This model kind of reminds me of the Flying Candy Cane. The rolling folds are kind of similar, but the action is completely different!

I watched your videos all the time when I was in elementary school (~2013, third grade.) . I decided to take a trip down memory lane tonight, I searched and searched but couldnt find any of your videos... Until I remembered the Wakataki, however I could not remember its name for the life of me! Ultimately, I typed "origami urban legend" into my search bar and was instantly hit with a rush of nostalgia. Front and center as the first result was JeremyShaferOrigami! It brings me immense joy to find that you're still making these videos and doing what you love, you havent changed a bit! I just binge watched a bunch of your most popular videos from back in the day and wanted to leave a comment to thank you. Sincerely, for all of the tutorials, funny bits, and memories. - Brett, 19

Thank you. Actually, I made a couple KZbin shorts in April that went rather viral and sent my views and monthly new subscribers higher than ever. I'm still sort of riding that wave. But, ya, compared to 2015-2019 my newly released tutorials aren't getting as many views as before, but that could just be part of a wider trend of viewers focusing away from origami or even away from KZbin to places like Tiktok, Instagram and other platforms. Even if no one watched my channel, I would still design new origami models and share them one way or another, because designing origami is my personal passion. Another factor to consider.... My juggling career is thriving again, now that we're post pandemic, and that partly explains my falling behind trying to get out a new tutorial every week and perhaps is also a nice excuse for any decline in quality, if there is any.

@jeremyshaferorigami4 ай бұрын
Some models take many tries and sometimes several weeks to refine enough that I am ready to teach them. But others like this springy thingy are rather quick to design. But I do experiment a lot folding a square of paper, and many times it doesn't turn into anything worth showing.

what could you do with the left over triangle when you are just about finished rolling it?
@jeremyshaferorigami Жыл бұрын
You can fold the tip of the flap over and then behind, and tuck it into itself. I actually made an addendum video for my members showing how to do this and how you can even attach multiple Springy Thingies together to make a more hefty spring. Although it will be double the power, the double spring won't jump any higher because it is also double the mass!
