I recently purchased both the Blue Lagoon Turtle and the Samurai, the bezel alignment is good on both, at least for me, it's definitely luck of the draw. I got mine from a brick and mortar local store, so I definitely had the advantage of seeing before buying. Keep up the good reviews Josh, I can see the improvement in video quality and editing with each video!

+Anson Tsugawa, It is definitely a luck of the draw thing, glad your's are aligned. This is part of the reason I think sending it back would be a pain, I could just get another one with a messed up bezel. Thanks for the support, I have decided to dial back the number of uploads so I can focus on making better more informed videos for you all. Thanks for watch-ing, Josh

The only seiko I've owned that DIDN'T have misaligned dial/hsnds/indices is the lowly Seiko 5. We'd all like seiko quality to rise as you move up their range but it just doesn't, their movements are also overrated except at the very bottom and very top of their range. There's a reason they quote awful accuracy specs, they mean it. I always have to find a way to look past something lousy about my seikos, I want them to be all they could be. But the crappy accuracy, sad bracelets, and poor assembly quality on many models just get harder to ignore. If I had it to do over I'd buy a seiko 5, save up for a Snowflake, and ignore all the rest of seiko

+Michael Dietsche, One of my SARB pieces had an issue similar to this, I am not sure what is to be done to fix this situation. However, I have not experienced the bad accuracy (not saying it doesn't exist). Thanks for watch-ing, Josh

Congrats man! very nice seiko, been thinking about buying one for a while, but kind of in two minds between chosing Sumo and this one! both are roughly same price but Sumo is a tad larger I think, the biggest Sumo advantage is it's movement 6r15 which is a notch above 6r35 in this watch! what do you think!? I personally prefer Samurai case design especially it's bezel but sumo sounds like a better value watch!
@PerfectTimepiece
@PerfectTimepiece 7 жыл бұрын
+Anoosh Mokhtarian, Thank you! From my cursory research, it seems like the movement in the sumo is slightly more accurate, and has a bit of a longer power reserve. It is also newer, which may come with durability advantages. For me, the angular case shape, the fact that it wears small on the wrist, and that the movement hacks was enough for me. The tank like look really does it for me. Thanks for watch-ing, Josh

I'm wondering what is wrong with seiko! nearly all their divers have misaligned chapter ring and bezel!!! is it that hard to fix!!?
@PerfectTimepiece
@PerfectTimepiece 7 жыл бұрын
+Anoosh Mokhtarian, Im sure people will rage from this comment, but I am pretty sure Seiko has machines do final assembly of the watch, and their quality assurance may not pay this much attention. Short answer, it is not hard for a human to fix, but I doubt this watch has a human touch. Thanks for watch-ing, Josh

Just a few (definitely well meant) comments: Try to find your own style of videos, something that represent you, this style copying (and in this video even finger snapping added, next will be driving car in the beginning?) does not feel genuine... Also get a tighter gloves, something that allows better manipulation, even silicone ones would look better IMO. Good luck!

Another poor quality piece from seiko. BTW they make baby watches of questionable quality. Nothing could be worse than a crooked dial, you see it every time you look at the time. Sadly, I would recommend Invicta over seiko even though Invicta uses mostly seiko movements in automatic models. But they finally stopped putting "Japan Movt" on most of the dials, so that's a plus.

While I'd like to disagree with most of your comment, $500 for misaligned indices out of the box really is unacceptable. I'd also like to point out that although US market Seikos may be somewhat questionable, a lot of the models made for Japanese domestic market only are actually quite good. All of my Sarbs have been flawless so far. I have one of these coming in the mail though, so here's to hoping I have better luck than this guy I guess.

