Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it! As for the assembly, I would try flattening out one of the units first. Then insert the second unit's flap inside of the first unit's pocket and you should have no problem at all! Try that first, and if you keep having the same problem, try folding the units with thicker paper and give it another go. Hope this helps!

After two hours of making all the pieces and another hour of assembling I finally was able to complete the product and it looks amazing. I do recommend using the regular 6x6 in paper as using his recommended 4 is too small and difficult to work with. Amazing looking design!
@EzOrigami13 жыл бұрын
@AbRas644 I'm sure you could use tant, but I prefer using thinner paper to fold this model. In my opinion, copy paper seems to be the perfect thickness for this model, it comes in a variety of colors, and it holds the units together quite well.

@mancinerie Thanks so much, I really appreciate your kind words! I'm sure many people will enjoy folding your fantastic design, so I really want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to share it with them! :D

Great job Evan! You found a clear folding sequence. Altough other designers indipendently discovered this unit nobody thought about this shape. I hope everybody will enjoy this model. For more fun you can try to change the paper proportions and the assemblies. Happy folding Francesco

Great modular model. The hardest part was just to cut the rectangles out of the square paper!I love watching your videos, because you explain in great detail! Keep up the great work!

@edwardholmes91 Thank you very much, I'm glad you like the it! You're exactly right, this unit is very similar to Tom Hull's unit, the only real difference is the dimensions of the paper used to fold the units. Several designers have independently discovered this unit, but Francesco Mancini was the first to use them create this shape. Also, these units can certainly be used to make various shapes. Several variations can be seen in Francesco Mancini's Flickr Photostream.

This is an awesome model and tutorial! I did not have any trouble with the folding at all but assembly was a huge problem for me! I could not get the modules to stay together to save my soul so I resorted to a little glue on each flap. I admit it...I cheated...;~(... but it turned out great, all the same. I even used printer paper as you suggested. Don't know what my issue was but I got her done. Anyways, thank you for your great video, I appreciate you!

@ko142007 You're very welcome! :) I'm sorry about the confusion... I meant to include the measurements of the completed model in the video, so thanks for pointing that out! If you start with 4" squares, the final model will be about 9.5" in diameter (the distance between two opposite points). I hope that helps! If you need any further clarification, please let me know!

Amazing tutorial and shape! I'M definitely subscribing! I had trouble with assembly, but I believe it is because I made it too big. I'm gonna try 8cm squares...

@Msaorigami Thanks a lot, Martin! :D Actually, no... I made 30 new units for the assembly in the video, but I wasn't exactly satisfied with the video when I first recorded the first few units of the assembly. So, I recorded that part of the assembly for a second time (apparently with the units that I already used in the first attempt). I actually didn't notice that until you mentioned it, so I hope it's not too much of a problem!

Great Video Evan. Forgive me for saying that your videos are slow, there not. Actually your videos are one of the most descriptive and helpful origami videos on KZbin.

@edwardholmes91 Yeah, one of the reasons why I like this model so much is because the unit is so versatile. It's not very difficult to fold, and many fantastic shapes can easily be created from it! Once you get around to folding this model, I would love to see pictures of your results. By the way, great job folding the FIT out of money, it is so clean! :D Do you have an account on Flickr? If not, I would recommend making one because I'm sure many people would love to see what you have folded!

Great work as always Evan :D Nice clear folding instructions! Been looking forward to seeing this one for a while as I love modular origami! The unit reminds me of the unit used to make Compound of Five Tetrahedra but instead of using 1:3 paper your using 1:2. Just wondering if you could make different models with this unit? Maybe make an Icosahedron with 20 triangular star faces? Not sure if this would work or not, but can get back to you when I've had chance to try it :)

Very nice instructions, Evan! =) I really like those effects. Out of curiosity, I see that you have assembled the model in the video. But have folded it before the recording... So have you disassembled it? But those units look increased (you know, the crease you make when assembling it). The only solution I can see is that you have refolded it. :)
@edwardholmes9113 жыл бұрын
@EzOrigami Well I've finally got round to folding this one. Made it using some gift wrap and I think it looks great! Tried to make an icosahedron but it doesn't work. The limit for this unit is a square shape I think. Hexagons could also be made as well so a truncated icosahedron could be made I suppose. Not had chance to take a picture but as soon as I do I will upload it to my Dailybooth. Thanks once again for posting a tutorial on this amazing model Evan! Great work! :D
@Msaorigami13 жыл бұрын
I can't see creases on the units in the assembling demonstration. But maybe your right. Between, I didn't mean increased, I meant uncreased. Sorry about that. :P And I'm sure it won't affect the video! This video is amazingly clear - like all your other videos. I've had some problems making my videos clear... They are clear enough, I hope!

@EzOrigami Thank you for your kind comments. I have an account of Dailybooth my user is edwardholmes91 on there if you would like to see more of my modular origami :) I practised the FIT 3 times before making it with money. But as I live in the UK I had to buy it from the travel agents... the lady looked stunned when I asked her for 30 x $1 dollar bills that were crisp because I was using them to fold an origami model! Cost about £19.90 at the time I seem to recall. One of my favourites though!

How's it possible to fold even 1 module from a 4-inch square, which really isn't a 4-inch square at all after it's been cut in half? It's just too small, and on a slight tangent, how can you assemble 3 pieces without inadvertly disassembling the previous ones? I put 2 pieces together, partially connect the 3rd one, then either the 1st or 2nd one dislocates itself, and the whole thing falls apart. Also, in the video, you say that larger paper is being used, so could you tell me the exact dimensions of that paper, because I think that might be the problem with my failed assembly.
