Today we are unboxing the new Orient Neo Classic, a mashup of some of the funkiest designs Orient used to have in the 70's. From the Orient King Diver I featured to the Orient World Timer.
With a toneau case and fluted bezel, it wears larger than the specs would suggest, while the faceted markers, hands and colors on the dial scream 70's.
Powered by the Orient in-house made caliber F6922 that features both hacking and hand winding as well as 200m of water resistance, this thing can handle anything you throw at it.
The only complaint I have is the use of a mineral crystal, which I hope they upgrade to sapphire in future itterations.

Orient was exactly like that in the 70s and 80s; there are still plenty of unique and bold vintage pieces like that in Brazil, for instance. A diver like that may be not to everyone's taste, but no one can deny it's uncommon and serious in terms of specifications.

I got this two weeks ago. I replaced the strap for a canvas khaki archer strap. Looks really cool. It's gain 3 secs per day.....the internal bezel doesn't move with the use.....i got the jdm....love the Japanese character for the day window

Very nice looking watch. Love the heritage Orient watches!. I'm wearing my orange bezel 44.5 mm Mako XL right now with the date changing pusher at 2!! 😂 And I love the quirky nature of it. It's a pity it's mineral but maybe that's part of the vintage idea, as new Orient divers are mostly sapphire. Really looking forward to seeing the full review!

It is a thing of retro beauty, I couldn’t help but notice the internal play on the internal bezel though when you adjusted it… looks a bit sloppy. It’s a shame because I love an internal bezel & the absence of a locking crown & bezel is a little disappointing too.

Crowns placement reminds me of the Alpinist .. if they do this in green with gold hands and markers like the original, oft sought after and hard to find, Alpinist and put Sapphire crystal on it I would buy in immediately.

I think so many guys are obsessed with sapphire glass. Yes, mineral glass can be scratched but same goes to your steel, titanium, bronze cases. Mineral glass is harder than steel and more elastic and more shatterproof than sapphire. It is the golden standard.

Zero sapphire shattered and all minerals scratched so far for me. So no, you are not right. I buy sapphire or acrylic, which is super easy to polish, easy to replace. Hardlex can suck it.

We should all just quit buy Seiko and Orient until they move up to sapphire. I have so many Seiko watches that I have changed over to sapphire because of scratches. If the Chinese can put sapphire on watches under $100US then everybody can.

As a Seiko fanboy I totally agree! I have original Monster Gen 2 (pointy teeth) and the Seiko Tuna, both with hardlex. I also have the red dial Heimdallr Monster and yellow Steeldive Tuna with sapphire. The bracelet on my Heimdallr is better than the original I had on the Seiko. However I got them because I like the colours, Seiko didn't make them. I will admit that if Seiko had the watches in those colours I would have bought them even with hardlex! 😂 Because Seiko is the original as are the few Orient watches I own. Btw Orient have turned to sapphire these days, for example the Kamasu, Ray, new Makos are sapphire. I do hope Seiko start doing it but as they're selling millions of those new Seiko 5's they probably won't. I actually bought the orange dial Seiko GMT, a gorgeous watch, and I went ahead and swapped the crystal for a sapphire. Cost me more but you can't beat the real one. There is a very nice original design San Martin GMT though I'm very keen on. Maybe the next sale I'll go for one. At the end of the day though for watch buyers who are not fans of particular brands, you can definitely do better than Seiko. 100%. But I wouldn't bypass newer Orients' as now their divers are nearly all sapphire. 🙂

Orient is doing sapphire much more often than Seiko. Kamasu I, II, the new Mako III and i believe that the new Mako Chronographs, all between $200 and $300 have sapphire crystals, while pricier Seikos have only hardlex (which for all intents and purposes is still mineral). The chinese brands like Pagani can keep prices down because they don't have any effort in design, marketing and healthy work relations.

@jims4539 Oh stop whining. Don't buy them if it bothers you that much. My Speedmaster is sapphire and all I hear is people like you saying it's not a proper seedy without acrylic. You just can't please people like you.
