I love your commentary throughout the ride. My great grandfather built the ride in 1915. It was a hard decision for my family to sell the ride to the State Fair. I have amazing memories of working on the ride all summer long to get it ready for 12 days of FUN!!!!

Me too. It took me years to realize they called it the tunnel of love because teens would sneak kisses and touching when they went through the darkness. LoL I always thought it was supposed to be lovey dovey stuff but they called it "tunnel of love" because ppl would make their moves while on the ride

Went to the state fair for the first time (I’m 51) and my best friend said we had to go on this - because it’s so cheesy and nostalgic! And - DARK! Insanely dark. Your narration was classic! You sounded like Andy Bernard from The Office - awesome! The funniest part was watching a man get out of the boat in front of our boat and readjusted his pants/zipper. And - from then on everything was “ye olde...”

We had one here in New Jersey , and it was pretty old also. Then they built a huge castle dark ride over it, and called it Dracula’s castle. The tunnel of love then turned into the dungeon ride dark ride. Unfortunately it burned down almost 10 years ago and with the fire, also took the old mill ride. It’s good to see what it looked like before it turned into dungeon dark ride. Ty!

Watching an old episode of the Honeymooners and they were talking about going thru "the tunnel of love". I'm a child of the 70s so have certainly heard this reference before but never knew the history or much about it. The ride was much better when the family had it before they sold it to the fair it's self. The boats were wood, no annoying music. The loading ramp wasn't Continuous like it is now and the paddle wheel was alot faster.

@@Wellch I was born in a small town here in Brazil, similar in size to the town where Mark Knopfler grew up. In my city, every year, in the month of September, an amusement park was set up, which participated in a traditional festival in the city. In the park there were all the toys and amusements that he mentions in the song Tunnel of love, except the "tunnel of love" itself. :) I never had seen one like that here in Brazil. That`s why I didn't know him.

An excuse to be in a boat with some hottie and excuse to smooch. The ride upon which many boat rides at theme parks are based.

the dioramas were weird. the boats were yellow and crudly built with lumber. it was awesome. And then some asshole pours dish soap and creates a bubble disaster and it shuts down for a couple days. the minnesota state fair is a great state fair.
