Yeah, it was something I could not let slip away and Erick was very great to both offer it and work with me on the price! I have never had anyone lower the price of an offer before! He knew I would really enjoy having it and he was right! I think when they released it originally it did not do very well outside of Japan as nobody knew what it was outside of Japan. I think over the years the styling become more accepted and once the released the Fire and Thunder dragons on the TS chassis it made sense to bring it back on that chassis to match them. I am glad you enjoyed it and I will get it out for a spin around the yard at some point and will do a run video of it then.

Don't feel bad for shelfing it only, without collectors and creator's like you the history of these would be lost you have an amazing collection of rc history now let alone 5 to 10 yrs from now your workshop will be comparable to Jay Lenos garage but for rc cars that's preserved history right there 👊

Until then I am more than happy to have my little Jay Leno garage of RC!!! I will get it out eventually for a run and I will record it. I know eventually I will cave in and run it to say I have driven that chassis around. If it were one I have driven already I would not have put the receiver in it and left it for the shelf 100%. I know myself and at some point I will have to run it around, just is not the right time now! Take care Mark and thanks as always for the support and the smiles!

LOVE it mate! 😍 What a cool asset to the collection Addam. I enjoyed Keith's videos on the madcap/saint dragon very much, and as you probably know by now, the vintage stuff/nostalgia really floats my boat! One thing that really bugs me about Tamiya is when they re re a model and put it on a totally different chassis!!!! 🙄 The 're re' saint dragon isn't that at all.... Its just a saint dragon shell on a thunder shot chassis, it really grinds my gears! 🤣 But, this just makes the original that you have there that bit more special as far as I'm concerned. Having such a rare car in such great condition is a top score, and it should be cherished (and it certainly sounds like you are on the same wavelength mate!) 😉 Madcap/OG saint dragon parts are so hard/impossible to source as 'new old stock' now..... as far as I'm concerned that thing needs to be shelved and preserved! If it was me I would search hard for as long as it takes to see if you can get hold of replacement parts for the areas that are slightly scratched and make it totally mint! It would be such a shame to take it out for a drive and risk damaging it, which can easily happen even with a light grass run when the plastics are that old/brittle! When we all have so many other similar cars that can be run, why bother running something so special? But hey, that's just my two cents..... and everyone gets pleasure out of different sides to this hobby. Sorry Brad, I'm with Addam on this one! 🤣 Cool video mate, loving this type of content. 👌 👍 👍 👍 👍

Thank you! I am super happy to have it and it is one I thought I might not ever get my hands on, especially in this condition! Everything just kind of fell into place and I am over the moon with it! I think the main reason for the re-re of the Saint Dragon on the TS chassis was convenience. The Fire and the Thunder Dragon were already released on the TS chassis so adding the Saint to it was nothing more than moving the body mount holes in the shell. I believe that is why they changed up the design of the decals so much to also help differentiate the two even more. I think the original is a much better looking design as it looks low and sleek and the re-re is a bit more bulky and bulbus on the TS. I will probably get this one out for a light run in the grass, just enough to say I drove it and then it will get retired for good. It just has to be at the right time for me and now is not the right time. Everything for the last 4 or 5 months has been go-go-go so I want it to be at a time where I am relaxed and can really savor the one run it will get. I don't want to feel rushed or be rushing while doing it, if that makes any sense. I agree the hobby has something for every person... collecting, bashing, speed, slow, land, water, air, replicas, miniatures... you name it and you can get it or build it to the way you want and that is very rare in a hobby! Take care my friend and have a great rest of your weekend!

LOL, every time I start filming the darn A/C or Furnace comes on! I guess you are farther away from the A/C in the new studio? I film in my basement studio and I'm right next to both units. These Saint Dragons are pretty neat. I need to look into building a few of the more budget minded Tamiya's. RC Icons has a crazy collection.
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
It was warm in there when I went out to shoot the video. I had not been out there but for a few minutes here and there for the last couple weeks. In the basement workspace I don't have to worry about much noise other than the main plumbing line right where I am! So the occasional toilet flush may have to get edited out (some have not). The only noisy thing is the dehumidifier I have running down there but I turn that off before filming. The OG Saint Dragon is a cool buggy and one I was not sure I'd ever get but things fell into place and it all worked out perfectly. I am super happy to have gotten it and to finish out the Dragons!! There a bunch of cool Tamiya kits out there for under $150. Since you live on a paved street there are tons of the TT02 kits for not a lot of money and then there is a decent selection of off road for under the $150 mark.

