i like how when replacing screws he turns counter clockwise first to find that click where the threads are set. i hate the feeling of cross threading. and he turns the batteries so the brand is facing out. i always feel compelled to do that too.

woah that was a cool trick to get the contacts on the screen to work again.
@BorderlineOCD4 жыл бұрын
Apparently a very common issue with the DMGs and quite easy to repair.

Good to know how its done should I ever have the same issue :)

Wow! This is awesome. You can even add captions along the way to capture your thought process and this becomes a perfect DIY fix video. They're amazingly popular as I'm sure you know.

Excellent video, saw your repair on the Xbox too. You have a wealth of skills and you deserve far more subscribers than you have. Today, you've made one more :)

Nice work! I use the same music, it’s one of my favourite tracks. You should consider showing footage of the actual cleaning process as well :)

Haha! I’ve seen a bunch of your videos and knowing your work I can see why you’d enjoy the cleaning footage. Okay, next time :)

i usually put a little capton tape end some no clean flux and go back and forth with the iron less chances or burning screen ribbon

Nice! You can use some scratch eraser for the lens.
@BorderlineOCD4 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir! Do you have a plastic scratch remover product that you've found success with? I've actually tried a couple in the past (on the glossy shell of the original PS3) and was quite underwhelmed with my results. Two products I've tried are Meguiar's PlastX as well as Nu Finish Scratch Doctor. I'm certainly willing to try another... I'd love to save money on the replacement lenses!
@alaricjeard2694 жыл бұрын
@@BorderlineOCD Any of them will help reduce the scratch. However i'm not surprised that didn't work on a black glossy plastic, this stuff is unforgivable... But on a lens, this 'll do the trick.

what temperature you used when fixing the display lines?
@BorderlineOCD4 жыл бұрын
This project was before I purchased a temperature controlled iron. The cheaper iron I use here doesn't have an adjustable control. These irons usually run hot (400C). If I were to do this project again I would probably use 300C max. Few tips if it helps: As long as you don't stay in one spot you should be good. You barely need to touch the ribbon. If you hover over it and barely touch it while moving the iron it will slowly start to do the job. Finally, wait a few seconds to allow the solder to solidify and see if the connection is bridged. You will continue to see lines while hovering and they slowly disappear once everything solidifies.

If you have some yellowing you can look up a recipe called “retrobrite” will get your case bright and clean (no yellowing) like you bought it from the store.. It’s just hydrogen peroxide and UV light (or the sun)..
@BorderlineOCD4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I actually have a retrobright video on here (another Gameboy DMG). I'm thinking about building some sort of retrobright box for larger items so I can work on a couple of SNES and another Dreamcast I have that's pretty yellow.

Did something in the video make you wonder? :) I'm old enough to have seen the original Game Boy ads on TV and begged my dad to buy me one (he did not).
