Better way to attach the desk top to the top of the drawers, is to lay the desktop on the floor with the good side on the floor. Lay the top of the drawers on top of the desk piece, use a flash light to see the holes. Screw pieces together, now attach to the desk and secure the lock mechanisms. Hope that makes sense. We worked backwards

To finally get the holes to align, I used a toothpick and inserted it in the hole of the drawers and then moved the top around until I found the correct hole in the top that matched. PROBLEM. The screws would not screw all the way through, leaving about 1/2” hanging out. I had noticed that the holes in the desk top were NOT as large as the holes in the desk. I’m sure that’s part of the problem. I guess I’ll VERY DELICATELY us my drill to try to deepen the holes in the top - but first I’m going to call IKEA to advise them of the problem. Yes, that part of the assembly was a pain in the ass! Everything else was a piece of cake.

I have a much easier way. First I laid the desktop down on the ground, bottom side facing up. Then I just removed the top panels of the drawers from the main sections and then attached the those top panels to each end of the desktop. Then I just placed the entire top portion back onto the bases and secured everything back in place. Works perfectly. I have no idea why IKEA thought it would be better to try lining up all those holes while half sitting inside the drawer unit when you can't even see anything.

Loved your video. My girlfriend and I assembled it exactly as you show. BUT, after we got the large bottom drawer on, the next large drawer did not fit in! We could get a small drawer on but then there was a gap! We now are arranging for an Ikea representative to come in. This is the 1st time EVER, I have been unable to build an IKEA product. This is a fantastic and very organized company. I'm so glad we have an IKEA store in Ottawa.

@@AstroVX1 there is an actual flaw in the construction. You will not be able to fix it. I called IKEA and they came over and assembled it for free. It is not your fault.

After much frustration, my partner and I just took the two tops of the drawers off. Screwed that to the tabletop to make sure it was secrured and then realigned the tops together since that was easier to see. However everyone does it. Good Luck and happy building.

I buildt the drawers uppside down aswell and then now when I’m done I noticed I put the bottom peice of the drawer on the top. Now I need to switch them out because in the instructions it literally Said to put these plastic things on the peice with holes in that protect the floor but the peice with holes are actually meant for secuering the lagkapten board.

@@Kaelleonm4913 after I got mine, putting it together, then I found out that the biggest difference is what they make them of, which also sets the price zone. Another big difference is, some have more depth, Lagapten is 23 3/8" from 47 1/2 L to 78 5/8". Rodulf is 31 1/2 deep, and yes, you're right, Linnmon is 39 5/8", it does look like that's the only size. But others go all the way up to 78 3/4", with various lengths under one name. So I was wondering if the one in the video is a special set to go with two Alex drawers, mine has the mounting holes, but I don't want it permanent like that. The big difference is, they have different materials, bamboo, veneer, and the one that is just painted looking. I found out on Reddit that there are totally hollow types, others with just the pre drilled set up in particle board where screws go, and one type looks like an accordion of wood, or cardboard maybe, inside.

They made the lagkaptan impossible to line up perfectly with the drawers they need a better solution than just blindly guessing where the holes are. Lining up the holes was the hardest part