I agree, the original is more canted forward and has more a classic feel. I understand why they did the re-release of it on the TS chassis since the Fire and Thunder dragons both came out on that chassis. @AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
Thank you, it in fantastic shape and I am very lucky! I guess they wanted it to be similar but different from the original. They kept the body nd the theme but changed the decals to be something different. A story pops into my head, hang in there for a sec.... A valiant warrior, the Saint dragon has battled many enemies and and lived a glorious life. Unfortunately time has caught up to the old dragon and it is the one fight he cannot win and it is time for him to leave. The legends true that the dragon never dies, they only shed the lifeless bodies and reform into a new creature. This time the Saint Dragon is reborn into a new version of itself and has cast off its blue markings for fiery red ones and is now twice as powerful and twice as agile as it was previously. This newly formed Saint Dragon will continue to fight for good in his new form and appearance but still has a bit of the elder dragon along with him forever.... I know corny and silly but that may be the reason they changed the colors... LOL!!

And yes, what a difference to the new version... This is such a fresh rwd, it looks really nice! Those front tyres are fantastic, and the black dish wheels are awesome! I went and subscribed to Eric's channel, didn't watch his videos yet, but looks like content I'll be interested in.

Yeah, new/old scenery right? It is a new video actually, I had intended to switch back and forth from time to time but it has just been so busy it was easier to leave everything in one place! I went out mainly because all the other dragon cars were out there and it had been a while since videoing out there! I will try to switch it up from time to time going forward. I am going to start on the Hilux build soon I think and I will set that one up out on that workbench so I am nibble at it a little bit at a time and not have to worry about it taking up all the space! I really am super happy with the new/old Saint Dragon and thought I might never get one but dumb luck and good people made it fall into place and I am over the moon! It is great shape and I will probably get it out for a light drive at some point but I am in no hurry. I will savor it as is for now! I am sure you will enjoy Ericks channel and content, he is growing and has lots of good stuff coming in the future!

Great find mate . I was researching these tamiyas history as I heard they were from a manga. RADICON BOY! 😂 Might change my name to that . I think these vintages are worth shelving tbh . We have the re re to thrash 😊👍

Thanks Dom! I have gone down the rabbit hole of trying to learn more and the deeper I dug the more I got confused which came first in the story line. I love the quirky sci-fi look of them though. I agree that the old fellas can sit on the shelf and the young ones I can take out rough up without worries!! Have a great week Radicon Boy!!

Oh wow, not too many survived the hands of kids back then! That is awesome you still have it! None of my toys made it out alive unfortunately! I was an only child and lived back here in the woods so it was me, the toys and an overactive imagination to keep me entertained so everything got worn out and broken over the years! I would really love to still have a few things though!!
@BjørnOlavBullFinstad Жыл бұрын
@@AddamsPlayground Not many of mine neither, i would usually screw them apart as soon as i got my hands on them, and love to bash them in walls. So its a miracle this one survived. This was the first rc building set i have had, it was my dad and I that put it together(mostly my dad 99%😂) maybe thats why the urge to screw it apart wasnt there. it is not in mint condition and it needs a little tlc. And the paint job is done by 9 year old me😅

@@BjørnOlavBullFinstad I was always taking things apart to see how they worked also. Sometimes they still worked when I put them back together! LOL! Yeah the Dragon series cars are often a take it or leave it type of thing. I was not much on them at all growing up and it wasn't until I got the Thunder Dragon that I really liked them and then after that I was hooked! I do like the odd and quirky one a lot more now. It is funny how over the years my ideas and likes about the hobby have changed a ton.

