My husband passed away recently. I am moving from our home of 44 years. It is a huge endeavor. I am sorting and purging as I pack. I think my future self is going to thank me for this method of packing. I will say, Packing and moving is no joke and I’m getting tire.

I went through a similar thing when my husband passed away a few years ago. It was painful to get rid of some things, but in retrospect, I have a perspective on things. Whenever I have a friend complain that they just can’t let their things go… I just shake my head. When you have to let things go, and there’s so much pain involved, because of a loss of a loved one… I wish you all the best. I wish you peace. Eight years later and I still cry. I miss him so much

My husband passes away at 41 in our home in December 2023. Today actually would’ve been our 20th anniversary. 😢 Everyone important in my life said not to make any big decisions for at least a year, which I’ve stuck to, but next year hopefully I’ll also be doing some purging & packing to move. Big hugs to anyone in a similar situation!!

Pro tip from someone with chronic illness: say the words "I'd like it noted that I asked for this test and you said no" and most doctors will then order the test for you. Advocating for yourself is so hard. So it helps to have your words ready beforehand. This whole video was GREAT!!

I love this tip because I feel like I am constantly having to advocate for myself with my doctor. Advocating for yourself is great but when you feel like you always have to do it its irritating. I don't feel like I'm taken seriously half the time because my doctor questions my concerns almost every appointment and its very irritating. Most doctors i've had in the past, who were wonderful, either relocated or retired and they would hear my concerns and knew how to help me without asking why or asking me what I think I have etc.

Okay, I watched this video yesterday and took a bunch of notes. I recently realized that I have combination ADHD and just started taking a non-stimulant medicine for it. I'm still getting used to the medicine, but I do notice that I can focus better and I have more energy. By the time I got off work yesterday, I was so ready to tackle my "doom room". I couldn't start on it until after my 2.5 year old went to bed around 7:30, though. I found my audio book, picked my 3 things I wanted to get done, set my timer for 60 minutes and went to work. I had to pause my timer a couple of times when I had to take care of something outside of the room and then forgot to turn it back on when I got back to work. I completed my 3 things and the space looks way better than it did before I started. It's far from done, but I am eager to get back to it tonight. Thank you so much for your helpful and informative videos!

My husband and I recently moved into our new house, just 1 week after my C-section. We also have a 2 year old boy😅. What I did that was helpful was, to take pictures of the house before we moved. I was therefore able to organize everything, in my mind, even the kitchen cabinets before we actually moved. (Having a written plan helps a lot). When we moved we just put everything we're they belong, just as I had planned. So moving wasn't so stressful. (I thought this might be helpful ) Love your channel. So MUCH better! I heard from a decluttering guru years ago that so often we have our garages stuffed with clutter, while our vehicles -- which are our second most expensive things we own, after our house -- sit outside, unprotected and exposed to the elements! So, timer set for an hour! Work it, work it! I haven’t cleaned or straightened my bedroom closet (BIG) for over two years. Mind you I have excuses. 48 minutes in, I’m exhausted, sweating, and my back is killing me!! So, I’m resting, but…..back to my excuses, herniated discs in my back due to an injury, not able to move by myself. Three hospital stays, not the back. Two surgeries, no help at home. Well, I’m here to tell you that when I get up, I’m going to vacuum that closet! 4 bags of garbage taken out, 3 boxes in the car ready to donate, and, one 80 year old lady very proud of herself!! Thanks for telling me I’m worth a clean home! Tomorrow, dresser drawers!! I’m on a roll!!

Someone recommended you in the comments of a How to ADHD video, and I’m so grateful I saw it. This is so helpful! Thank you! My biggest block is my kitchen, specifically dishes. Storage is second. I have a small galley style apartment kitchen with almost no counter space and no pantry. I’m also need a visual type storage solution because if I don’t see it I don’t have it. Up until a month ago, my “pantry” was actually the coat closet in the living room, which does more harm than good for me. Not only could I not see it, it was a hassle to get what I needed. I finally had the spoons to clean out the closet, and ended up throwing out over $150 worth of expired food. I was so mad at myself. I decided to get rid of my dining room table and put a tiered utility shelf in its place. It made my life a lot easier, and I’m actually using stuff now. If only I could figure out the dishes 😂

This is why I refuse to take on the label of hypochondria. It took 6yrs to get a doctor to even accept that I wasn't making it up and I got my first diagnosis. Since then I definitely still obsess over every symptom, because I learned through experience that I have to find the right ones to tell the doctor using the right terminology for them to sift through all their knowledge and find a match. Also, I had recurring strep as a child and it turned out the cat was a carrier! So if it comes back get your pets tested, they can be treated for it and it's better than the shots you'd have to get if it keeps coming back.

