Isn't Spongebob still in love with Sandy? Even though they never came further than a gag where it seemed that they get married. And I don't watch the newer episodes anymore since they're one-dimensional garbage. The only spongebob stuff worth watching are the movies. PS: Though for the fanon side, I ship my favorite sponge with Pinkie Pie. Pretty blatant right? They are perfect for each other: Both are happy, optimistic, fun-loving characters who have a heart of gold, love making other smile, break occasionally the fourth wall, can regenerate from virtually anything, were heroic and entertaining protagonists in awesome movies, can be extremely annoying, are rarely angry or despondent but even THEY have their breaking points. (but if they do, it's pretty hilarious like when Squidward lost his job and in an act of sympathy, Spongebob took him but it went awry when Squidward began to "sponge" (no pun intended) in a pretty brash but funny way and this for months. He was so mad that he demanded of Mr. Krabs to rehire Squidward and when he refused he literally chocked and chewed him out. The german version was super funny) And they are fricking OP through toon force. The only difference is the very nature of their shows. With all the arcs and serious foes "My little pony" seems to be serialized while "Spongebob SquarePants" is episodic. The former blessed them with character development while the latter infected them with flanderization. I haven't watched MLP (yet. I still will) but despite her ditzy behavior, Death battle described Pinkie as pretty smart for memorizing the names, addresses and birth names of every citizen of Ponyville, while Spongebob got unfortunately dumber and dumber to an loathsome level. This means the MLP characters got spared from obnoxious oversimplification. So I would rather ship pre-movie Spongebob with Pinkie Pie than post-movie.

Well, the last sort of SpongeBob x Sandy moment was in Sponge on the Run movie and it's understandable when Tim Hill, the guy who initially suggested that idea to Hillenberg was one of movie writers. As for the show, clear hints ended after season 1, as for the stage wedding in s6 10'th anniversary special it was more of a clickbait and trolling of the shippers(considering how big of a event the commercials made it up). I'm actually surprised the writers still remember about Krabs and Puff being a thing and making an episode revolving them in newest season 14
