I met a lovely, friendly Armenian lady named Laura Gorgorian in Phoenix who worked at as a seamstress at a department store where I bought several dresses that needed alterations in the early 1980s. She told me about her parents and she and her siblings fleeing persecution in Armenia for New York City when she was young, and then moved on to Arizona. She invited me to her cozy home to meet her sister and served me a delicious dessert and told me about their beliefs at the Armenian Church in Scottsdale and stories about her homeland. She died some years ago and every time I drive near her home, I miss her! RIP sweet Laura.

@@sweetman5249 Hi and thanks for your message. It IS very hot here, up to 113 -116 a few days ago and barely any rain this monsoon season. The ONLY way to survive is to constantly drink cold water and get errands done early. At least no hurricanes here!

@@CharityGal That is true. It is always hot . I love that but sometimes it was extremely hot . I k moved over there for work and lived for two years . Then came back to Atlanta . My work office was in Chandler. Now I might move to Houston but working remotely for the moment . I really missed Arizona . I explored a lot . Visited Grand canyon, Sedona and Tucson. Walked in Tempe town lake , Papago park . Great state and cool culture. Very low crime rate, decent people. The only bad thing was I wasn’t able to find a good woman to fall in love with 😆. I come from Piraeus, a city with a large Armenian community that found refuge here from the genocide. They even have their own district in the city which they share with descendants of Greek refugees from Anatolia. They are good, friendly people, never caused a problem, we have members of the municipal council of Armenian origin. They are fully incorporated to the fabric of the Greek society. It's very sad to see such terrible things happening to such good people though. Thank you for that wonderful video that gave me a lot of information about the Armenian history which l dare say never had the chance of investigating deeply. Keep up the good work.

@@Pincer88 Armenians ( Armano-Greco-Phrygians) and Iranic peoples ( Medo-Persians ) were the cousin Indo-europeans who established powerful civilisations in Anatolia , Caucasus and Iran , both nations used to adhere to Zoroastrianism and share core linguistic kinship and culture , one of the most admired classic Persian legends is the story of Xosrow ( pre-Islamic Iranian King ) and Shirin ( Armenian Princess ) which inspired many paintings and artistic creation.
@hi_arav

@@Pincer88 Yes! From my perspective (as an Armenian), it seems like Armenia is Iran's little brother. We've adopted religious, linguistic, cultural customs throughout ancient history. Many Armenian words come originally from Iranian cultures (Parthia, Mede, etc.). Our polytheistic religion adopted some rites from Zoraostrianism. I feel like Armenia and Iran, despite fighting each other often in ancient history, have a kinship that is currently asleep. I hope it awakens one day.

In 1979, while on a visit to 'The Soviet Union' I had the opportunity to visit Armenia. I found Yerevan a beautiful city; how the citizens escaped the heat of the day by milling around the fountain in the centre of the City come nightfall - the scene was quite surreal among the ancient buildings. I entered Yerevan by bus - a seven hour drive from Tbilisi - I fell asleep and awoke midway; it was like driving through the Bible-Lands - there is something spiritual about Armenia. While driving through France in 2010 I came across the City of Valence: it was there I was privy to the plight of portions of the Armenian refugees who were made to flee Armenia in 1915.

Let’s also not forget, how seemingly over a span of 8 years, 2 million Armenians (90% of the Armenian population in Eastern Anatolia) just disappeared…. What happened? Did they evaporate into the atmosphere? No, the Turks and Kurds killed them off and deported them out of their native lands…. The proof is there. just a correction: Hayk is pronounced with a clear a, like in arm. Same with Hayastan (both a-s) and Hayq. Also, the explanation for the last part is very easy: Russia has put itself firmly on the side of Azerbaijan/Turkey. So... Armenia is threeading very carefully so as to not get completely wiped out.

I commend you for this video. Great job! It is very hard to summarise a history of four thousand years or more into a narration of less than an hour and maintain a logical and comprehensible sequence. There are many interesting episodes in the history of Armenia that deserve videos of their own and not only the history of Armenia as such but the history of Armenians around the globe. It is a nation that has contributed a lot to world civilisation and individual countries. They traded from Isfahan, Mumbai, Madras, Calcutta etc through what is mow Sharjah (UAE) to Venice and up to Amsterdam. They played an imporatnt role in linking east and west and spreading innovations to many countries, e.g. printing, photography etc You can still find their footprint in India, Iran, many countries in Indochina, in the Crimea, in Lvov, Venice etc etc. Even if their communities were comparatively very small in some countries their impact on management, trade, banking, science and music and arts was impressive, like in Egypt and Ethiopia... I hope you will find the time to dig into specific topics and episodes of the history of Armenians and dedicate videos to them... In any case, thanks a lot, your current video is in itself a feat!

@@stephenchappell7512we were referred to as Azerbaijan before. In the 15th century BC the zoroastrians referred to the lands of modern day Azerbaijan as ‘Atere-pata’ which directly translates to ‘Atropatene’, which became an independent kingdom eventually in NW Iran. The term Azerbaijan derives from Atropates, a Persian satrap under the Achaemenid Empire who was reinstated as the satrap of Media under Alexander the Great. The original etymology of this name is thought to have its roots in the once-dominant Zoroastrianism. In the Avesta's Frawardin Yasht ("Hymn to the Guardian Angels"), there is a mention of âterepâtahe ashaonô fravashîm ýazamaide, which translates from Avestan as "we worship the fravashi of the holy Atropatene". The name "Atropates" is the Greek transliteration of an Old Iranian, probably Median, compounded name with the meaning "Protected by the (Holy) Fire" or "The Land of the (Holy) Fire". The Greek name was mentioned by Diodorus Siculus and Strabo. Over the span of millennia, the name evolved to Āturpātākān (Middle Persian), then to Ādharbādhagān, Ādhorbāygān, Āzarbāydjān (New Persian) and present-day Azerbaijan.

