That's a common misconception about Dr Martens shoes, that they will all last a lifetime. However, only the real leather, original style are really built to last. The more fashionable ones are made with some kind of fabric that breaks very easily. That's something you need to keep in mind when buying them

Yes and No. The "Made in England" has a longer durability, but that all comes down to where it is made and the style. You can read on the DM site about the type of leather that is used. As for where it is manufactured, I have seen that most of the shoes/boots made outside of England, really at best have a super super fast rush job if any on the "Goodyear Welt". I think this would be better with a follow up video of how long the knockoffs last and at what the average wearing rate is on them as well..

The made in asia‘s will last you some time too though. I‘ve had mine for 5 years now and they‘re still doing fine even though I‘m wearing them almost everyday since the day I bought them. I bet the MIE‘s will last you much longer than they will, but 190€ for 5+ years of wearing them? Thats a pretty good deal in my opinion

You should put a denim patch on the inside to reinforce your sewing and the fabric so it doesn’t pull

Unfortunately the pascal style docs often rip in that location due to them being a much softer leather, also when they are a sparkle or glitter finish they are often a weaker material too :(

Yea I wish , but it was on their decision of judgment that it was due to factory fault or not. Otherwise they would of sent the same ones back to me.. but kinda wished I got a discount voucher or something tho.. so I could get some anothers.

I've seen comments saying that the "special leather" like this sparkly one aren't as durable but that doesn't matter. When you buy Dr. Martens for the price they retail, they should NOT tear after a handful of uses. Absolutely ridiculous. If this is normal and to be expected, they shouldn't be selling this.

I spent more than half my life coveting a pair of Docs. Going back to the 80s in high school. Over the years, most of my friends who were die hard Doc wearers (punks & skins) have denounced the brand because of the decline in quality craftsmanship. I had one friend who hung in and refused to buy from the stores that popped up around NYC. Doc Martens are now being sold at Nordstrom Rack and Walmart (!) for ridiculous prices. I'm glad that I watched this video, so I can be stylish without going broke :) Thanks a lot!

In 2013 Permira bought Griggs, you might have Griggs martens, I have a pair from 2011, old but still alive. Maybe Griggs demanded better production than Permira does, despite outsourcing. Probably🤷‍♂️.

I think Doc Martens don't have the same quality as they used to, sadly. My mum told me she wore hers for like 10 years, I wore mine for 1 and they literally dissolved, the sole had holes and the shoe itself as well. I won't be buying any Docs anymore, which is sad because I really like the look, but I think they aren't worth their enormous price :/

The quality of Doc's has gone down since the 90's you're basically paying for a brand name. The knock offs will last about the same amount of time as the brand name depending on the style of shoe.

Seems like Dr Martens quality gets lower and lower... I've had 2 pairs of real Dr Martens (Pascal and 1460 Patent) bought them about 7years ago and the quality was great (wore them for like 5 years). Last year my boyfriend bought a pair of real DM boots and I bought fake one from Amazon for 40€. Sad to say but I made a better purchase.. Mine are not branded but at least they are not falling apart.

Thanks for uploading. I've been humming & arhing on whether to buy a pair of authenic Dr Martens. They are expensive but like most people you expect the brand is quality. I wouldn't expect the material to come apart. It's so disappointing. I don't think I'll be buying Dr Martens if the quality is shite.

Mine and a bunch of my friends docs have all cracked within a year, its so bad when you're spending over £100 for a pair of shoes, you expect them to last. Someone I know went in and complained and they gave her some sort of leather nourisher but it didn't do anything, probably because of the like plastic coating they put on them which I am certain is on purpose. I still love the style of docs but I would only get them on offer.

I bought my original Doc Martin's back in 1991,and later on in 1992 I got married wearing them and I got divorced in them 1999, 7years later. I still have them today. I have replaced the sole twice, and the laces plenty of times. I wore them daily for about 15 years. They are so broken in that they are more comfortable than any pair of gym shoes I have ever had. I don't think that they make them as GOOD as they did back in the day. Thank God, that I lived through the New Wave era that introduced me to the world's most indestructible shoe.

The boot is currently unavailable, but it's only been worn a handful of times, and it's such a cute style with the sparkles that I wanted to try to repair it. It definitely seems to be a problem with the boot, though.

I've got mines since 3 years (classics 1460 cherry red) i've been wearing them a lot, i've hiked with them (muddy forests, mountains) , even worn them in snow ! Ordered them on Amazon official dr martens page for 100 euros and they're perfect ! So sad that you had a probleme with yours since its so pricy !

Doc martens aren’t the same as they used to be :/ which is a shame really the originals were hardwearing but now they are kinda just a fashionable boot they aren’t as durable

You can pay a bit more and get Solovair which look the same exept for the yellow stitching and are made in England. Or you can pay quite a bit more and get Docs made in England. They have European thicker leather but also harder. The originals would be made in Germany dough, but the Germans are too snobby nowdays to make shoes.

Surprising that they broke - definitely a factory problem: they must've stamped the leather in the wrong place making it weaker there.

I've had two pairs of docs. My first pair were the Vonda Rose docs and I've had them since around 2014 and they're still going strong. In 2016 I bought a pair of Skelly Soft T docs and they last just over a year but the leather tore away from the sole.. I was not impressed in the slightest. I've just invested in a pair of green Jadon Vintage ones and I'm hoping they last otherwise I'm going to be super annoyed.

So sorry the silver ones broke! I still have my original first pair from 1982(?) yes I’m old lol, and numerous pair bought since then. My 82 pair I still wear and they’re fine. I have ordered faux items- mostly bags from Ali and I offer, and been happy. But I did order a pair of faux uggs, in December, early, and still waiting. Btw I would have taken the real ones to a shoe makers.

Wow, I will definitely be checking these out! The Ali pair are a bit more like the 1460s which are a bit wider compared to the Pascal's (from my experience of having thinner feet and the 1460s being a bit too wide) But for £20 I would just put a thicker pair of socks on!

If you use eBay and don't care about wearing used shoes you can buy them for as cheap as 70$ for shoes that are used or someone got them wholesale and can sell them for realy cheap you just gotta look

I just bought a pair of Dr. Martens leather sandals, women's size 11 US thinking they were a 9 but that's UK size. No biggie. These are like brand new so I guess I'll flip them on ebay. Darn they're so cute too! Little flowers carved in the leather. Does anyone know what all the numbers mean on the size stamp? I'm looking for the style number so I can flip them. The pascals are a slimmer style than the original 1460, which is what your black ones are. That accounts for the width difference, but they really do look just like 1460s.
