Hello friends! I truly enjoyed the process of organizing my grandmother’s photos! I hope you enjoyed the peak into my childhood and family photos as well. I rocked that curled under bang in the ‘90’s! 😉 I forgot to mention in the video, but this process took me several months, it’s a lot to tackle- so don’t feel badly if your own process is drawn out too. ☺️ Thank you for watching! 💕💕

Rachel, I purposely did not watch several of your videos, so I can watch all together. I am 51 years old, work full time, and have a 1 year old granddaughter living with us. Plus, everything going on in the world, my anxiety is on high. So having several of your videos to watch at once, was a definite stress releaser. Thank you!

There are many reasons why I watch your channel. I find you voice soothing (and, who among us doesn't need that NOW), I love your vintage style, I love that you talk about decorating as a way to care for your family. But, most Al all, I am moved by the fact that your creativity is always somehow a labor of love. Thank you. Your channel IS a respite. I'm so grateful G d made you. When I retired I went thru all my photos. Before digital days we used to get duplicates of developed photos. I loved this video. My 80 year old Grandad has always kept photos from throughout his life and organised them into photo albums. This is something I have carried on as I make copies of his photos to curate an album for me to keep and pass on to my children. It’s so important to me to have images from years gone by and put faces to names of family members.

Rachel, this was so timely. I’ve been going through sentimental items and I have it down to two boxes for each member of the family. We just bought bookshelves for our living room so I decided to display some of the photo albums and some of my treasured books and I love it. Having them accessible will help me to enjoy them more. My summer project is tackling both physical and digital photos and figuring out how best to organize them. These tips are great! Thank you!

Hi Rachel! You’re so sweet to ask how everyone is doing. We have been staying out since mid-March in our CT home and doing just fine. Adjusting to a different way of living the best we can and thanking God everyday. I’m lucky enough to work from home for now and happy to be getting some projects done around the house while helping kids with school work and a husband who gets easily distracted. 🙃 Continue to be safe and your videos are, as always, awesome. Give that Gram of yours an extra hug....mine was my best friend and I miss her dearly but so happy that I had her in my life until she was 93. Many blessings to you and your fam. ~Kelli

You’re so sweet to do this for your grandma. So much thought and care were put into this project! Before we moved 15 years ago, I sorted all our photos chronologically and put them in photo boxes. Plus we had quite a few albums. At some point I’ll have to go through everything again, but as I listened to you talking about your grandfather’s passing and allowing time before you could tackle your project, I realized I’m not ready to go through our photos, even though it’s been 6 years since my husband died. It’s funny how some things were so easy to let go of, but others I still can’t deal with. I think some of that is that he died when I was just 53. He battled cancer for 8 years and when the Lord finally took him home, I was exhausted from caregiving. (I didn’t mean to share all that, but I won’t erase it as it might help someone else.) This has been such a difficult time for our country. As if the virus weren’t enough, now we have to deal with these other issues. We had looting and other mischief in our city of 201,000 people and it breaks my heart. I live in the suburbs and not much happened here, but I still feel horrible for store owners who were days from re-opening and now their stores are empty due to looting. I’ve never been afraid living in our small town, but I have been fearful over the past week. I guess it’s good that I don’t have to go out much, even though I long to get out and do something. I’m watching the number of new diagnoses and if they stay relatively stable, I’ll try to see my grandkids, outside and me wearing a mask. My granddaughter is learning to ride a two wheeler and my grandson gets on the tricycle. I’ve missed it all. I saw a bit in our last FaceTime chat, which was nice. I so appreciate your channel. You are calm, quiet, and encouraging. The world needs more people like you. Most of all, it needs Jesus. God bless.

I used to scrapbook a lot too! I worked with a woman who sold Creative Memories scrapbooks and supplies. She would host fun workshops in her home. I haven't done it much lately, but I did do the first 2 years of Katie's life. I helped my mom organize the family photos many years ago. It was always helpful when the date was printed on the back of the picture, either by the photo company or a person. I print a lot of photos off Shutterfly and that's one of my favorite things about their site. I really enjoyed seeing a peek into your scrapbooks!

