekend overhaul lol!) But after having my kiddo and running my business at home etc it's not working at all, I try to start and get derailed way too quickly either by my own lack of focus or by my kiddo, or whatever random life thing that comes up and then it gets completely dropped for too long until repeat yikes lol!

Cas, Loved this video. I have a suggestion for you. Try Norwex cleaning cloths, along with their polishing cloth. It cleans as a wet dust cloth as well as the micro fiber cloth for windows, mirrors and I’m sure it would work for glass shower doors. I don’t have glass shower doors so I can’t say for sure. This is interesting. I’ve just had a new shower put in and I’ve been squeegeeing every time but I’d love a quicker solution. Do you use a microfibre cloth or just an ordinary towel?
@carlygreen2293 Жыл бұрын
Yes! I bought the 30 pack of microfibers from Walmart's automotive dept. so I could keep in the bathroom for this particular reason and it is THE BEST! They soak up water sooo good. Great for when my kids treat the tub like the waterpark, too! Then I just hang it over my faucet to dry when I'm all done. We keep a small fan that sits on the counter because our ceiling fan doesnt work, and point it directly into the shower and it helps dry all my towels and keeps the mildew smell out. Highly recommend the fan even if your vent one works. It goes into the bottom linen cabinet when it's dry. Also, I keep all my dirty microfibers in a sack in laundry room until I have load of them. As they don't need much soap to wash, and you're not supposed to use heat at all on them so it usually takes 2-3 hours in the dryer with no heat.
@yvonnelanese-coppola4999 Жыл бұрын
A squeegee takes the same amount of time as a towel. I don’t have a glass shower door, but I do wipe down my shower walls after I shower. I squeegee, my husband uses a microfiber towel.

I use my own checklist. It doesn’t matter what day, what time, etc. So long as everything on the list is done once a week (minimum). This way, I clean whenever I have time, and the list keeps me focused and tracks the to do’s for me. If I can’t get something done done one week, that’s the task I’ll start with the next week. And yes, I include monthly and biweekly tasks in my weekly list. I just check them off on my future week lists whenever they’re completed. Which makes me feel accomplished when I start a new week that has several items already checked off as completed. 😊

I don't really have a dedicated cleaning routine. I'm tend to clean what needs attention on a daily basis. But I love the Clean Mama routine for deep cleaning purposes. I deep cleaned all 3 bathrooms in my house yesterday. Today, the dog hair was driving me crazy so I decided to combine dusting and vacuuming into 1 day. While I had the window washing stuff out (for mirrors), my daughter cleaned the windows in our kitchen that seem to get tracked up most by the pooch. I do laundry on a daily basis, and dishes (my nemesis) tend to get washed every other day. I've followed the Fly Lady system in the past, as well as Clean Mama. Both are great for helping me to stay on task and keep a clean home with husband, kids and dog. I've also been known to listen to the Organize 365 podcast to help keep me focused on cleaning & organizing, as well. Loved your RainX suggestion for shower glass. I would HIGHLY recommend investing in a battery operated backup sump pump, in addition to your generator. The battery backup will give you a little breathing room to get the generator up and running and will help to reduce the amount of water that overflows the pit. However- from experience- make sure the battery is good by checking monthly like they say because otherwise you may be left with no power, a dead battery backup, AND a freaking generator that won't start. LOVE your videos, keep them coming :)

One of the biggest game changers for me was a 15 minute tidy everyday. Set a timer for 15 minutes and put things away, take dirty dishes into the kitchen, grab laundry from the bathroom floor and toss it into the hamper, etc. it’s like the grown up version of the big comfy couch ten second tidy 😂 having a timer set makes it really easy to find motivation to get started because for my ADHD brain, 15 minutes feels like so much less than half an hour. Hi, there’s actually an app that will do that for you. We have QR code on the fridge for our wifi pass code. Now I don’t get bothered every time I need to recall the password. Look for qr app. You than add a link to a website or just add wifi password etc. Amazon also sells a QR code for organizing bins. You place the sticker on the bin and than when you scan the QR code the images of contents of the bin pop up. ❤ it’s $10 I believe.

