Really helpful! Thank you so much! I know this is part one so you might have planned a video on what I'm about to suggest anyway. Can you show what the different coloured lines mean. Red and blue are mentioned but what about for example grey? Thanks!
@OrigamiByBoice
@OrigamiByBoice 4 жыл бұрын
Ah, The grey lines in my examples are the grid lines. So for the first two examples that are 8x8 grid, it just represents where you folded your grid so you know where to precrease if the red and blue lines were not drawn in. Grey lines are called auxiliary lines. They help you with reference points but aren't collapsed or folded in the final model

@@OrigamiByBoice Yes! I was aware of that! What always confuses me are the different coloured lines on Lang's crease patterns. While folding his yellow jacket I had a look at the crease pattern to see if I could learn something. The grey lines he uses were precreased in the diagrams and collapsed but later unfolded. There were some other ones that were collapsed like the normal mountain and valleys though. And I've never understood why he used them. I hope this time I was clearer and thanks in advance 😉

@@TheFolderOrigami Ah I just looked up the crease pattern as well. Its very interesting what lang uses. He uses red for both mountain and valley with the dotted for valley. It seems he makes the crease patterns for the folding sequence of a partial base, then completed base, and then shaping. The grey lines seem to be this, where it helps with the base collapse, but unfolds to get stretches or other structures used for shaping. I'll perhaps try to ask Lang himself and find out the reason :)

@@OrigamiByBoice That would be great! Thanks for the information. Maybe I should try folding one of your models before attempting a Lang CP. I'll probably fold the swordsman from your tutorial and look at the crease pattern at the same time.

I noticed this but most crease pattern classes on youtube don't tell the color code. Red is mountain, blue is valley

Good video boice I have just one suggestion If possible, do give some examples where the specific patterns can be used Or their most common uses like elijah streaches seem easy to understand but it can be hard to tell what it can be used for.

14:30 i didnt get how it pivits,i can only do it by doing a small diagonal fold but you make it feel like the paper just turns by itself,did i do it right?i mean the result looks the same but it didnt feel right
@OrigamiByBoice
@OrigamiByBoice 10 ай бұрын
In your case, the result is probably the same but the internal layer structure might be slightly different. This is ok because the internal layers don't matter so much.

I'm not sure I understand the "stretch" concept. Does it mean the folding makes the paper look "thinner"?
@OrigamiByBoice
@OrigamiByBoice Жыл бұрын
Its the name of the sequence Neal Elias came up with for folding these types of structures. The other way to think of them is multiple reverse folds or multiple sink folds and often it is to "thin" a flap down. A thinner flap will appear to be "longer"

In boxpleat designs it is a structure that transitions the pleat patterns either up by 1 grid unit or down by half a grid unit.
