Warhammer has a long history and Chaos has been a part of it since the very beginning, in fact, Chaos was there before Warhammer even existed! In this episode I explore the earliest examples of, and inspirations on, the legendary Warriors of Chaos!
In Building Warhammer Armies Jordan Sorcery explores the origins and evolutions of classic factions in Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40k, and the Age of Sigmar.

I know, right?! When you've heard all the lore videos 10 times over, these behind the scenes interviews are so refreshing. And although there are similar channels out there I think Jordan's vids are standing out with his enthusiasm and overall quality of his work.

To my mind the Dark Elves of mid-to-late-era WFB resemble Moorcockian Chaos-traffickers more than the Chaos Warriors of the same period - though that's because the RoC books did such a good job of establishing the Chaos pantheon we all know and steadfastly oppose. Really the Chaos Warriors stand as the holotype of GW's practice of taking a fantasy idea, 'Warhammerising' it (to use a term coined by a sceptical friend of mine) and jiggling it about until they find a niche for it in their own mythos. Sometimes, as with the Squats, this takes a while, but Chaos Warriors did it so well that it's hard to imagine a Warhammer World without the horny little buggers. I recall once trying to come up with an expansive fantasy mythos with a friend who shared my concern that our gaming club was too Warhammer-focused; we had armies of fairy-like elves, swamp-dwelling dwarfs with animist magic ripped out of early-period Shadowrun, evil radioactive giants inspired by Rob Zombie videos, cyborgs created by a crash-landed factory spaceship and a dozen other factions, but the project got rather deflated when we were a couple of Fridays into creating the Dark, a faction of all-encompassing demon-worshippers, and realised that we were cribbing the whole idea from Warhammer. Our club focused so much on Warhammer, we realised, because Warhammer is, for all of the jury-rigging and cribbing that went into its early editions, a masterfully well-executed pulp fantasy milieu, and the Chaos Warriors are crucial to that.

Lets just say that the guy who designed the costumes and look of the bad guys in 1982's 'Beastmaster' movie - was a Warriors of Chaos fan, also that first scene in Conan the Barbarian (1982 movie) - there MUST have been some Warriors of Chaos influence there especially with the leaders on horseback.

Looking forward when you eventually do a video on chaos dwarves. They are such a squatted faction, but the Forge World models they got for that one 8th edition supplement were the most amazing thing in existence.

I've always loved Chaos in Warhammer and played numerous armies over the years. When Old World happened I felt a mighty urge to do a new army and had to go heavily into an Ian Miller inspired force. There are so many themes/styles available for Chaos stuff, they always feel fresh.

This is peak Jordan Socery content right here. LOVE IT! Also, you've helped identify one of the earlier GW models I own: Daethskar from the C35 range. A friend gave me several Chaos Warriors from that era and I've never tried to identify them despite having used Stuff of Legends many times in the past. I didn't realize he was on the cover of the 3rd ed. book! I've gotta paint that guy up now. He deserves it. The other Chaos minis I have (4-5) are mostly similar to Daethskar, although one of them is a Chaos-Cat-Warrior; I've always wondered what his story is. To the interwebs!! Thank you Jordan. :-) (Joey Jar Jar) ;-)

As you delve more into lore from old editions, I found myself collecting a Warriors of Chaos army. So this video is like a peak point, Warhammer is not Empire or Space Marines, Sigmar etc. For me, Warhammer is Chaos. Especially Warriors because they have more character than Chaos Space Marines.
