@@beastmasterbg Am guessing cause people paint GW as nerds with models old troupe, but yes it's very underrated www.blacklibrary.com if you want to get into the books
@NoobMicesters3 жыл бұрын
@@beastmasterbg warhammer books are written by a collection of authors and published to the black library. Id say the reason 40k is underrated is due to 2 main factors: 1) im gonna get a lot flak if anyone sees this but in reality its just over over over the top star wars/halo etc its the same genre but goes too far as its main point. Which means if youre already hyper invested into lets say star wars it just from your perspective becomes a silly over the top joke And 2) WH40K itself comes from the board game. With models and building and painting, which isnt for everyone. And its expensive, so it means the main core focus of 40k is based around something that less than most would be interested in.

Not genetically. No gene-tampering really happens, here. The gene-seed helps the body grow, as well as accept the new organs, but even those organs are artificial in nature, transplanted into them, rather grown in them. They are transhumanist, yes, but not gene-edited.

As a non-40K fan, here’s what I know about this: - The projectile firearms used are bolters. They use .75 caliber rounds, which are rocket propelled with quad solid fuel boosters, and have explosive charges. That they straight-up turn targets to mist is entirely normal. - The space marines are heavily augmented humans, like halo’s spartans, but taken to an extreme (this progression is pretty standard for W40K). Multiple redundant organs, extensive mechanical implants, etc. - After you see the space marines absorbed by the sparkly light ball, what you’re seeing is them traveling through the Warp. The warp is W40K’s version of FTL travel, except that it also happens to be a dimension of eternal eldritch horror and torment. Like if Star Trek’s subspace was the home of everything Cthulhu would consider a fear-worthy cosmic horror, and the Federation chose to use it for a highway anyways. Stats are mostly vague, but word is that W40K Warp travel CAN have up to a 10% lethality rate.

The best thing about the Astartes series is that the Space Marines do genuinely come across as these giant, unstoppable badasses that the lore tells us they are. The figures just don't reflect that these are a super-mega elite force of beings so genetically modified that they're barely human. Same with their weapons; an ordinary person would not be able to handle them. And it captures that dark, gritty and brutal atmosphere that is exactly how I've always imagined 40k to be.

"If there were an army of those guys they'd be like, unstoppable." Hahahaha-no. Sorry, those guys were actually on the incredibly weak end of the power-scale for their kind. (Known as Psykers.) This helps to explain why the Beakie and Mr.Capeman (a decorated veteran of this Chapter of Space Marines, Possibly 1st Sergeant) were so quick to put down the Acolyte/Agent (the guy in the cloak who was 'praying' to the orb.) was because he was signifcantly more capable in base ability and training than the ones in the masks with mechanical spines (a Psychic Hood). Said agent wasn't some form of traitor- well, not in the way you meant. In 40k, to be capable of Sorcery is to be in some way able to manipulate the warp, which is a seperate but connected plane of existence formed entirely out of the emotions and beliefs of living things, and inhabited by primordial creatures with primordial urges and corruptive capabilities. The agent lost control of his defences either by loss of personal attention/control or by force and IMMEDIATELY had his soul eaten and his body possessed by a Daemon. A highly capable Psyker is fully capable of wreaking havoc on the scale of planets and -possibly- solar systems if they don't have to worry about getting their soul eaten. Space Marines themselves, actually have Psykers in the form of Librarians. To get an adequate understanding of the scale of Warhammer, you need to understand that Space Marines, for all their bullshit by our understanding, are the bog standard of this universe. they are the base level requirement an individual has to be in order to stand up to most enemy factions in the setting. The imperial Guard die in the hundreds of thousands to the millions in a single day of battle for the sole purpose of holding the line, and win more often than not through attrition rather than a strategic victory. Full planets are rendered lifeless or outright destroyed because in many cases, that is simply a better outcome than ceding it to the enemy, be they Orks, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Tyranids, or worst of all, Chaos. (or the dirty space communist weebs.)

Fun fact: The standard issue "rifle" for the Astarte's, The Bolter, is chambered in a .75 calibre. It basically looks like a massive M433 grenade and is a fraction of the explosive force. That's how you see all those soldiers getting ripped apart by the guns with a mere shot. (I originally said a quarter, but looking through everyone's comment on this one, I changed it to a fraction, because in the lore of the Bolter, it was stated that it did have some explosive within the bolter rounds.)

