See video garden calendar at organotill.org. Filmed 4/17/11. Shows part 1 of the mycorrhizal fungi growing process to make inoculant for next year's garden plants. This is one of many videos that follows the gardening season chronologically in Kansas City and similar areas. We hope that people can follow along and work in their own gardens at organotill.org. Organotill.org features organic no-till methods used at Niles Home for Children's Garden, Tracy Garden & elsewhere.

I'm glad you have a place to live. The problem is that human activity is accelerating any warming that might have been happening to the extreme. We're messing with our life support system like a bunch of kindergarteners.

Mycorrhizal fungi can't be "made". They grow and it takes all summer for that to happen on the roots of some plant. We are using bahia grass. Maybe you are making compost tea. You can grow a lot of bacteria and other fungi in two days.

Yes you need the fruit/ mushroom and spore print then put in a substrate. People confuse fungi. Only certain mushrooms create mycorrhizal.

@@Jason_g_kennedy you mean only certain fungi fruit mushrooms, you can culture mycorrhizal fungi, ever seen mushrooms at the shops ha ha, you dont need the spores, you can culture with mycelium...

Chris - Taxes might help but the only thing that MIGHT save us is for the minds and hearts of people to shift away from fear and the selfishness that goes with it and become more caring of others, all species and the Earth. Once that happens we might be able to help ourselves.

Hello 1234. Either you know a lot more about fungi than i do with your comment about blending bean plants or you don't realize that mycorrhizal fungi are different kind of plant than the ones that are in the nodules of the bean plant roots. There might be mycorrhizal fungi on the roots of the beans but i doubt that they would winter over to inoculate other plants in the spring.

Is this method much preferred to just buying the spray? I'm interested in introducing some of this fungi into my bonsai trees, and am looking for the best method. I've raised my trees 100% from stuff around the house/recycled stuff/etc, so I'd like to keep it as organic as possible but it's not something I'm stuck on. Thanks for any responses!

Dude I live in Canada. And I would not live here if it was not for global warming. Where I live was covered by glaciers at one time. But now the glaciers are gone plants and trees can grow. We have been warming since the last ICE AGE donks. Ya were getting warmer no doubt.

The "h'' is silent in Bahia Grass. It is a Portuguese word. It is pronounced ba-ee-ya. Just like the h is silent in hour glass and vehicle and honor.

@organotill

As i understand it the mycorrhizal fungi grow into plant roots and are dependent on them. They do not grow on other substrates. There are other species of fungi that grow on all sorts of media but not mycorrhizal fungi.
@greens4507

yea, but in theory i think it could be done since they get sugars from the plant , mimic the food source and produce an liquid culture or agar on a petri dish..

greens4507 What is your theory? How do you think they propagate?
@greens4507

through spores and mycelium, but gets carbs from plants. So if one would try to present carbs in a acceptable form in a controlled environment just maybe one would see growth without plants symbiosis. I am just looking for a method of propagating more inoculum easier :).

Wasting a lot of money on doing something that you can do for free. Just harvest some fungi from existing bean plants, mix it with water in a blender, add to fresh plant cuttings, place in a cardboard box and in a cool dark place and you'll have more fungi, then let dry out and make into a powder. You can then place powder in water to inoculate seeds

Hey I Like your video, I'm in college writing a paper on mycoremediation. I am doing an experiment with soil contaminated with hydrocarbons, and I want to try and reduce the amount of hydrocarbons with mycelium. I am the stage that I need to choose a fungi that I can spread on the contaminated soil. Just wondering if you have any suggestions on how to go about doing this and obtain the fungi. Luke

We grow Mycorrizae in 2 days. Will post a vid of how its done soon. it's about 20x easier than the eay you are doing it here and the Myco comes out in pucks that you just drop into the base of a plant when transplanting. Here is a tip. powdered Oatmeal, Bat Guano, moisture and a tiny pinch of powdered Mychorizzae if combined in the correct environment will breed more and more Mychorizzae =;0

Why refer to Gore? Savante Arranius in 1904 was the first scientist to warn of human caused global warming. It is not a political or economic issue. It is a survival issue. Check out Things Happen - Connect the Dots on 5/5/12 on youtube. Set your politics aside and really study the issue. Thanks

If you want to make your own mycorrhiza I suggest the pro kashi ancient farming technique as well. I live in nc and as a turf guy detest Bahia grass with its silly peace sign seed head. The stuff is lawn invasive, impossible to eradicate and down right ugly. Check out my video of how I followed Brian McGrath from pro kashi, how to collect and multiply IMO. This is great stuff, we need more Glomulin, grow some glomus, it's easy and can save the soil. Screw. Al gore and the liars who want to

Your reference to Al Gore makes me think that your words are more political than scientifically based. I appreciate what Gore has done to defend the truth but i knew of global warming before i ever heard his name. There is much more to the story than that CO2 promotes growth. Please dig deeper. We need you and anyone who sincerely wants to defend truth to understand climate change. Check out James Hanson or Bill McKibben. Good luck.
