When the Soviet Union collapsed the local arms became part of the new military forces. Some countries were lucky, Ukraine, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan inherited tremendous amounts of sophisticated weaponry. Other countries were unlucky and got very little like Uzbekistan. Chechnya inherited a decent amount of military hardware but the Chechens didnt defeat the Russians with tanks or warplanes. +Sameer M Please tell me how the dozens of Islamist terror groups in Syria were somehow "occupied". These groups are only silent under total authority that shoot everyone who even thinks about causing a stir. If you remove that authority they will emerge. we have seen that in Libya (not occupied), Syria (not occupied), Nigeria (Boko Haram, not occupied country), Afghanistan (again, the Sovjets left a bit of a power vacuum which Taliban made use of, as radical as ISIS and they did not moderate in the decade that no one bothered them) India, where in the past decades thousands of Hindoes and Muslims died "sorting out" their regious differences. Not occupied.

+Sameer M Yet proved that if you brutalize people enough, it solved the problem. As disastrous as the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan were, there was no campaign of systematic brutalization of the population. Then ISIS rised. Chechnya is now nominally at peace. At least Chechens won't kill each other, and the current government is friendly towards Moscow. The cost? Brute force. Simple, and effective. It seems this can work as a counter insurgency tactics. That is only when you actually have the force and gut to do it to the bitter end.

Russian Tsar Ivan IV "The Terrible" only 3-4 thousands of people were killed during his rule less than St. Bartholomew's Day massacre in France, but still Ivan IV is considered one of the most evil tyrants in history. About 70 thousand of people were killed during Henry VIII of England rule who is the evil tyrant now? The way Russia built it's empire and the way western powers built their empires. Of course Russia had it's imperialist wars and atrocities, but for fuck's sake, Russia is not responsible for wiping out entire civilizations like civilizations of Maya, Incas and Aztecs in South America, Russia didn't colonize and enslave the population and didn't loot the resources of Africa, on the other hand the USSR and other communist countries helped many African resistance armies to fight colonialism and white supremacy. The UK colonized, oppressed and looted India for hundred years. Let's be honest most of British wealth came from robbing of India and other colonies. Opium wars in China were organized by the UK and the US. And the west dares to call US barbarians?

@@bestlobjagamer348 unfortunately a lot of the artifacts were lost when stalin deported the Chechens to Kazakhstan. From the wiki article about the Timurid Simsim wars: In Nakh folklore, there are several legends regarding the invasion of Timur. The most popular being the "sword of reconciliation", which states that after the Battle of Shotoy, Timur gifted his sword to Irdig as a sign of respect for the Chechens' resistance. Similar stories claim that Timur gifted the Chechen people gold and other riches, which the Chechen elders of today claim to have been stolen during the deportation of the Chechens and Ingush. Another popular story, is after a battle, which ended in a Timurid victory, only one man survived, a singer, who motivated the Chechen fighters through his music. He was captured and taken to Timur, who asked him, "Is anyone still alive?", to which the man replied "No". "Have they all died?", asked Timur, to which he responded "Yes", "And how did you survive?" "I could not hold the blade in my hands during the battle, i fell, and they twisted me, otherwise i would've died together with everyone." The Chechens have never been fanatics of faith. They just believe, and the soldiers are excellent, smart, fearless. They were always such and entered Islam. Their boundless courage from nature, not from faith. Their history is filled with war and they are giving the enemy a hundred times, we always had it. Mighty Russian Empire at least two hundred years, fought with them and there was nothing I could do about it. Chechnya succeeded only because of the resources that she has dried up. But they remained undefeated. The only people who could accept the challenge is a hundred times superior enemy. These people are not allowed to be the princes, kings, khans. He was always self-governing Councils of societies and countries that were free and had democracy. Warrior people

So how do we get from there to the Boston Marathon bombing? Where this left off one would be led to imagine the Kremlin basement would be the first stop for such tactics? The wolves don’t want to provoke the bear? Love to hear more where this left off. As an Irishman I have tremendous respect for the Chechnya’s history/culture and deep love of their homeland no matter what the conditions. Would love to hear more! Great job with the brief oral history.

Do you have a book or web page or article that describes the ancient conflict between Korean people and Chinese people in the year 100 BC ? Some of the most important scientists and engineers in the history of microelectronics were Koreans (Samsung anyone?) and Korean workers helped to rebuild Germany and Japan after the destruction of World War 2 and I do know that many ethnic Korean people were soldiers in the Imperial Japanese military during world war 2 (the Filipinos in World War 2 were very afraid of Korean soldiers in Japanese uniforms because the Koreans were such skilled warriors). One of the wealthiest investment bankers in Japan is named Masayoshi Son and he is of Korean ancestry.

To my knowledge, the Ingush were not deported. The Ingush in many places just were settled into some Chechen homes and whatnot. Given they're related to Chechens and everyone recognized it wasn't their fault there wasn't really problems when the Chechens returned. But with the Ossetians there were more issues (Ossetians were christians). Also, wasn't Chechen identity kept together through their national identity or clan/trip system? I thought they didn't really get Islamist until after first war

Stalin did not genocide Chechens. They were deported. Yes, many died during the transportation. Those who were guilty of that were punished, as it was done during Stalin times. Besides, Chechens and Crimean Tartars were collaborating with Nazis during WW2, that is why they were deported. It is tragic, but it makes geopolitical sense. In comparison, Americans also deported American Japanese into concentration camps during war with Japan.
@vadimnagano8 жыл бұрын
Seing that you're probably Muslim, Chechen and C. Tartars deportation had nothing to do with persecution of Islam. It was purely a matter of state security in the face of Nazi invasion. That is why after WW2 both nations were allowed to return to their homeland. Russian Empire could not allow some unruly warring tribes on their border, because should they ally with Ottomans, Persians or anybody else, that would become a matter of state security. Also had nothing to do with persecution of Islam, because in Russian Empire Islam was protected by the state.