Please don’t blame yourself for not fighting hard enough for decent care. With a good doctor , you wouldn’t have had to! Honestly, strep tests are pretty matter of course for a really bad sore throat.Three visits before you even got a test is not a sign of a caring or thorough physician. Hope you heal up completely and quickly. We all love you and want the very best for you. ❤️💕

Home from work today, going to rotate from room to room every hour and see how much I can get done (remaining in denial about the garage!) Definitely keep up on all of those health checks and advocate for yourself, changing doctors if need be! For TWELVE YEARS I had pains that I described as feeling exactly like a gall bladder attack (gall bladder was already removed) and doctors kept telling me it was female problems. Until I had a hysterectomy and still had the pain. My gynecologist listened and sent me for an MRI of ALL my organs- stones in the bile ducts of my liver! Sepsis and I nearly died because dozens of doctors wouldn’t look beyond “female problems”.

Hi Cas, watching this video really motivated me. I related so much. Thank you! I also wanted to share a small tip/hack . You may already know this. Whenever I move; I take photos of my furniture layout/ bookshelves/ even kitchen cabinet and drawers. Than I share these photos with who ever is helping me get settled into a space. Especially with the kitchen. Many times we do it ourselves and get fatigued by making the decisions, where are these wine glasses going now? Etc. Well I did this with three friends and each one got a cabinet and they placed all the stuff like the photo. This is also great for books! And I’m sure kids could do It! I would also do this for closets. Like towels. Etc. you get the idea. I learned this trick when I used to open flagship department stores in the US. I got so tired of explaining to folks about space planning etc. I just started sharing photos of what I had done at a previous store. Hope this helps someone! Also it’s a good tip just to keep things tidy. My mother has dementia so I printed the pictures and added them inside kitchen cabinets.

My stepson has ADHD, depression, and mobility issues. His bedroom is a disaster, and he doesn’t know how or where to start. I happen to be a (cozy) minimalist, who believes in taking care of little things before they become big things. He’s much more amenable to that concept than his dad (that’s a whole other clutter battle). Since there is no room outside his bedroom (it’s a tiny hallway with a stairwell), my usual method of decluttering (pulling out only what I want/need, and getting rid of what’s left; thank you Joshua Becker), won’t work. We’re just going to start clearing off the bed, and work our way around the room. He’ll do the choosing, I’ll do the heavy lifting. Starting with 15 min increments should help cut down on decluttering fatigue. Wish us luck.

Hang in there. I remember when I used to think a house fire was the simplest solution. I am still sometimes tempted by the thought of a small skip!. 2 tips I recently heard. Declutter for the life you have now. The person you are now. And, instead of thinking ' what if I get rid of this?' think, what if I keep this? Where will it be kept, and what will its purpose be?' Sometimes it's easier to let it go than answer those questions!

Due to the location she sent me to get an MRI or CT? I get them mixed up, I couldn't get the test until the next morning. After, I got home from my test, my Dr called and said that I "have acute appendicitis!" She sent me to the ER, and told me to be prepared to be admitted because my surgery will be in the afternoon. Whew! This saved me the experience of the pain getting extreme, or of having my appendix rupturing. It was a good lesson in "listening to my body." I feel like I am bothering my doctor sometimes too. She is very nice about it though. I am able to message her on her portal too. I get concerned that I message her too much sometimes. Yes! Mammogram & Colonoscopy!

I'm so glad I found your channel. You motivate me so much and my house is getting more organized every day because of it. Both my daughters moved out within a month of each other and my one daughter was a packrat and very sloppy. I never thought I'd get my house back the way it was before children but lo and behold, it's looking terrific. Thank you for all the wonderful advice, it's working! My basement is the next room I'm tackling using your one hour advice.

