I can't thank you enough for this! I opened up my duke controller to switch out the thumsticks only later to find out it doesn't respond at all. I followed the steps in this video and had the exact same problem with the red wire breaking near the base. Soldered everything together and my 20 year old controller is back to working! Just fixed a ‘supposedly working’ controller from eBay. Seller offered to take it back but I’d have to pay shipping so I’d still be out. I think he thought I wanted a full refund because he said he tested it and it was working. When I used it and moved the cord, it would disconnect and I found your video and simply fixed it. Thanks!

Dude you literally just saved our Xbox controller! We've had to wiggle the cable for years now, with it still cutting out randomly during gameplay. It turned out that the red cable had burned out and damaged the other cables, but after following this video everything works now! Thank you so much for making this video!

Spot on. The red wire on mine was weak and mostly broken so i did what you did and it works fine now. Being a reseller that just wants a quick fix to get a flip out asap, this helped me out tremendously. Thank you

why not put some heat shrink on that be for you solder and then wrap the the part you you cut in new braided line and then wrap that in tesa tape? Rather then that ugly looking thing

I'll probably sacrifice one of the three controlles that came with the old Xbox for the cable. That way I can still use the Strain relief and some heatshrink to cover the solderpoints. If I only had one, this would be the way to go.

You can use a USB cable as it's standard USB, but with an adapter to fit the Xbox port. I do have generic controllers with cables, they seem to be a lot better than the official ones in regards to fraying.

I had a problem where both A buttons are unresponsive turns out to be the black tape not conducting properly. Ordered some conductive silicon rubber pads. So you can remove that tape 👍

You mean the flux? That is flux paste. You can get all kinds of different flux. Mine is more like a syrup.

The controller does work but it keeps giving a "left" command all the time without touching the + shaped thing on the left. Pushing it right makes it go right but if I let go it goes left again.