Great ideas as always but I tend to mix and match depending on what’s going on. Omg the flooding, I’m not surprised you’ve ptsd, I’d be the same. You will definitely have to get someone out to get advice on what can be done. Have a great week of sunshine. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏👍💪🙏💐🦮

Oh my, your new home experience is exactly as ours has been. We did plenty of research, but never counted on having to replace so much in a short period of time. Fingers crossed we are at the end, we do love the house and we are enjoying the beauty, but for sure PTSD.(the other night I heard the sprinkler go off at an odd time, I assumed a water main break. I run around, hubby assures me he changed the sprinkler. And yes hurricane hit here within 3 weeks of move in, I so get it)

Task master is my routine😊. I like to have weekend free. Sometimes, on Saturdays, I do things I haven't done earlier, but I try to do it quickly. I want to be lazy and have nice things, too😂😘.

After your experience with the flooding, do you plan on contacting an engineer to see if they can build something to keep the water away from the house the next time it floods?
@Mushkiepotamus Жыл бұрын
You need French drain around the home and major landscaping drainage. Have you contacted a lawyer- IF this wasn’t disclosed to you when you purchased the house- you have a case- this isn’t the first time the flooding occurred.

Angela Brown’s channel has THE BEST videos on cleaning blinds and cleaning baseboards. She has lessons for 1st time, deep clean and then maintenance cleans- so you don’t have to do deep clean.
@Mushkiepotamus Жыл бұрын
Get a TineCo vacuum mop- you mop and vacuum at the same time. Say you spill a bowl of milk and cereal- just pull out the Tineco and it’s vacuums and cleans it all up and the same time. The Tineco will tell you when the brush roller needs cleaning and when the clean water tank is empty and when then dirty water tank is full. It works on all types of floors just not carpet. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS so you can maintain the machine to last the longest. I have the top model 7S Pro- it cleans right up to the baseboards on each side of the roller. it has quick 3 minute self cleaning cycle for the roller and tubes and a big 6 minute self cleaning cycle. It’s cordless and lasts about 45 minutes per charge. It gives you a visible ring that changes colors to let you know where the unseen dirt is and will automatically increase cleaning power. You still have to empty clean the dirty tank. I also extra clean the roller and roller cover- I have dogs.

I also have one of these and it is absolutely amazing. Why do your floors twice when you can just do it once. Also so much cleaner. With a mop you are just moving the dirty mop around and it spins so fast its so much more than one pass over with a mop. The best invention ever.@@Mushkiepotamus

Thanks for the back yard update. There has to be some recourse for you. About the cleaning routine, yes, I have one, certain days I do specific tasks… not in the same order as you, but it works for me.

I love using Norwex. If you don’t use chemicals, things stay cleaner longer and don’t take as much effort to clean, especially glass. Though the rainex hack is tempting 😃 Great video as always 👏🏻😄

The black dress with polka dots is so cute. Your rain story reminded me of the house I grew up in. It was just on a single lot in town, but every time it rained we had a lake in the backyard and the basement. If it looked like a lot of rain in the forecast, we all trooped down to the basement to pick up anything that was on the floor. My parents tried various solutions. I remember it was ultimately a sump pump in combination with something else. It looked kind of like "gutters" on the floor turned on their sides and sealed to the wall and floor. It finally did the trick, but those are the only details I remember about it.

While your flooding situation isn't funny (it is stressful) - you have such great humor about it. Thanks for always making something positive out of a negative. You Rock! I am a "weekend warrior" currently. But that is because I work. But when I retire - God Willing - I think I would try your Clean Mama suggestion. Thanks for always giving us great tips. And you have such a gorgeous home. I hope you get to enjoy it without worry. I do not use a squigy in the shower. I use a microfiber clothe and wipe the shower down. When I remodeled I chose not to do glass (because I'm lazy too!) and went with a shower curtain. Less classy. But less hassle. Your shower scene was AWESOME!

