Original Xbox Controller Cord Replacement & Repair

Quick Tutorial on how to take apart the Original Xbox S controller, remove the old broken cord, and replace with the new full size replacement with breakaway by Game Room Customs.

I had a 1st party controller with a bad cord ( it disconnected when you moved it making the xbox throw a nag message) So i soldered on a usb cord and i chose to cut the wires after the white connector, soldered a just heat shrunk it. Forced tge wire through the original grommet. Used that special windows driver, it made for a good controller for emulation.

Great video. Thanks for putting this together. I looked at my controller and suspected de-soldering might be needed to remove that white junction with the individual wires. Your video confirmed that for me! Now, I just need to try to solder for the first time....

I bought a cord from your Ebay store. Right now it has a zip tie around the cord pinching it to work. I like how you sell bulk orders of 10. I was going to make a video, untill I seeing you made your own video. This is easier than cutting and soldering the wires, and a professional repair. Anyone selling refurbished controllers needs to replace the whole cord. You can also reuse the wires in a old cord to solder onto the motherboard to fix a broken trace for free.

I got it installed. Like you said removing the solder is the hardest part. The cord is the same length as the original which is nice. I made a video.

would this process be similar for the duke controllers? I brought my old xbox out of storage to find the duke that came with it dead. my S controllers are fine, but there's something about the fat controllers
