I've been hearing the woke term and had no idea what it was. This helped. And I wish the people following the pied pipers of the woke clan would awaken to see a clearer picture. The elites that desire a two-class system always use their followers to help them get there. The followers don't realize they will have no status once the elites are in control. Of course, the elites never learn from history that their empire will be a limited period of time, once the followers decide its time. This Hanson fan agrees with this, "it never ends".

@janetleeadams72874 ай бұрын
We all are victims of one thing or another. I come from very poor roots--my grandparents, aunts and uncles--were from eastern Oklahoma and picked cotton. My dad's generation worked in a zinc smelter. And now I am a well past-retirement aged, grey-haired, wrinkle-faced woman. There is no level of woke that sees me as a viable citizen, a well educated and highly skilled teacher. They see grey and wrinkles. I don't care woke or sleeping. It means nothing when the average human can not simply see the average human in front of them. In my younger days when I taught overseas, I observed discrimination unknown in the modern United States. Not against ME; no against people from the southern part of the countries, people with darker skin tones, people who were not educated, who spoke with an accent, people from the wrong tribe, people who were not like 'us,' whoever us is. I am tired of people who prefer believing lies over demonstrable truth.

@davidpeterjameson79373 ай бұрын
I'm not certain that I agree with this video's definition, not that VDH is wrong, but he might be over-complicating it. I think that defining 'woke' is quite easy - it is the opposite of the 'American Dream'. Thus, one can be woke by simply refusing to participate in, or criticizing, or defying things traditionally associated with the American Dream. So, heterosexual marriage, having two-plus kids, home ownership, going to a Christian church, rugged individualism, patriotism, capitalism... all of these things are part of the American Dream and therefore anathema to being 'woke'. So, to be woke is to reject all of these in favor of their opposites: homosexuality, abortion, non-ownership, non-Christian or atheistic, collectivism, open borders, and communism. The fact that the opposites do not necessarily blend well together is irrelevant. The objective is to reject the American Dream, criticize it, demonize it, destroy it, and replace it with anything else.

idk if I am enamored by the concise speech of this man or if what he says just really makes that much sense! it's dangerous I feel, but I am hopeful! I am considered an autodidact, but I am by no means a person who exists in the collegiate sphere of society. (a disclaimer on my aptitude) I am here to learn; may it be time well spent. I place great value on the historians. This is the third video I've watched today (and listened to) and I am getting blown away by everything he has to say. I do not align to one party or the other, nor do I ride the proverbial fence. I am not apt to giving myself over to one cause or another as I find there are dirty details no matter where you look, with that being said, I can certainly identify certain nuances that plague the modern age that are leading society toward something that looks more like what you get out of situations like what's going on in fictional dystopian universes. (pick one) I find men like this to be of great importance to challenge herd mentality and the kinds of sensationalism that is perpetuated by tribalism. It seems to me that items such as equality and equity, have been hijacked by those who want no such thing in reality. But I have to keep in mind that the oppressed and the oppressors have an uncanny knack for switching hands with what one COULD describe as trained skill. anyway, ranting at this point. carry on.

I love Victor, but he barely explained anything there. I will use my definition. "Woke is a confluence of communist coalition movements beginning post-WW2 (and earlier) that forgoes the "class struggle" to focus on non-economic issues (race and gender) with eternal goal of ending capitalism." The Frankfort School and Mao. Woke, at its core, is a Maoist style revolutionary force with training at a young age (education capture) and coalition building to expand into a majority large enough counter a societies cultural norms.

India has done all what Hanson says in various forms like tearing down statues, defacing them, changing old names of places, attributing to Brahmins things that they didn’t do etc. The list of woke political movement’s commissions are long and happens everyday. What Kamala Harris is to USA, the current Indian President Draupadi Murmu is to India (though President Murmu, lacks the notoriety and the cackle that characterises Harris). The notorious DMK, a ruling party in India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu, even attempted to rewrite the epic “Ramayana”.

I think the latest emergence of WOKE is the way it's used for all types of oppression to come together as one to fight for each individual struggle. Therefore, whether the struggle is associated with race, class, culture or sexual orientation or even disability all these are meant to support each one of the others. The problem with this is that it's open to abuse and therefore dangerous. For example, what if you happen to be the only western white women on a work force with others: different ethnic minorities etc., those ethnic minorities can work together to push you out of employment despite the fact you might be the better candidate for the job. They may do this thinking they are acting according to the principles of WOKE but now an innocent women loses her job.

I have a lot of respect for Victor Davis Hanson, however, he's wrong about the origins of Woke. Wokism is of European origin and its heartbeat for the past 40 years has been the United Nations. James Lindsay has done an outstanding job painstakingly tracking it's ideological formation and spread in his work. His book 'Race Marxism' is an essential read in this regard. Popular figures like Obama, Kendi and DiAngelo were merely transmitters of the Establishment message after it had spread.

This is wildly incorrect. The woke term became prominent in the 1920s with the African American population. This is documented. It became an even more prominent term in the 1990s when African Americans tried to find their African roots. Then with social media non African Americans have been able to see AA discussions and have now known the term woke. It is an African American term.

Hansen thinks the left invented race and identity politics "because marxism failed", but within his lifetime marxists trained his generation to think race "shouldn't" matter, to suppress their sense of ethnos or "having a people" like every successful civilization (including America for a time). Race (like sex) is our biological infrastructure, and you can't wish it away; what's in our genes matters, it binds us. Dionysus II (the famous tyrant of Syracuse) liked to import "diversity", using foreigners to water down the coherent ethnos that made his subjects strong, so they fought internally instead of resisting his tyranny. Hansen should appreciate that tyrants love to suppress race/ethnos, he claims to be interested in that era.
