I have both watches. The Seiko is aligned perfect, no problems at all. I have a newer version so maybe they corrected it. I have the save the ocean 2019 model. I have the black Orient on metal bracelet and it's also awesome. Love them both.

thanks for being honest about seiko quality glitches, they're common and infuriating. as you probably know visual inspection is the most basic level of quality control, Seiko flunks this repeatedly with glaring misalignment issues. I bought a chronograph with every single chrono hand misaligned. what's the point of a 1/5 s meca quartz movement running on a dial off by seconds to start with? anyway, you may be lucky you didn't get the 6r movement, I find mine to be wildly unstable and therefore difficult to regulate

How about instead of saying "hey Seiko if you're watching this send me a new watch" and laughing about it you hurry up and RETURN THE WATCH RIGHT AWAY!! Call up or E-mail the dealer you bought it from and talk to someone about it, know your options. You are clearly not satisfied with your watch, you bought it from an Authorized Dealer, so get off your ass, stop lamenting/complaining/whining, and make good use of that warranty? You got this watch like 3 days ago? don't wait, ask for a refund, exchange, or warranty service right away!! Act now before they are all sold out and you are stuck.

With the $250 difference, the comparison is clear after all. I have 3 Orient and they are great. But I don't understand why the filmer doesn't try to make a click of the bezel to the left on the Seiko.

@JRoJamz

At the beginning I believe you meant to say you could be objective, not subjective. I have been itching to get a new Samurai, but with the standard textured dial in blue. More understated, better to my tastes as a daily beater. Wonder if that has the same quality issues, which, with the movement, are a bit disappointing.

I enjoyed watching this video. These are both watches that I would consider wearing and taking diving. But these are dive watches, and they were reviewed as jewellery. No consideration was given to the fact that the Seiko is an ISO rated diver, meaning that every piece is rigourously tested. Unlike the Bach testing that I expect Orient conducts on their ''water resistant' divers. the bezel may be slightly misaligned at the 12 o'clock position, but the point of a dive bezel is to align it with the minute hand, which could be anywhere on the dial. A 120 click bezel will allow you to do this to +/- 15 seconds accuracy. where it is at 12 is irrelevant. I agree the Ray is a great value watch, and is actually closer to my ideal size for a dive watch. But I can't help feeling that you marked the Seiko down, for all the wrong reasons. The new hour hand is much more suitable for a dive watch too, by the way, as it cannot be confused with the minute hand. And finally... did you REALLY say that the mako is NOT a submariner homage? Did you look at the case? the shape of the indices? the crown guards?

That Orient does not belong on a leather strap, just doesn't look right on a diver style watch IMO.

Good review, but you should have compared the Seiko Samurai with the Orient Mako USA II, which sells for $375 on the Orient website. It has a sapphire crystal and has hacking. I almost wish I had bought the Mako instead of the Samurai. Seiko needs to improve its quality control.

Usability should be lower on the orient, I think Bezel ease and action is THE feature that makes a dive watch. If you get it wrong or subpar, hmm, not really usable. I purchased the blue Mako II and returned because of the bezel and the difficult crown. (I'm a bit OCD about timing daily activities, I really need a good bezel). Tremendously beautiful watch, the Ray and the Mako. Perhaps someday with a Mako III. BTW, you have, by far, some of the best natural lighting and capture of watches of any reviews.
@ChefTom777
@ChefTom777 5 жыл бұрын
usability is to tell accurate time.. & seiko fall short in that category.. they lack on quality control of making accurate time & orient is always runs accurate out of the box & even after many years of use... the reason wht you have a watch is to tell you the time especially if you job requires accurate time like the ospital, business meetings, rescue missions etc.. orient is more dependable..

this review is wrong on many levels. The seiko is part of the prospex lineup, which means its part of their hard use lineup and is a ISO rated dive watch. Whereas, the Orient has no ISO rating, isn't tested for hard use, and basically a fashion accessory. I rather choose a watch that I know can take a beating over something that cannot. If you want perfection in the in-house automatic world, you are looking at the wrong price points.
@GarrySkipPerkins
@GarrySkipPerkins 7 жыл бұрын
I own a lot of Seikos and Orients, many that cost far above this point, as well as some German and Swiss watches. That ISO rating is marketing BS. If you are not diving it is worthless. There are many tough watches without an ISO diver rating, and rather weak watches with it. if there is one thing a watch buyer can safely ignore, it is the ISO diver certification (or any certification, for that matter).
@proofpositive2379
@proofpositive2379 7 жыл бұрын
You have completely missed the point of my post. The reviewer is comparing and contrasting between two DIVE/SCUBA watch, not a dress watch, not a field watch, not a pilot watch, so ISO certs. do mean something when you are comparing dive/scuba watches. You may not care about the certification, but it is worth mentioning in a review about dive watches, and it does mean something to people who buy dive watches (maybe not to you). I'm glad you own seikos, orients, and other watches, I'm not sure how that is remotely relevant to this discussion or any discussion for that matter. I'm not dissing orient, I'm just pointing out how flawed this review really is, and that these two watches, while are marketed as dive/scuba watches, really serve two very different customers at different price points.

LOVE that waffle--dial backdrop!! Is that a nod to the Samurai waffle dial, you sly dog? ;) I just picked up a brand new Blue Lagoon - chapter ring (which looks to be the only thing out of alignment on your watch - the bezel & indices look like they align (?)), indices & bezel all align perfectly on mine. Still, it indicates Seiko has QC issues.

At the beginning you said you hoped to show that you are subjective, but you probably meant objective. Nice review regardless but you have a lot of redundancy in what you say, calling the watches by their full name and model number (which probably isn't necessary, just call it something quick and short) it will make your videos shorter and more concise.

You can't operate the Orient bezel in thin cotton gloves, and it gets an 8 in usability? If you can't operate the bezel in diving gloves, it should get a 0 for usability. it is a dive watch after all, and can't fulfil its most basic underwater function?

the Seiko movement is not in-house? news to me. and why is having an unsigned crown always stated as a negative? this is highly subjective. I always prefer a clean crown without pointless additional branding on it. the same way I prefer hands and chapter ring, and lugs and strap without branding. once on the front, once on the back. much more restrained and classy. especially when you look at the poorly executed logo on the Orient.

Both uses the in-house movement. Seiko BL is 4R35, Orient R2 is F6922. Both should be ok. But, 4R35 would be a bit better one - lower cost version of 6R15.
