Fun Fact: When making the concept for Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama and his editor were struggling to think of ideas until Toriyama’s wife walked in and suggested those Chinese Budist martial artists Toriyama would watch on tv. If it wasn’t for that suggestion Dragon Ball possibly wouldn’t even exist the same way it does today. Thank you Nachi Mikami.

You know that Cell exists because his friend literally told him that #19 and #20 are just some punk and a old geezer? Then Toriyama made #17 and #18 (and #16), which he criticized that now he's making two brats? Then Akira Toriyama had to made more intimidating foe, which was Cell. If not for that, those plot twists wouldn't exist. Also it's kind of ironic, don't You think? Cell's Perfect form isn't even scary. His Imperfect form is more of a monster, then he looks like someone have punched him on the face and finally he's handsome. I love how those small accidental things changed everything. Also it's more ironic, when You see the next major villain being a pink gum ball, which is even less intimidating.

OG Dragonball is the best and honestly I love it way more than Z, I remember as a Kid I was like nah this is fun but DBZ is the Goat but then I rewatched it in my early 20s and I Was mindblown at how much more I appreciated it & so much stuff was done so Superbly, the comedy, the characters, the CHOREOGRAPHY of the fights wasnt super repetitive like later fights in DBZ devolved to. Its funny cause I've talked to countless people who felt the same that when they were younger it was all about DBZ but when they got older around their mid 20s they Appreciated DragonBall so much more & said it was their fav. For the most part besides some issues here and there its damn near a Timeless classic & Im lookin forward to watchin your reviews on it

Same.. I've watched Dragonball a decade after Z, and I was shocked how much I liked it. As in I liked Z, but I loved DB and could not stop watching it. And even while I knew that the stakes and powers and abilities would go through the roof in Z, I was surprised how entertaining and exciting the fight scene's become during the later two tournaments. At times thinking that they felt overpowered compared to the abilities in Z. I still consider the Piccolo Jr. arc to be the most entertaining and exciting arc in all of Dragonball history.

Dang. I always thought people watched both. I checked Z out for the first time when vegeta got his tail cut by yargirobe. Couldn’t watch anything before cause you know, it was lyke 2000. No internet. Toonami. Namekian saga comes along a few weeks later BUT they aired dragon ball too. So at 5 pm dragon ball would come on. Starting from the pilaf arc. And at 5:30, dragon ball z would come on starting at the namekian saga. So me and my friends just watched both and all of us loved the original more

Toei turned it into an elaborate puzzle with 3 treasure chests and a guardian statue. It just makes the whole thing a tedious watch after spoiling yourself on the manga I do wish Dragonball could get the Kai treatment like DBZ because a Kai-remaster is most definitely what it needs. Dragonball is more adventure focused, much like One Piece. You can clearly see the inspiration Oda took from Dragonball and how it differs from Dragonball Z. @UnifiedEntity3 жыл бұрын
@@visoth7791 Those areas arent even explored in mass. Im on volume 13 of Dragonball and those areas go fairly quickly. We dont learn about much in the snow region, as it isnt important cause goku just goes to the tower and leaves in a hurry. Its not like he is tracking through Red Ribbon Outposts across a wide snowy area for chapters on end. The Namek saga felt more like an adventure because we literally spend time in a WHOLE new area, learning about a group of people and their culture while dealing with a conflict with another faction. Even ties back into a character we know. And how does Dragonball end? With a Tournament, culminating Gokus growth as a martial artist. Not an adventurer. He doesnt go around the world fighting strong people intentionally like Ryu from Street Fighter. All of the best fighters appear in the tournament to fulfill Gokus goal.

And also, personally...after the first tournament, theres less of everyone else and more of Goku than daresay what was going on in DBZ. @lukejones71643 жыл бұрын
OG Dragonball is by far the most overrated part of the DB franchise by way too many Western fans and numerous Western anime hipsters. No, I'm not joking. Its has almost all of the same writing problems as its sequels, less actual character development overall than Z, the anime version has worse animation on average than any of its sequels, etc. Its popular and very hipster to gush about how great OG DB is while trashing Z, even though objectively that makes no sense. Most arguments people make about how much better OG Dragonball is than its sequels are typically hypocritical or just plain false when viewed critically.
@NaughtMax3 жыл бұрын
@@lukejones7164 funny thing, I didn’t trash Z, sometimes people just like what they like there’s no reason to throw a tantrum over it. Preferring the universe and world of DB isn’t going after Z, we just all have preferences in the media we enjoy. But I take issue with people trying to tear others down because they don’t share your tastes as if there’s the objective correct anime opinion. I like Z, but acting all elitist because it’s not my favorite part of dragon ball is hilariously immature and childish. Just calm down and let people enjoy themselves. Someone else’s tastes shouldn’t influence your own enjoyment.

@RobustPhysics3 жыл бұрын
Well, DBZ isn't known for writing female characters very well. I mean, arguably Bulma was decently written, but when you look at others... And the original DB was even worse than in Z. Toriyama, imo, went too far in some scenes. Yeah, it may have been a product of its time, but some of the stuff there was...pretty bad. Stuff like full blown attempts of sexual assault was played for laughs, and some scenes can be pretty uncomfortable to re-read. That said, that is pretty much my only criticism with the original DB. Great fights and great characters like you said, and the non-sexual gags were also a lot of fun. I still enjoy re-reading the manga from time to time, just because I never grow bored with it.

Including the pervy old man character archetype like Roshi and others that thankfully aren't as prevalent today. I think my praising is mainly in it's story and well rounded-ness. Well, i can say for shure that DB is divided in 2 parts. Before Piccolo it is just a comedy, after Piccolo it becomes serious

It's weird that when Dragonball Z or super take a break from the fighting for a comedic episode it feels like filler but in the original Dragonball the comedy is what you come to see.

This makes me happy, I love OG Dragon Ball. I used to watch it super early in the morning as a kid and somehow never made the connection that it was the same Goku when I discovered Z during the Namek saga years later. Going back to Dragon Ball when I was older was an absolute joy!

Also while I love Z more because of all the nostalgia I have for it, I think Dragon Ball is way better.

I'm not crying, you're crying! Honestly though, great stuff. So happy to see you doing Dragonball related material again. I was so excited for the Dragonball series!