“Quarter of the explosive force” there is not actually any lore about how strong the bolts are. Writing has them anywhere from blowing a guy in half to killing him and several dudes around him. Considering we could easily do that with modern explosives in a .75 shell, I’m leaning towards it being anti-squad level power. The only reason grenade launchers aren’t like that is expensive of such explosives and difficulty of using a fuse for it in such a frame reliably. The Imperium would have no such issues for Astartes armament.

Absolute minimalist description of every 40K tabletop army: Imperial Dudes - Worship the god emperor Space marines/astartes - The sort of genetic supersoldier that captain america wishes he was. Come in many flavours. Imperial Guard/astra militarum - Basic human soldiers who can be anything from a stone age tribal with an axe to a highly trained specops paratrooper with high end body armour and a laser gun. Stormtroopers/Tempestus Scions - Like the guard boys but better in every conceivable way. Sisters of Battle/Soritas - Crazy killer nuns in power armour. Imperial knights - You dig giant robots, I dig giant robots, fair maidens dig giant robots forsooth. Adeptus Mechanicus - Imagine an engineer who is convinced machines are an extension of god. Who has alzheimers and thus has forgotten half of what he used to know. Adeptus Custodes - The sort of genetic supersoldier that space marines wish they were. Also come with their own posse of anti-magic hot bitches who have a thing for topknots. Chaos Dudes - Worship a bunch of gods from another dimension who are really into mutating people and causing chaos. Chaos Space marines - Basically space marines but with added mutations and more infighting. Also come in numerous flavours. Rebel guard and such are present in lore but don't get any tabletop funtimes except as meatshields for chaos marines. Chaos knights - Basically imperial knights but with more whacky stuff and infighting. Daemons - Demons. Alien dudes - Do alien stuff Tau - Space weeb communists Eldar/Aeldari - Space elves of the high fantasy sort Dark Eldar/Drukhari - Space elves who need to torture people to continue living. Fortunately for them they also derive an erotic thrill from it. Orkz - ORKZ ORKZ ORKZ ORKZ ORKZ ORKZ ORKZ! A collection of memes and 80s football hooligans Necrons - Space egyptians who basically went to war with the galaxy in the distant past, sort of won then took a nap to dodge the consequences. Sold their souls to preserve their minds in robot bodies, this was a bad idea. Tyranids - Bugs. Eat everything. Genestealer cults - What happens when bugs send bugs to infect your populations genepool. Harlequins - Space elf clowns. Bazinga. Theres a few others but they're basically irrelevant. Many more in lore who are even more irrelevant. ~EDIT~ Ok so few things to answer other questions. One: Space marines are human. Just augmented through a lengthy, dangerous and difficult process of genetic and surgical augmentation. Multiple organs are grown and implanted alongside a program of genetic modification. By the end the basic astartes is about 8 foot tall, has an extra heart, a predigestive stomach, can go without sleep for months at a time among many other things. Two: Robe boy. He was part of a group called the inquisition, who basically handle all sorts of shit. Probably an inquisitor. Generally space marines are not on friendly terms with them but some chapters are the opposite. He was also pretty obviously what is called a "psyker" basically a guy who can crazy psychic bullshit powers that are powered by another dimension called "the warp" which is also where the chaos gods live. Using psyker powers is very dangerous and requires considerable training, conditioning and proper equipment to do so with any degree of safety. That being said the Empire is heavily reliant on psykers for various purposes. What happened to him by the look of it is that he lost focus when he signalled something to the space marine next to him and that loss of focus let the big orb alien thing hijack his mind (or try to). The space marines response of basically punching his head to paste and shooting him repeatedly was a very reasonable and subdued response as psyker stuff going wrong is a great way to find yourself dealing with a rift into the warp that shits out copious quantities of demons. Three: Real world military tactics don't work too well in 40K. Its a setting where melee combat is common and the empire mainly uses WW2 era tactics for its basic human forces. If you're lucky they're using German or British tactics. If you're unlucky its Russian. Space marines meanwhile do their own thing. Typically surgical strikes on key elements of the enemy force in a warzone. Lot of them prefer melee combat where a space marines advantages can often overwhelm other forces. Different groups (challed "chapters") of space marines have their own specialities and preferences. Also fun fact: The gun they use is called a bolter. It fires a .75 two stage armour piercing explosive round. In basic terms take a tiny rocket, give it an armour piercing tip and an explosive charge. Then you put it in a conventional bullet. The normal gunpowder charge gets it out of your gun (dodging the gyrojets low initial velocity) at a reasonable clip, then the rocket motor ignites and keeps it on a straight trajectory while upping its armour penetration qualities. Once it hits something the explosive fuse is set off which give it a fraction of a second to penetrate then explodes.

