Origin 125A Review | Star Citizen 3.12 Gameplay

Here's the thing to remember about the 100 series. They are snub craft. Meaning they can spawn at Platinum Bay outposts on planets. Extremely useful. They have a tiny signature. They punch well above their weight class, this is a size 1 ship with 2 size 3 weapon mounts and 2 to 6 size 2 missles. They are extremely cheap to run and make for an amazing planet side run-about due to the fuel scoop. I have picked up a 125a during invictus launch week and I am seeing so many uses for the 100 series, very impressed.

I view it less as a Standalone ship, and more as the most advanced / versatile snub-fighter the game currently has to offer. When we're going on a scavenging trip with the Carrack and expect trouble, the 125a is what we'll bring along.

In 3.14 I had dozens of ships to choose from but more often than not, I'd pick the 125A whenever I needed to get from point A to point B. It's quick to take off, fun to fly, and can be spawned at outposts. It's a fun and versatile starter and general runabout-the kind of ship that always stays in your hangar no matter how many other ships you have.

If I were the combat-focused type, I would love this as a starter ship. I never liked the box wings of the 300 series and this is much cooler looking. What I would really like to see is a 115p version though. Instead of 4 extra cargo or 4 extra missiles, it could have extra quantum fuel and a small computer with a bespoke scanner or something. The AIR system on top of that would make it the perfect little scout and even with only 2scu of space, you could cherry-pick a component or two for yourself from wrecks or an ore sample etc and sell the info.

@@Farrister I'm the "loner info dealer/scout" type So the idea of a 115p would be perfect for me. Other than that, I would go for the 315p, the Terrapin, the Herald, or the Star Runner when turret blades become a thing. Not that it matters to me right now since I don't currently have a computer able to play the game lol. When I did though, the only ship I had was the 315p but I hope to change that if I can ever get another gaming machine.

It has a very low energy signature, especially if you build it right, so it ends up being EXCELLENT for prisoner escape pickups, which is mainly how I use it. Also with the AIR system, the 100 series are great if you want to actually explore and look around places with a ship without worrying about fuel.

Very nice video as always! Coming from larger fighters I was very impressed by the 125a. Mainly because of a feature you didn't mention but made a great difference to me: the afterburner went on and on and on and on without overheating. Combined with the high SCM speed, what means better maneuverability at higher speeds than most adversaries, I was able to easily outrun a Vanguard in atmosphere. The fat heavy fighter simply couldn't keep up with my afterburner assisted manouvers. Also, you can easily and almost completely eliminate any driftiness and greatly enhance breaking. Try to find a light fighter that can keep up with it - not many can. Also, 2 SCU are plenty for smuggling drugs what can be quite profitable. Here, the small profile and signature probably help a lot. The 300 series is fat by comparison. I think the 100 series is somewhat underrated.

I flew a 100i for a few weeks when they first were announced. Really nice little ship and I regret getting rid of it. I'll probably end up making the 125A my runabout though. The fuel efficiency on these makes it one less thing to worry about.

I love my 125a, i would never use it for combat but with its high speed, great fuel efficiency, the door you can just walk into and the little cargo area to put boxes, its the perfect little runabout. Plus its very small so can fit practically everywhere. ( and i think it looks stunning)

This ship could make sense "IF" the access price could be brought down by 20% both in cash and game credits. As it is the ship is too close to the 300i serie which is in a totally different weight and capability category. On the lower side comes the 85x which still has 2 crew with real seats, 2 size 1 shield generators, same range and much better handling both in acceration and breaking (being closer to the M50). You only have size 1 weapons, but 4 of them all gimbed, and you lose the 2 cargo units (and ability to carry boxes) but the price is much lower (570aUEC) and fits littereally everywhere. As far as you pick the 125i as your first starter ship it could still make some sense, but I'd never buy it in game or with real money outside a starter package: 1 size 1 shieldgen kills it dead to me.

Best courier ship in the game and its not even close. This is no starter ship. It also makes a fantastic scout ship because of its AIR fuel replenishing system, it can fly around all day planet side scouting around.

Super easy to get in and out of during box missions. Plus it can be spawned on blue outpost pads which is nice to have if you’ve ever had a ship despawn while at a trade kiosk and been left stranded

With its limited combat capability, my choice was to spend a little more for the 135C, intending to use it as one of the runabouts on an 890 Jump. These little ships are delightful and efficient to fly, and I've considered getting a 125A for its higher speed, considering that quantum-sensitive box missions are my current zen activity of choice.

@@Farrister In all seriousness though I think I will pickup one of these in game as a stealth loadout brings the detection range down to around 300 meters, it's black and difficult to spot, small enough to land anywhere and that super slim profile makes it tough to hit. I think anyone who wanted to slip in and out of places unnoticed should consider this as a personal transport

Older vid but quick comment. I love the look and feel of the 325a but something they haven't addressed that always has been horrible with that ship (300 series) is the insanely fragile wings that when blown off takes out a huge amount of your firepower.

Great review, although you missed two important points with this ship (and all of the 100i line): 1. They (as far as im aware) are the only ships in game with cargo and a bed which can be spawned at one if the Platinum Bay Vehicle Pads. This is great if your ship despawns when attempting a box collection mission. 2. The AIR system unique to this line makes this a really fuel efficient little ship! I have the 135c which ive kitted out fully in stealth gear (inc slate black paint) and use as a amazing stealth courier and smuggler. Oh also for those whom it matters too, this ship fits in the Carrack beautifully!!