We're all allowed our own opinions, and I think that it's perfectly fine that you like Swiss over Japanese watches, however thinking that a particular brand is better than another is often entirely subjectives, and it is most definitely not a legitimate reason for shitting on a brand altogether. Despite often looking rather similar on the surface, a $4000 Seiko is not the same thing as a $300 Seiko, and ignorance of what actually goes into making the Grand Seiko line is not an excuse for falsely claiming that they are $75 watches. You don't have to like them, but claiming they're junk without understanding or seeing one in person is pure ignorance. As far as movements go, Seiko makes their own movements. Steinhart, Hanhart, Squale, Hamilton, Mido, Oris, and modern Certina, last I checked don't. The tuning fork movement is a precursor. It may have been Bulova's idea, and the Accutrons are indeed very cool, but it's not the same thing as quartz. It was revolutionary but inefficient. Even Bulova abandoned it for quartz in the late 70's. Whether or not Seiko technically invented the quartz movement is largely up for debate, but the facts are that Seiko was the first to offer a commercially available quartz movement to the public, and they were the first to fully embrace the technology. It was so influential that it literally caused a crisis among Swiss Watchmakers. By your definition of copying, technically, every Swiss watch that uses a quartz movement ever is copying a Seiko. That doesn't sound quite right does it? Also, 1922 until now is still a pretty decent track record, considering Rolex didn't start selling true Rolexes until 1919.
@GetOuttaTheJohnBoy
@GetOuttaTheJohnBoy 7 жыл бұрын
While I did say jap watches are cheap imitations, (because they are) I never said the seiko spring drive was junk, or a $75 watch. What I did say or mean by it is the PERCEPTION of a $75 watch. When someone glances at your watch they see "SEIKO" and to most people that means $75 watch. NO ONE is going to glance at a watch that says "ROLEX" and think nice $75 watch. You can totally get a $4000 INVICTA but why would you want one when they make $75 watches? Perhaps you do need to look again because Hamilton, Steinhart and Oris DO make in-house movements. By-proxy Mido, and Certina do as well. As far as the electronic watches go, YOU said "QUARTZ", I said "ELECTRONIC". Seiko simply replaced the Accutron (1960) tuning fork with a quartz crystal variation cut in the shape of a tuning fork (1969). Everyone switched to quartz because it's cheaper to mass produce. And actually the first quartz movement was invented at Bell labs in the U.S in 1927. Like all electronics this used tubes which were not able to placed into watches for the wrist. Perhaps you're speaking of the solid state version which utilizes a transistor much like radios at the time switched to solid state transistors from tubes. Yes, we all have opinions but facts aren't open to debate.
@thefallensaints
@thefallensaints 7 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't rely on other people's perceptions when buying a watch. Just because someone else doesn't realize what your watch actually is and thinks it's a $75 watch doesn't actually make it a $75 watch does it? If I told you your Rolex was a $75 dollar watch, you would be inclined to educate me as to why it's not wouldn't you? A Rolex is not a $75 dollar watch just because someone else says it is, so why would a Grand Seiko be for that same reason? As I said before, a $4000 Grand Seiko is nowhere near the same level of craftsmanship as, say a $75 Seiko 5, and if you actually tried to argue that it is, you would be incredibly misinformed. As for in house movements, I personally own a Hamilton, and I know for a fact that while they make wonderful watches, they don't make in house movements. They modify standard ETA movements and rename them. This is the same with Steinhart, Oris, Mido, and Certina. You seem to have completely missed my point as far as Seiko and quartz goes. Whoever invented the quartz movement is not the focus in this case. The facts are that Seiko was the first company to introduce the quartz watch to the public, while many Swiss and American companies refused to. They were instrumental in quartz watches becoming commonplace, and this in turn drove innovation in many Swiss and American companies. The company we know as the Swatch Group today was founded because of the crisis that Seiko inadvertently caused. The facts are that Seiko made a legitimate contribution to horological history, and simply denying them the credit is not facing the facts.
@GetOuttaTheJohnBoy
@GetOuttaTheJohnBoy 7 жыл бұрын
Well they do use some mod eta but they also have in house movements. The H-20-S is in house and the odd numbered like H-31 and H-21. Evens like H-10,20,30 are the ETA mods.

Nice unboxing video, man. Damn, that’s a nice box! Oh and the watch ain’t too shabby either. It looks good on the wrist! The Seiko Monster hands they have been putting on their new divers are somewhat divisive. They do form a neat rocket ship when they line up, though. Also, bezel misalignment is a common problem in Seikos, unfortunately. I cannot wait to see your full review and comparisons with the Christopher Ward Trident Pro!

+James Duffy Glad you liked the video! Im not sure how I feel about the hand design myself, but the watch makes up for it in other ways. The bezel and minute track misalignment is unfortunate, but I got over it. (Not saying it wont factor into the review) Reviews and Comparisons on the way. Thanks for watch-ing, Josh