It is debatable whether Space Marines are truly human, though. It really depends on how you define "human." Is a being that is much larger than any human being, and has three lungs, two hearts, a fused ribcage, and can spit acid truly a human being? And who also has a psychology drastically different from that of humanity, and is not capable of sexual reproduction to produce more of its kind? The funny thing is that if anything, Astartes would be the textbook definition of _mutants_ (yes, I know that is a heretical statement, and will submit myself to any Inquisitorial review, but shut not your ears, good Imperial citizen). Your average Astartes is as much a mutant as an Ogryn or a Navigator, but I do agree that a Space Marine is far more human than some of the more eccentric members of the Adeptus Mechanicus; those cogboys can get real freaky. I do disagree with your third point, somewhat, though. The main thing that seems to be missing in 40K when compared to the real world is the abundance of precision-guided weapons that modern militaries employ nowadays... as well as a surprising lack of tactical nuclear weapons. (I don't think even an Ork horde would fare too well after being bombarded with several 10 kT nuclear warheads.) As for the claim that the Imperium doesn't use real world military tactics, it's worth noting that your available weaponry determines your tactics, and that trench warfare did not die out with WWI and WWII; it was employed as late as the Iran-Iraq war. Moreover, the Guard tends to fight in large-scale battles which we have _not_ seen since the Second World War, thankfully. You really cannot compare modern counterinsurgency operations to the sort of massive battles that occur every Tuesday in the 40K universe. It's quite possible that a WW3 near the end of the Cold War would have eventually looked like an Imperial Guard battle as both sides ran low on guided munitions and C3 capabilities were degraded. What made "Astartes" so memorable for me is that you _do_ see the Space Marines and their opponents using realistic small-unit tactics, and not just wading in to Hulk-smash everything like we see them doing in virtually every other media description of the Adeptus Astartes. Their opponents are not crazed or idiotic mooks; those traitor Guardsmen are smart and brave. They set up ambushes and have multiple positions to fall back to. Those tactics would have worked well even against real-world special forces operators. Unfortunately for those traitors, they weren't facing Delta Force or Tempestus Scions. They are simply _outmatched_ in every sense of the word. As for bolters, I've seen in some sources that they use .998 caliber projectiles, but the lore really isn't consistent on this. It also doesn't explain how they avoid the Gyrojet's other problem--horrendous accuracy due to inconsistent spin-stabilization. I guess that the bolter ammunition is just made with a much higher level of quality control than the original Gyrojet rounds. The ironic thing is that the humble Guardsman's lasgun is more technologically advanced (from a real-world perspective) than the bolter, and, in the real world, a lasgun would be a far superior weapon. Who _wouldn't_ want a 3.5 kg rifle that (somehow) fires eye safe lasers with enough energy to shear off human limbs, has a "magazine" with at least 50 shots, and uses power packs that you can recharge with solar energy or even by tossing them into a campfire?! And that comes in a package durable enough to use it as a club or a walking stick? The lasgun is a logisticians wet dream, and a weapon with which to conquer worlds... and the Imperial Guard has plenty of experience doing that.
@myririmyri66393 жыл бұрын
@@Schwarzvogel1 Strictly speaking the space marines fall into the transhuman category. Human origin but modified artificially to something beyond that. Which is one of the reasons the Emperor made them male only. Didn't want humanity turned into astartes over time. Now as for weapons. Theres different kinds of bolter. You're referencing the heavy bolter which fires a larger round. Typically mounted in vehicles but also carried as a heavy weapon by a lone astartes. The spin problem isn't really a problem if your manufacturing standards or methodology are up to snuff. Gyrojets were made at a time when that kind of precision was hard for small batches. Imperium is post dark age of technology which was when humanity basically "finished" science. The lasgun meanwhile seems cool but is weak sauce compared to the bolter. Its armour penetration is balls and compared to other weapons, armour and vehicles being fielded is woefully underpowered. Which is half the point of 40K, its so over the top the guys with a laser gun that is putting out energy per shot equivalent to a .50 BMG are on the lower end of power scale. Overall it seems that las weapons are relatively easy to defend against for most things on the battlefields of the 40k universe. Either their physiology is able to deal with the damage or prevent it. Or their armour is designed explicitly to manage it. The bolter meanwhile is designed explicitly to get into things then explode. Now strategy. You do see precision guided munitions, its just that theres a lot less of them. Personally I think any major war scenario between developed nations would see these precision weapons quickly exhausted then never replaced. They are a lot of effort to make and maintain. Easy to justify and cover for in peacetime (or just engaging in one of the USAs foreverwars) but much harder to manage in an all out war.