I’m American 🇺🇸 of Chaldean Catholic descent from northern Mesopotamia. I’m a fluent speaker of Aramaic, it’s the language of the Bible and of course Jesus, he spoke the ancient Galilean dialect, I speak the more advanced Neo- Aramaic of the Neo Babylonian empire, same alphabet (22 letters), word formation, sentence structure, text, all of it. I think the Aramaic psalm 51 is popular in Georgia. It’s the same exact language as Mel Gibson’s film “passions of the Christ” (2004). Since it was in ancient Aramaic, i had to read 20-25 % English subtitles, my great grandma, said she understood all of it word for word. It’s like New Zealand versus Brooklyn English. The aforementioned we’re the first Christian “community” to form when being Christian was dangerous business at the time, I’m serious, they were evangelized by Saint Thomas himself en route further east to spread the message. I have countless ancestral Christian martyrs, the latest victims came under the wrath of isis (2014-16) effectively nearly 90% migration to the west. Forced ti pay a monthly Jizya (extortion), convert or lose ur head. Not one successful conversion to another religion. Armenia was the first state ever to become Christian. I did a DNA test 3-4 yrs ago and nothing in the world prepared me for the results, mind you I’m thinking to be a “son of Babylon” 60% (+/- 7%) from the Caucuses with the heaviest concentrations in Armenia and Georgia 🇦🇲 🇬🇪 ! How ? Babylon or Nineveh are light years away from Tbilisi or Yerevan ! How, when, why ? Was it ancient migration from the Caucuses or the reverse, but why would they, they lived in an easy to farm w all the new discoveries and innovations, an easy life compared to anyone in the known world. There is definitely an “Armenoid” similarities and haploid similarities that are undeniable. So the Urartu or Haya or ? I know there were also the people of “Arya” or in English “Aryan” or “white man of Europe” according to German scientists from the 1930’s whose origin is from southeast Mesopotamia and Persia. I’m beginning to connect the dots and this documentary helps along w the good folks of Armenia directing me where to look. Sumer has a 9000 yr history, some say 12,000 yrs and

Historically yes Armenia was always in between much larger empires and kingdoms And we're stuck in the middle. It's not like we've been suffering ever start there's been rough times absolutely every country every people of origin have suffered at one point in history. And today We still remain we're still proud and strong however our country is weak , government disorganized , leaders are corrupt and weak .

@FortressofLugh
@FortressofLugh 8 ай бұрын
There are a LOT of details left out, as is the nature of a video that tries to condense 4500 years into 40 minutes. Nevertheless, the money and weapons provided seemed to be an attempt by the Bolsheviks to buy off Turkey on the cheap as potential allies rather than to destroy Armenia specifically. They had their own concerns, and Armenian well-being was certainly not high on their list.

What kind of BS is that? You got to be ashamed of yourself. I don’t care who says what when was the last when Armenians had a country and being safe from predators until Soviet times. And then where is the proof of your bs First of all Turks didn’t have enough weapons to do so and why Lenin would do that when Armenia was already under Soviet. If not the Soviet Union you would be speaking Turkish .
@TheMistercrowley
@TheMistercrowley 6 ай бұрын
@@vvg6111 this is easily verifiable information. It’s not bullshit. Lenin was even quoted as saying that they don’t support the western attempts to steal away Turkish Armenia from Turkey. And 1/3 of their gold and resources came from the Bolsheviks. I can get you specific numbers but again this is verifiable information. You should be ashamed of yourself instead of me because you hold some sort of sacred belief and argue against historical facts that you can easily look up. Shame on you not me. Ataturk wrote Lenin a letter asking for support and alliance against western attempts to carve up Turkey. Lenin did not offer a full alliance because they still needed to brainwash people like you, but Lenin offered support and sent support. Lenin was pretty much instrumental in helping the rebel forces of Ataturk resist western plans for the Ottomans. They went back to rivalry during Stalin’s times and tried to take back certain Armenian territories. But their cycle of friendship and rivalry is always there. It depends on how they stand towards the west. At that small point in time, they were both anti western. Again shame on you for arguing facts without verifying like it’s your religious belief.

Armenian here who's been a fan of your channel because of your Celtic videos for long!! 🥹❤️❤️ A short observation regarding the beginning, and the birth of our nation: we're a mix of tribes, clans and peoples. From the Urartians, to the Trialeti-Vanadzor (Kura-Araxes civilization), to the Hayasa, Armen, Azzi, Etiuni, Shubri, Torgama, etc... Even some remnants of the eastern Hittites upon their fall that merged into the genepool of what now is the Armenian people. Whereas the reason we have different names in different languages, it may depend on which tribe had more contact or was more known/powerful at the time of our "recognition" by each nation. We call ourselves Hay and most peoples know us as Armenians. The Hayasa and the Armen were by far two of the most influential founding tribes, even before Urartu. What Urartu brought to the table is that they were the first official and organized Armenian State/political entity, with established boundaries with our neighbors, a legal system in place, etc. Edit: ok maybe it wasn't a short observation 😅 but still loved the vid!!

I know we have some difficult names and words to pronounce in English like the name Khorenatsi for example, so this isn't supposed to be a disrespectful comment, I just wanted to make sure people know we don't call ourselves Hay like Hey or like Hay like what horses eat lmao.
