it's amazing that the older one gets how important the sense of smell connects with your memories. I grew up smelling and wearing old spice,aqua velva and brut,and I stopped wearing them in the 1980's because people said they smelled cheap and old man smell. I've recently been wearing them again not only for nostalgic reasons, but for how good they smell.Like it says on the o.s.box... If your grandfather didn't wear it you probably wouldn't be hear

This shave brought back grandfather and father Old Spice shaving memories for me. The smell of Old Spice would fill up the house and as my Dad did it-Frank Sinatra Dean Martin shaving lounge music as he called it. Relaxing and effective. Very emotional for this DE shaver...

Another fantastic shave, Paul. Original Old Spice can't be beat, and it simply oozes nostalgia. I've got several OS mugs but no soap to put in them yet. Would like to get a puck of the old soap for myself, but also to let my grandfather have a go with it,as he hasn't used the soap since the 80's. Amazing how scents can trigger such vivid memories.

Paul, I had to stop the video, run off and smell my bottle of Old Spice, and return. I don't have any of the original, but yes, it seems the new version is a bit sweeter. I wish they dialed back that note and made it a bit darker and woodier. I find that the new stuff lingers pretty long for an aftershave, though, so it's not a weak scent. It appears that, for the U.S. market, Proctor and Gamble produce the stuff in Canada, if that's of interest. Great shave again, your use of the Slim Adjustable in your videos spurred me to go and get one of my own. What a machine! Cheers, and hope your Sunday dinner goes well. Sounds tasty.

Great shave Paul! I personally have not smelled the Original Old Spice, so I'd have to have a sniff of it for certain. You have so many soaps that I don't, I wouldn't be able to make up my mind. I love how you share the stories of your dad and how that scent takes you back. For me it is Barbasol. For some reason it reminds me of my grandfather. Great shave Paul. Recently got into proper wet shaving and it was memories of my Dad shaving with what we think was a Gillette Rocket and splashing the Old Spice as he often prepared to go out for a drink with my uncles (all dressed up to the 9's of course) that inspired me. Yes - I not only would choose the Shulton Old Spice, but I just managed to obtain my own unused OS mug with soap on eBay and definitely looking forward to its first outing. Interesting point about the modern P&G Old Spice. I've heard that Old Spice made in India is much nearer the original - and the good news is it's still made to this day. In fact, a test published by Badger and Blade seems to confirm this, meaning availability of the 'good stuff' should continue for some time! 😃💈
@PaulHFilms7 жыл бұрын
So nice to read this Paul, wet shaving has made a big come back over the last few years, due to people looking back at Fathers shaves etc, cost of modern razors and blades, and also finding there is more choice in wet shaving like this, I think it is a healthier option for the skin too...enjoy the Old spice Original.....fantastic stuff. It is nice we can still buy Old Spice (not original) but great anyway...and may it continue.....all the best and thanks....Paul.

I’ve heard the same about Old Spice from India, although I haven’t tried it yet. I check EBay randomly for the original Shulton OS, and purchase it from time to time. I splashed on some 1988 OS after my shave a couple days ago.

Hey Paul, I wanted to let you know that I took your advice and purchased a Wilkinson Sword Classic razor a few weeks ago. I needed it primarily for travel, and it finally arrived a few days ago. I gave it a go yesterday with the Wilkinson blades and it may have very well been my best shave yet, no cuts at all and truly a great shave. The face feel after was impressive too, it was as if I hadn't just run a razor across my skin. Smooth and very close. I usually use a Merkur with a silver blue blade, but I am actually on the brink of saying that the Wilkinson gave me a better shave. The razor and blades are great and they'll be in my rotation. Great video as always.

Well done, Paul! What did I tell you? Get your hands on the original(!) original stuff, and now I'm so pleased to see you that happy! Do yourself a favour and do not bloom the soap, it's not necessary and the soap/scent lasts a lot longer. The old stuff from the '60/'70s is so strong, I always wet my hands a bit with water and apply just a few drops of the juice, and that way there is absolutely no sting as well. Have a great Sunday, see you on Wednesday, BR, Dan.

