Here’s an owner that loves their automobile! True one owner goodness. These automobiles are not easy to own and care for so it takes a special owner/driver to appreciate the 124. Now, it’s showroom and even museum ready. It’s great seeing a different automobile being detailed and that the owner expended the funds to have IAMD do the job…not inexpensive to have these services performed, but worth the “investment”.

@@tomgodheart4557 They are a beautiful automobiles. When Fiats first started landing on US shores, the initial owner/importer understood the car. When they were actually marketed in the US, most new owners never understood what they were purchasing, let alone help to properly take care of them. Too bad as it gave Fiat an unwarranted reputation. If you understand these automobiles you will have a long and fruitful ownership. I still believe that to this date that most buyers of foreign vehicles, and especially exotics, purchase them for the wrong reasons and have no clue of what they own or what’s needed to maintain said automobiles.

@@TheRoadrunner11 try getting an late 80 or newer if you still need to pass smog inspections as we do in California and cant do any changes to engine. The Bosch fuel injection is smoother and more powerful. Auto Ricambi for parts. They know Fiats and are very helpful.
@TheRoadrunner11 Жыл бұрын
@@Tony-hx2fj Thanks! Yes I was wondering about that too. I learned today that the earlier models were all 1.4 L engines so I guess if the larger engines have no downsides, then the1980-1985 models are the ones to go for. I am in Germany and while I am still unsure about the regulations 100%. It seems you can get a historic car license which enables you to drive through even environmental zones in cities without a problem, but you cannot drive more than a couple thousand Kilometers/miles a year. This seems like a solution with my name written all over it! :)

Complimenti ancora 👍👍👍👏👏👏

Excellent work on a beautiful example . Rare to see one in such original condition. I liked the subtle upgrades too, aftermarket rear swaybar, drilled/slotted rotors, aluminum radiator, A.I.R. pump delete and those...Lancia?...wheels.👍
@spiderdriver98902 жыл бұрын
The car is factory smog legal with all the originally fitted parts, including the original catalytic converter. The air pump was lowered to the level of the alternator for 1978. The radiator is a Ron Davis unit that used the original radiator. Cooling was always a challenge, but especially as the car got older. Alarm motion sensors installed in 1979 that can be seen on the right fenderwell. The aluminum timing belt cover was found in a junk yard from what I suspect was an older 124. It replaced the yellow plastic unit. Other than that, the engine bay is OEM original. Other than gaskets, the engine has not been taken apart. The wheels are 14x6 Cromodora CD167s from the 1985.5 Pininfarina Azzurra that were installed in roughly the last 6 months of production. The Azzurra was the very last iteration of the Fiat 124. Just as an aside, the soft top that iam Detailing polished out is the 44 year old OEM unit that is original to the car as well. That was one of the reasons to ask iam Detailing to take on this project. No one else demonstrated any knowledge of how to do this properly and safely.

Great question! The rubber pads on the hood corners and the cowl weatherstrip discolor the opposite contact surface paint over time. Not an issue with a darker colored car. Definitely an issue on a white car.

Spot on. 😎👊🏻🔨 Other than cost, what other factors come into play to determine whether you can dry ice clean a car or not?
@IAMDetailing2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the machine you use, the settings and condition of the material you are blasting. With our machine we can blast almost everything, but some plastic parts are more sensitive than others. Anything like foam we can’t touch. I would say that we can use our dry ice machine on 98% of each car

How do you find a 70's Era Fiat that hasn't rusted into crumbled sections? I bought a 74 in 77 and used two stop signs welded in. The signs were my floor pans and the posts braced the rotted unibody frame on both sides. Fiats arrived at the docks on their way to the dealers already rusting. Same with early Datsun.

@@mfiorito5550 Yes I was at the time. Lots of salted and sanded icy roads. I have a 1972 Triumph GT6 MKIII that was kept garaged and up on blocks every winter. It developed very little rust. I had a 68 GT6 MKI as an every day driver. It rotted out underneath by 1980. That was pretty good for an import car. The 72 MK III is still running today in 2022. Rockers are surface pitted and need replacement.

OK, I'll be the honest one here: 124's were a maintenance nightmare when they were NEW, so no less now. Build "quality" was as variable as a compass surrounded by magnets. Rust occurred in NEW CARS. So the reason why you see so few around is that you could not trade them and had a hard time selling one.

Probably an english car was imported in Italy at the biginning of motorization and its name wass speeder (the car which goes fast). The pronunce was written in italian mode "spider". Do you want a "spider"? No thanks. In England they say "sport car" or "roadster". This misanderstanding goes on today. We in Italy continue to say: "spaider". Instead for the open air cars like Golf or 500 we say: "cabrio". The engine is a 4 cylinders emi twin camme: 1.6 1.8 or 2.0. The difference with the Alfa Romeo is the basement in "ghisa" with space inside for water. Instead Alfa is in "duralluminio" Mg + Al with iron wet cylinders. Red stripes are not original.

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)