To sum it up, they were once human. Now they are superhumans wearing some of the strongest armor and hardest hitting guns in the imperium. I mean, that rocket launcher soldier hadn't even been up a second when his buddies got shredded by bolter rounds, and he barely even had time to fire before he was turned to mist. Not to mention stabbing a guy behind you through the chest without even looking at the poor guy.

Not sure how many times these have been answered but: “Who were those metal dudes and the balls?” We have no idea yet “Are the Astartes human?” Technically yes, but they have been heavily modified since childhood to be hulking perfect soldiers of war. And also, that dude who “betrayed” them was most likely a psyker (think Jedi that can use the force, except they draw power from the warp, which is basically save hell) and was corrupted by the ball.

17:29 When you pause it at the moment it becomes bright enough to see, you can also see other entity of the Warp in the bottom right corner. That creature that took the Space Marines told the other one that it wouldn't survive when it breaks it seal. You saw how bright it was with its blue glow, probably psy-energy and beings of the warp are drawn to it like moths to the light.
@keenfire81513 жыл бұрын
Also to add to yours. That black mist that surrounds the Marines and the black mist that hits the warp entity is likely the psyker's last ditch effort to save them before he got possessed.

@@keenfire8151 Can't be, they got the call to get out after the psyker died. Why do you think I said this in the first place? Because alot of people thought that, but no. It is not the psyker.
@keenfire81513 жыл бұрын
@@archerbascha8757 the only reason i said that is because the time of the video isnt linear....and i follow the artist...he gave a thumbs up to someone who said that.
@archerbascha87573 жыл бұрын
@@keenfire8151 Only because he gave it a thumbs up isn't the same as for him saying what is actually happening. Not like the time everyone thought what those aliens are excactly, only for him to come out and tell everyone that they are made up ( and that he probaby got influenced by the lore a while back but couldn't remmeber it which is why they look familiar ). And I am pretty sure I saw other thumbs up on other comments, either lore related or not. And you can follow the timeline. The moment the Astartes is send back to the com station, the psyker is attacked by the alien. He wouldn't have time to help the Astartes on the other ship while fighting and losing that battle. I am not saying that he couldn't multitask, but usually a psyker needs alot of concentration to fight any Warp related attack, especially at that skale. And I also doubt that the artist designs the Warb entity in the backgrond the same way an attack of the psyker looks like. He has clearly shown that when he does something, you can distinguish anything what is happening on screen from each other, to let the viewer not getting confused. There is also that moment the aliens talk with each other where the Psyker hears in. It was kind of foreshadowed that it is a bad idea to go into the Warp, since the one that breaks it seal and takes the Astartes said that it wouldn't survive. I doubt that it was talking about a Psyker following it into the Warp.

Games I'd recommend are Dawn of War 1 and 2 (including the expansions), Mechanicus, Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2, Space Marine and Spacehulk Deathwing. But I'd recommend playing Deathwing with friends, as the singleplayer is not very good, and playing with random people is nowhere near as fun. Also there is a lot of 40k games, so I haven't played all of them, so I might have missed a few good ones. Also the majority of 40K games have a reputation for being kinda trash

DoW 1 is great for base building and if you're a fan of the original starcraft; DoW 2 is great for those who like more up and personal RTS's that aren't MOBAs; Space Marine is basically easy Dark-Souls with guns in space; Deathwing is basically playing as Ripley in Aliens except you've got power armor and a flamethrower/shotgun with unlimited ammo, along with any friends who get the same thing. I can't say anything about Mechanicus, because that one somehow snuck under my radar, but I haven't heard good things about BGA2, though I have heard it's great if you like Space RTS. And don't play DoW 3, Eternal Crusade, or Fire Warrior. God, those games were bad, each for the same reason somehow.

@@tyrantofcans465 Mechanicus is amazing. It’s like XCom only in that you have turns, an escalating threat, and some cover. You only have full or no cover. There isn’t accuracy (thank goodness), but there is armor which reduces damage. It’s amazing, absolutely recommend. Also, there’s a reverse difficulty curve. Give tech-priests the cog occultularis ASAP, it’s OP. Also, Ruststalkers lose stealth for the rest of the mission when they do, it carries over through battles but not missions.