I used to do daily jobs such as you did in your video when my kids were little and I was home all the time. I had different daily jobs, and then ended the day with a kitchen clean up, house tidy etc. I also found that I needed monthly, seasonal and yearly jobs as well, just to stay on top of things. It was so handy to have a 'checklist' of sorts to go by, to remind me of what needed to be done. Now that I'm older, work every day, I pretty much just clean up only what shows as untidy. My house is too big with just me and my husband. One of these days I will declutter my house to a smaller one.

Cas, your video made my day. So fun! I have my own tip, really good and perfectly fitting shoes. My ”cleaning shoes” are the most expensive shoes I have. I drink some coffee, put them on and the old lady becomes a decluttering warrior. Oh well, for a while atleast.

I'm most active early mornings when it comes to cleaning. I just do what I feel motivated to do, and, of course, what needs to be done immediately. If i dont start before a certain time, you can hang it up! On another note, it's sad you all had to fight nature all night. I hope something changes so you won't have these issues in the future. 💕 Thanks for the tips and the extra push of motivation!!

Hey, Cas, love your channel and all your helps. When we moved into our house a few months ago my husband and his contractor friends recommended something to practice for our glass shower doors. After every shower leave the glass door open instead of closing until the door dries. Leaving it open causes the door to dry faster and leaves no water spots. With your rainx and leaving the door open, you rarely have to wipe it down.

Hi Cas! Glad to hear your water is going away in your backyard. I'm really enjoying your videos on your beautiful new home and how you're making it your own! Looking forward to all the tips you will be sharing with us! I've tried cleaning the entire house on Saturdays. It truly is EXHAUSTING! I'm going to try the lists you have where you do certain things on certain days. And compare them. I've been trying not to go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink and to clean for 15 minutes each night. I'm still a work in progress. 😊

Task cleaning is the easiest to follow for us. Been doing decluttering daily for five minutes at a time in a room. Cleaning one area in a room for a few days until it is totally cleaned too. It keeps me motivated.

Thanks for the laugh before bed. Learned today that turning off the bathroom light and letting the mirror cool is the hack I needed. I tried microfiber cloths and every mix or bought spray. Turns out the heat from cleaning and organizing caused the streaks from my sprays drying too quickly. A free lesson learned.

I feel your pain, Cas. I had the same thing happen during the great floods of 2021 in BC. Two inches of water in the basement... my husband was away working... yep, definitely PTSD. 😣 Every time it sprinkled, I panicked. For months. The good thing is you will get through it. We put in a sump pump (outside of all places) and it hasn't rained as hard since! I would say I laugh in the face of rain but I really don't want to tempt fate!

So glad I am not the only one who has to change her cleaning routine because she moved. Also, glad your house survived the flood of 2023. I, too, had PTSD after hurricane Harvey because the next year at the same time of year we had flooding. Every time it rains, man.

Cass, You can squeegee every time you finish in shower. It’s easier than u think. Before you get out of the shower, grab the squeegee that you have hanging in the shower. While standing squeegee across the glass. Then repeat for the lower part of the glass. Hang your squeegee back up inside the shower. This works on tiles too.

Thank you, you are so entertaining and down-to-earth! I have ADHD as well, so I can totally relate to getting side-tracked for hours and not finishing what I actually set out to do. I've tried the Week-End Warrior method with very little success. Lately I've tried Cleaning Zones with underwhelming results, so now I'm going to try the Task Method. With my hyper-focusing tendencies, this just might work! Your new house looks lovely.

Maybe you can install a drywall that will direct the water into a well, away from the house. We had to do that and it’s kept our basement dry. But we don’t live near a river or have as much property as you. It’s something to look into.

I’m usually a task a day person, but I do think zones work great for helping to focus on decluttering. I can’t believe all you have already done to the new house and I hope it works out for the flooding issue. Thank you for being so open and honest about it. It is so stressful to go through those issues with a new house after all the moving and big changes you have already gone through! We moved a few months before you into a rental and we still don’t have the curtains up in or all the living room boxes unpacked! 😂