It is a cool buggy and a good looking one as well! I am very surprised they have not re-released it yet with some updated plastics. Maybe one of these days. I would love one to be able to drive around without the fear of snapping $150 worth of super hard to find parts! LOL!
@michaeldorich4485 Жыл бұрын
That is a great find. I am glad you found it. It seems to make you very happy. I like the red decals better. When you put something like that on the shelf, do you have to put the tires in a bag to preserve them since they are so rare?
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am over the moon as I thought this might not ever happen. I have looked a few times and everything I found was either a tattered mess or was very overpriced! I like the way this all went down and it feels like it was meant to be! I do like the red better but I think think they went with the blue on the re-re to match the blue suspension parts of the Thunder Shot chassis. I think they were going for the theme of it and not trying to copy it since it was on a whole other chassis. It feels nice to be able to close the chapter on the dragon series, very rewarding feeling. I will probably put a coating on silicone on them after I take it out for a light run and keep them up off the shelf like I do on all my cars to help preserve them. These are not terribly prone to dry rotting badly so they should hold up fine with a little care. The studs on the fronts just don't last very long and it is hard to find them in good shape so they fetch a real premium!

I’m not a saint dragon fan but I do like the mad cap.. I guess I just like more realistic looking cars
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
I completely understand! I never liked them at all until much later and once I got one I was hooked. I love the classic cars and even the more modern ones but there is something about the odd and quirky ones I am drawn to now. I'd say I probably will never have a Mad Cap but at this point it seems anything is a possibility! LOL! This one was right place, right time, right people type of thing for it to all work out!

You know the madcap is similar to another car that was on a higher level and you can put a slipper clutch on it.

Hey Addam. I have a OG Saint dragon chassis and I think most of the red parts.. As you said in the video, chassis prices are crazy for this one.. so uhm.. what should I charge for it, I have no interest in a og saint dragon, and are just trying to clean out excess stuff.. Great video by the way.. I didn't know anything about the Dragons, and the history why the dragon are "so far" from stardard "realistic" design is really cool to know.. :D
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
The Dragon series cars are not for everyone and the Saint Dragon is probably the least desirable of the lot by most. Pricing is always tricky as it depends on many things. In really nice condition to perfect condition they can go for around $300-500 but there has to be a buyer looking for one also. I have noticed a bit of drop in prices overall in the last few months but not enough to impact you too much, it just may take a bit longer to find a buyer. Many of them get purchased and turned into Madcaps as well so that does increase your chances. I am terrible at pricing but should give you some info.

Hi Addam, have you noticed that many online hobby shops seem to be having sales. For example, your limited edition blue Clod Buster was on sale at Tower Hobbies. It was $30.00 off plus a free Tactic radio too. I am not sure if it is still on sale, but I think that was a good price. Yes, I did buy one. I could not resist a good deal when I see one. Are you seeing many sales online too? If yes, I wonder why? Thoughts?
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
Hey there! I did see the sale on the Clod, I posted it on my community page when it came out! I have seen a few things getting prices slashed really deeply and a lot of sales in general. I have seen the brushless drag cars from Losi and Associated but are down to around $200 which is a deal! I think the giant boom in RC is slowing down. I think there was a huge boom in it from the hole CVD crisis and people were both buying new and digging out old ones to run. The market expanded very fast and everyone was able to charge a premium and sell things as fast as they could get them in stock. I think things are slowing down and places are flooded with stock and things that were very hot have simmered down a lot. That is the only reason I can really think for some of these great sales.
@alfredyost7972 Жыл бұрын
@@AddamsPlayground I agree. I also think that there might be one more reason. I think the economy is slowing down. People are buying less R/C cars because of a weak economy. Thoughts?

Almost all of them have been driven at least once. I have a few I have not driven and at this point I doubt I will. I have my small collection of bashers cars and trucks I prefer to drive and beat on to preserve the others. Yeah the vintage ones do not come up too often and when they do they often go for quite a bit as it is the same chassis as the Mad Cap. Many get converted into the Mad Cap is it is a more popular buggy. I am super lucky to have gotten this and it is quite different than the re-release on the Thundershot chassis.