Thanks for the motivation! It's a project I'm sure most of us have been meaning to tackle for awhile (years!). I recently saw another video about photo organization (was it Minimal Mom?), and they spoke about letting the album be the guide to how many photos to keep. I thought that was brilliant- only keep as many as an album can hold... though I suppose that could just lead to multiple albums! Maybe I'll start tomorrow. ;)
@SweetAndSimpleHome
@SweetAndSimpleHome 4 жыл бұрын
That is a nice approach! I know when I had two 100 page albums, that helped me decide how many pages of each grandchild and whatnot I could include. I know with photos, it’s so overwhelming to tackle a project because there’s so many options for what to do with your photos. My mom told me when I started this project that anything I did was better than the nothing that was now happening. ☺️

@@SweetAndSimpleHome Yes! Totally agree - if photos aren't being enjoyed and are just sitting in a jumbled disorganized mess in a box (like most of mine currently are!), some kind of organization is better than nothing! :)

Another timely video. I’ve done many big photo projects over the years for my mother in law And mother included if thousands of slides to be digitized. But the process is worthwhile even if it is tedious. Really unorganized photos are best placed in categories rather than chronologically. You did a great job just doing a highlights album. Most people have way too many photos to enjoy. My sister and I made highlight albums for each set of grandchildren for my mother-so much better than disorganized bins. As my in-laws lives faded we would watch the dvd of all their slides and relive their remarkable lives which made all my hard work pay off.

I started organizing my mom and dad’s letters and planned to progress to the photos but I messed up my foot and have a hairline fracture and sprained ankle. I am on the first floor and all the photos are on the second floor, so it will have to wait for a few more weeks. Nice system.

Great video. I don't have many photos left as I placed them all on discs. It makes it much easier for me. I still have several old ones. It was very sweet of you to organize your grandmothers pics for her. I know she appreciates it greatly. I'm glad you and your family are safe. It is very uncertain days and we just must cling to Jesus and our faith. So many people don't know him. The amount of evil in this world is alarming. We all need Jesus. Praying for you and your family sweet Rachel. Keep doing what you are doing. ❤️❤️

These are very difficult days we are walking through-- I pray daily for our country and all the people who are so hurt by all this. I felt physically ill after seeing a clip off of twitter with all the violence. I don't have it in me to understand that level of hatred for another Image Bearer of God. We pray, we hope, we know that Christ has defeated sin and death and we have victory in Him! :) Thank you for praying for us-- being in ministry/education right now is a very challenging place to be. We need all the prayers we can get!

I had a whole closet full before we moved! I got rid of a lot but I still enjoy paper crafting. I just don’t scrapbook much at all anymore. 🙃 Thank you for watching! 💕

Photo projects can feel super overwhelming so I completely understand that! ☺️ This did take me months to finish because of that, so I hope you can feel encouraged. Getting started is the hardest part. Thank you so much for watching! 💕

Would you be willing to talk about how to organize digitally? I have scanned in most all of our family’s photos, though some still need to be cropped apart. I go back and forth on how to store them. By topic, by person, or by year and folders within each year for the event? I have 50 year’s worth of stuff plus our own childhoods to figure out how to keep. Most all has been scanned to preserve it from further deterioration.

My approach for my own family with digital photos has been to have one folder of photos per year, though I'd love to go into each year and designate folders for special events where I took a ton of photos like 2015 birthdays or 2017 Disney trip kind of thing. I've yet to do that. :) For decades worth of photos, I find it more helpful to organize by the decade. When you have big amounts of photos, it's good to have bigger categories and then as you can, break down the categories as it works for you and your purposes. If you'd like a folder of just one of each of the kids, you can create those once you've put all the photos into the decade (or year groupings) and pull them out easily since you know which years or decades they were alive and whatnot. I love being able to make those smaller categories after I have the big categories finished. I hope that was helpful and not too all over the place to understand. :)

I want to downsize my photos. There’s nobody to pass them to in my ever smaller family so I decided to take pictures of special/important photos (digitize) and then shred the physical photos. It’s a tough decision but necessary.

You are wise to digitize and share! My grandma wants me to share the historical family photos too. I think you made a good decision even though it was tough. 💕💕

whenever i look at old photos, i am sad. i can't touch them. i dont look at them. so they occupy space and become clutter. how can i declutter if i do not dare to look at them? u see my delima?

I'm sorry for your sadness. My recommendation is to wait for the day you no longer feel sad. If you're able to put them all in a large tote all together, at least they are all in the same place and tucked away. If you have someone in your life who can walk through the sadness with you, it may make it easier to not approach the photos alone. It's okay to set projects aside for a better time.

@@SweetAndSimpleHome thank you i agree. i set it aside for 6 months alrrady. and i could not stand it no more. since it makes me sad, i dont look at it anyways. its wasting space. but after struggle, i did knock off 1 album! i will do it step by step little by little. im envious that u have so manny happy memories.

So you know absolutely nothing about preserving photographs for the long term, or you never would have chosen ‘Magnetic” albums which will destroy photographs over time and are one of the most difficult albums to remove them from when they get old.
