Keep in mind, if you're doing this mod I'd *highly* recommend this as a temporary measure so you can use the burned disc tools for TSOP flashing or modchipping so you can upgrade the hard drive and FTP games to your console and bypass the disc drive altogether as it's not going to last much longer. Every game is available online under the HDD ready pack.

Mine is that too. It's got one potentiometer on the back of the laser mechanism, so you do it from the bottom with the disc drive flipped upside down and the main PCB pulled out (the ribbon cable removed from the laser mechanism is easy) Mine read about 1k ohm. I reduced it to 830 but that's only temporary for the softmod which then it won't be necessary as I'll have a large HDD installed for FTPing games.

I have trouble reading the Halo games on my second hand Xbox. Halo CE reads about 50% of the time, Halo 2 about 20%. So i cleaned the laser, didn't help. When i checked with a multimeter, the pot had a value of 1,231 Ohms. So i lowered it to about 1,090 (0.141 Ohms less than before). Pretty much same result as before. BUT i ordered a copy of Doom 3 (great game btw), and it reads EVERY SINGLE TIME. What should i do? All 3 games have a pretty much scratch-free disc. If Doom reads all the time, is there something wrong with the Halos?

It's pretty hard to show on camera due to the size of the legs for the potentiometer. You just measure across from one side to the other. Google a picture of a potentiometer and you'll see the legs up a little closer. After you see the legs in the picture and then look at the Xbox drive, you should be all squared away. From that point you're just going to slightly turn the potentiometer until you see the resistance values on it start to drop. Without having one in front of me I'm unsure which way you turn it off the top of my head. But your meter will tell you. If the resistance values go up, you're going the wrong way. You want to bring them down an ohm or 2.

It ranges anywhere from 8 or so down to 1 kilo ohm. So in the video when I say it's down to 2, it means 2 kilo ohms which is equal to 2000 ohms. You always want to try to stay above 3, but sometimes you just have to go down that low.

Yeah my Xbox is the same one that you have but I have one potentiometer not two so it’s not reading disc either so I adjusted the laser to 1.768 but you said 1.860 would this work for me or do I need to tweak it to 1.860 to read the original Xbox games

Is this a tutorial or just showing your process caus if it is a tutorial ita horrible. There is no way to watch this and be able to do this yourself. All i know is you adjusted it to 1.86. I don't know why or what that number represents or why that is the number. No way to tell where you are placing your leads, you don't mention what you have your multimeter to measure. I am guessing ohns since it is a potentiometer but dont know what setting on the multimeter to use
@H4CkGAMiNG712 Жыл бұрын
The disc drive us unplugged so I doubt we're measuring voltage or amperage. A potentiometer is measured in ohms. There's only 3 legs on the potentiometer. Measure across any of the 2. I'm showcasing how to adjust the pot in your Xbox. Not teaching potentiometer 101. 1.86 is in kilohms. Potentiometers for lasers are set from the factory at around 1.9 to 2.1 kilohms (1900 to 2100 ohms). Basic understanding of a pot could have helped you understand a little better prior to commenting. Everyone else has been able to understand it in the years it's been posted. Go troll somewhere else.