I just bought a 2nd quarter 1965 slim in beautiful shape for $20! shaves amazingly well.

Great shave Paul, just love that Old Spice scent. Try getting your hands on Avon Spicy aftershave, very strong scent similar to Old Spice and a lot cheaper on ebay.

Remember the old advert on the TV? The guy surfing and the girl watching him? The voice over was brilliant. " you'll become yourself, you'll find success. The mark of a man" haha.

Yes great adverts they were....good memories Colin.

Hello Paul. Great video! If I could use anything in your shave den, I would definitely try the Old Spice soap and aftershave. I have to honest when I was younger I did not like the smell of Old Spice and now that I'm little older I enjoy the smell.

Thanks Chris, yes a unique scent isn't it....classic. all the best.....Paul.

Hey Paul, nice video as always ! And to answer your question, I've never smelled the original Old Spice, so I'd probably pick it to try it out along with a Slim Adjustable (I love using my Slim Adjustable Aristocrat with a perma-sharp blade !).

I want to thank you again for the recommendation of The Semogue 830, I just Love it. Paul I really would like to see you try a good Horse Hair brush I have a few and they fell like silk on your face. Does Alister have one you can Try ? If not let Me know I will ship one to you.

Thank you very much, nice razor you use with the Old Spice, and glad you like the 830, nice isn't it, I don't think Alistair has a horse hair brush, I may get one just to try at some point, thanks for the offer too, very kind....all the best...Paul.

If I was visiting and was able to choose a soap/cream from your den,I would use the original old spice soap,just to say I've tried it.I thought it went,after shave,E.D.T then cologne.

Good choice, I am aware that this is the order of strength ......Aftershave, Cologne, EDT then EDP...thanks Stephen....have a great week.....Paul.

Good shave Mr Paul....Old Spice=Dad....few things remind me more of him...That's the way I like to shave..Brush to puck to face.."What bowl"..Bowls are for creams in a tube...even then you can apply directly to brush then face...Is the murker progress a similar shave...The flowers are a very passionate red...Beautiful...We are going to swap dinners one day..I'm getting the lamb with mint sauce and your getting the KFC chicken with the strange rolls and mashed potatoes and gravey...lol...I can dream....till the next old spice shave..cheers!

Thank you Bill, swap meals, great idea.....I always imagine American KFC to be far superior to the British one....as it is the home of the brand. all the best and have a great week.....Paul.

Hello Paul, first off absolutly love the vids keep them up sir. I have been de shaving for a couple of months now but i can still only get 2 passes done, if i do a third pass it feels if i am taking a layer of skin off my face, are there any suggestion you could give me please or does the 3rd pass come with time.
@PaulHFilms8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the videos, the third pass is always the most sensitive when your starting out, so apart from good prep, which you are probably doing, the skin just needs time to adjust, maybe try doing a 3rd pass every other shave, see how you get on, a big thing also is use no pressure at all on the razor when shaving, let it do all the work, makes a big difference....all the best....Paul.

Excellent shave with excellent products. Hard to beat the " Goldie Oldie's" as they say. Got a question for ya. Would old spice soap back in the day be a "posh" soap? Or was it an everyday man kind of soap. Anyways have a good week Paul and see you next shave.
@PaulHFilms8 жыл бұрын
Good question, and I expect the answer will be different for many, but in our area, it was either Palmolive or hand soap people shaved with, Old Spice was far cheaper then, but still a sort of luxury soap, which Dad would get say for Christmas etc.

Great shave as always paul. I use a hot towel before every shave. Which razor would you recommend for an adjustable futur or slim. To answer your question as to what products in your den I would love to try that I need to get it would be the futur with wilkinson sword blade shulton old spice soap and alcolado glacial.
@PaulHFilms8 жыл бұрын
Great choice that, in regards to the razor, it depends if you like aggressive or not so aggressive, the Futur is aggressive, the Gillette isn't that aggressive, the Gillette has history, and is superbly built, the Futur modern and heavy.....hope that helps......Paul.