If you decide to do a 135c review, it maybe worthwhile mentioning both the PB Pad and the AIR SYSTEM as both are very useful for delivery, box and in system runs. I really do love my Super Stealthy 135c courier, and that AIR system comes in VERY useful when flying to locations that sell less than legal substances. Keep up the great work sir. PS i have a ton of ships, if your looking for a particular one for a review, let me know as i may have it and am happy to spawn it for you.

You didn't even mention its afterburners. You really should abuse the crap out of the engines since you can pretty much hold X from your top speed all the way to a stop (add a flip to the bottom or middle in the middle of a breaking manuver will make it go from full speed to a stop in a fraction of the time most ships). If you take advantage of its incredible afterburner cooling it is unbelievably nimble. I bought mine and use it all the time to fly from stations down to planets and back because it can make the trip incredibly fast.

@@Farrister Holding X it will go from full speed to a stop using 120% thrust and only start to overheat just at the end. I usually flip the ship so that the bottom is facing the direction I'm traveling since those are the second strongest set of engines. (I do this out of habit because I use this technique when bounty hunting to slow down and then chase the ai with my main thrusts which haven't started heating up yet because I didn't use them to slow down.) The flip is entirely unnecessary in this ship though, it just makes it stop even faster than holding X does.

The 125 A is the most fuel efficient ship in the game and that will be highly useful when exploration is a thing. it NEVER needs hydrogen fuel and runs very well with all components being grade A stealth again making it very useful in hostile territory Also It will fit in the Carrack and the Hercules variants. Another thing that makes it a joy to fly for exploration is its small size since landing a large ship can be difficult to say the least in many places. In my opinion most have not realized this small versatile ships great value but eventually will.

I think the reasons for a 125A are three: Can be called from a vehicle pad, when you find yourself stranded, and that you won't run out of fuel, or if you do, the ship can re-fill on its own if you ran it dry. 135 should be good for smuggling high value contraband...

The way I see the 100 series... well I mostly like the 135C, the missile racks on the 125A are nice but I never felt like it set it apart that much, or really nailed down the dogfighter role to me. But the 135C I see as basically an expensive Mustang Alpha, with the benefit of being spawnable from vehicle pads (don't ask me what the logic is in what ships can and can't spawn from mining outpost vehicle pads) I feel the main weakness of the 100 series is, and I'm not 100% sure what geometry is behind this, but the 100 series is just too large for a single shield generator to be competitive. The Arrow is drastically different, because of just the amount of missed shots that the ship's performance metrics can cause to an aggressor. It's not even uncommon for someone to FEEL like a hostile Arrow is tankier than a hostile Gladius just because you don't realize how many shots are missing.

How do you rate the 135?

@@Farrister It's basically the Mustang Alpha with fixed guns. The Alpha has better shields, and the gimballed weapons loadout can be considered higher-performing in a maneuvering dogfight, but there is a bit of the Arrow factor, where the 135 takes longer to kill than you might expect from the stats. My feeling is the Mustang is still a little better, and a little longer lasting, but it'll come down a lot to pilot skill. If not for the strange fact that the 135 can be summoned from vehicle pads, I think there'd be no reason to use one instead of a Mustang (other than the current issues of being easier to do box missions with the 100 series, and not needing to try and finangle the boxes behind the Mustang pilot seat using the tractor beam).

If it were alone at its price point, it's a good ship. But so many better options in that price neighborhood, it's really hard to justify owning, except for its niche fits: the fuel scoops and can (barely) fit in a Carrack. At $45 it would be worthwhile.

I'm narrowing down a snub/fighter that fits in a Carrack and a 890 Jump that spawns at a Platinum Bay. While not ideal for both, having a basic fighter with quantum is nice. Tweaked up it should be okay to fend off other light fighters.

QT fuel store is small? 700l is the highest you'll find on any starter ship. To what do you think you are comparing it? I'm just surprised to find you not knowing about a ship you review, as your reviews are usually spot on.

I don't necessarily compare them directly - when I flew it, it was small relative to the Stanton system, with the quantum drive upgrade. If you don't upgrade the drive, its a little slow. I try to focus on the experience of playing rather than direct comparisons. That said, it's quite possible things have changed since 3.12!

When you consider a 300i is cheaper to buy in game than the 125a, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The only advantages I can see the 125a has over the 325a are being lighter, more maneuverable, and about one third of the size of the 325a, so you can probably fit more of them in an 890 jump. The steps are also much less likely to murder you than the 300 series' ladder of death.

Have to agree with the last bit. It's not a bad ship by any means but an Aurora is basically the same for half the price and even the penguin is cheaper. In-game there is no reason to buy it as Arrow and 325 are in the same price range.

I think the main selling point for me regarding 100 series ships, is one held by the aurora and the pisces too. They all fit in a Carrack, which means they should fit in any larger ship. So I mostly see the Aurora and 100 as super handy shuttlepods rather than starter ships. Sadly the Mustang can't do this, and feels for the most part, pretty useless after a few hours of play.

I think the 100 series is somewhat overpriced in regards to it's intended purpose. I see the ship line as a "premium starter" but the current ingame+pledge pricing puts it at that awkward spot between more "mid-tiered" starter ships like the reliant, avenger or the 300 series. Because of that youre almost always *not* going to recommend this ship line unless the player is extremely brand loyal or simply prefer the more premium feel. Imo cig definitely need to either a) slightly buff this ship line, or b) drop the price slightly which would make it a more viable starter option.
