Growing up i would toss exoida in every deck i had this masked hero deck in high school with lots of draw prower and drew all 5 kids 90% of the time and when i didn't i just had dark law and mirror force and had 2 random pendulum cards to maybe get a free masked change 😂 it would of lost in a competitive dule but in high school duels i was undefeated and no one even wanted to play since my whole plan was to draw the 5 hardest cards to draw or beat them down with darklaw

Yu-Gi-Oh! is just Yu-Gi-Oh! to me until you get past synchro summons. I've learned to like XYZ since I've been back but Pendulmns and on broke the game to me. Once it got to the point that people were casually searching their deck and special summons were more natural than normal summons it became something else. It went from poker to solitaire.

Yeah, the main problem with modern Yu-Gi-Oh is the amount of time each turn takes due to the possibility of every card being responded to (even if it isn't). But if you just play casually, where you don't need to ask every time you are doing a move, it works well. This is a problem that is obviously exaggerated with MD as well. Tbh, Yu-Gi-Oh was never a card game that adapted well into the digital setting because you could literally respond with every card being played (instead of responses being locked into a certain part of the turn) and sometimes it's really important to wait with the response.

After like a 10 or so year break I initially got back into Yu-Gi-Oh when Pendulums had their own zones and I wish they' bring that back.

they cant balance it without the link zone requirements. however, they have and are printing cards that let you pendulum summon twice per turn. thats scary enough if you ask me.

Maybe some day they will separate them again (the scales from the S/T zones)… I think it would be a lot more interesting to have them separated but w/ MR5 rulings. It would give Pen players a buff but not to much of one to a point. I remember MR3 was the funnest format that I have tried. However, it got kinda boring in tournaments because every single opponent was either running pendulums or zoodiac. Pendulums I was able to have a nice back forth with. Zoodiac on the other hand, was negate everything(kinda like pendulums nowadays). But I personally think that’s the most fun I have had In yugioh ever. I run casual decks(such as Dinomist, OG SuperHeavy, OG Salamangreat, and the latest one being a budget copy of Rhyme’s Pre-Branded Thunder Sacred Beasts). Also I’m currently working on building fluffal / frightfur.

@@Honest_Mids_Masher I agree, most of pendulums best support is currently banned in TCG (Astrograph Sorcerer, Supreme King Starving Venom, Double Iris, Heavy Metaphoes Electrumite, etc.) However, on the plus side Electrumite is at 1 in Master Duel.

I don't know where this falls but my favorite version of Yu-Gi-Oh is the GX era. You have the normal set two pass, but you also have the Poly options and few cards that special summon. It feels like a healthy balance of back and forth and easily getting boss monsters.

Honestly i agree with the GX statement. It wasnt as extreme and insane as current meta YGO is today. But it also isnt as slow as the really early starter decks where its just ``set one card, pass`` which is boring. To me aswell it has that perfect balance because of the poly options. But yeah its an era (besides GOAT format) we will never get back.

I love goat format as a classic format. But honestly to me the game peaked 2015-2017 when we had rock paper scissors formats, except every counter had max 60% win rate. (Kozmo, BA, Monarch example). And additionally we had a dozen rogue decks that could all stand a chance against the big 3.

Eddison+ formats. "Original yugioh" is fun in draft. But competetive is boring to me. Due to the limited card pool a lot of decks boil down to the same 11 staple cards + whatever else they're using. You'll always see D.D Warrior lady, Sangan, Tsukuyomi, pot of greed, BLS ect. I prefer the later on formats due to how varied the decks can be.

Edison format, easily. Edison has the right amount of speed, balance and variety of viable decks that you get to experiment with, while still having that back and forth with your opponent throughout the game. GOAT is fun and all but after a dozen games of topdecking and seeing the same old cards, it gets a bit stale. And modern Yugioh.. Well, yknow.