I have a method of start at the door with a trash bag, donate box, and a box for stuff that goes in another room. Start by picking up the first thing you come to, and work your way through the room. When you walk out to take a break or get a new box, etc. You come back to see a clean space right at the door. It's motivating. If you just walk around grabbing trash or something else, you come back and there's is still a room full of clutter. It gets harder to keep motivated when you don't see results.

I found you on your podcast and was motivated to start decluttering my 2800 sq ft house. I had to put many things I would have wanted to do these last 7 years on hold because I had my hands full already being full time caregiver for my elderly daddy who suffers from Alzheimer’s & strokes. Daddy now lives in an Alzheimer’s unit close to me so after recuperating for 4 weeks due to complete exhaustion and strep throat, I can finally tackle my own projects. I had your podcasts going in the background cheering me on for the last 4 days now. I am amazed how good it feels to fill my trunk w donations. I called a men’s shelter today and asked if they needed winter coats. He said absolutely . Thank you Cass for your encouragement and even your tough love. I am grateful 🙂 5:46

This was so helpful. For me it's knowing something will take a long time. Knowing it's okay to accomplish 3 things, AND it doesn't have to be perfect, AND zoning has inspired me to tackle my office 1 hour at a time. Thanks! So glad you insisted on the strep test 💪 Something that may make it easier in the future: Each visit costs insurance money and possibly an additional co- pay. That's what helps me: unnecessary expenses - and extra time, lol!

@@shelleykapp9637 I suppose we just need to switch the tv, or some special music on, and see how much we can get done in short spurts? It is also hard on my own as I can not lift heavy things, so it gets so frustrating. If I have to get someone to help it costs me money, which I do not have to spare. But when I have cleared somewhere, it does make me feel so much better. I wish you luck shelleykapp9637 in your clearing and decluttering. xxx

Thankfully my house is pretty decluttered and minimal (thanks to Cass and Dawn and Dana) so I could keep up with laundry, dishes and simple meals with rest periods in between. I got a sense of what chronic fatigue would be like and it’s no joke. Having less stuff to deal sure helped.

Thank you for giving this message to your followers, to advocate for yourself in the doctors office. Years back, I had many symptoms that, in addition to knowing I had a bicuspid aortic valve, made it very clear that I most likely had BAVD which had caused an ascending aortic aneurysm. I had all the classic symptoms. The first hospital sent me home, and I was treated like a moron. The second hospital. (a heart hospital!) Try to do the same, until I implied that it’s an awful lot of *liability* to send someone home, without at least checking, when that patient could die on their kitchen floor of a dissection… then the hospital staff got a little nervous. They finally gave me a scan, and it turned out I was 100% correct. It also later turned out that I was pregnant. My child and I could both have died if I hadn’t followed my gut and stood up for myself. Ever since then, I ignore doctors when they dismiss my symptoms. Fire that doctor, and get a new one! I fire doctors all the time. My doctor doesn’t have to agree with me, they just have to listen, and treat me with respect, even if they think I’m being silly.

I am so excited to see wash time you post a new video!! You give me so much encouragement and motivation to do things!! Today I’m going to work in my kitchen. I have so many things that I do not use so the things I do use doesn’t have a home. The stuff I use get moved from place to place so I can never find it when I need it!! It’s so frustrating and my kitchen looks so cluttered all the time. It’s a really small space anyway and the more I have the worse it looks. My bedroom is very cluttered as well so that will be my next place to work. I know you said bedrooms are a huge priority but I kinda started the kitchen last night so I am going to continue today. Thank you for all you do for us women who just need an extra boost and sometimes a gentle kick in the butt to get going!! ❤️😀

After 15 years of joint pain and doctors not being able to find anything in blood tests or on x-rays and sending me home, I finally saw a doctor who listened to me. We know what it is now and we can look for treatment options. But it won't give me back those 15 years of being in pain and some of the joints will never get better cause they are damaged. But at least I now know I wasn't crazy and the pain is real. I have a week off now and I can't wait to try these steps in my craftroom and office. The rest of the house is already done due to your videos, motivation, tips and the 30 day bootcamp.
