For those complaining about the sound, yes you would indeed hear the rocket... If you are inside of it... The sound waves will travel though the solid mass of the vehicle, into the artificial atmosphere in the capsule and the occupants would indeed hear every little thing. Outside is a different story.

camera is clearly outside of rocket as the sound from the rocket in space fades out as it flys away from you

There is no sound in a vacuum. The gas from the rocket makes a slight amount of pressure, what you are hearing is the gas from the rocket hitting the camera. (if one was there)

I care. I'm an animator. In animation, even moreso than in live-action film-making, the director must be very concerned with sound. Because it's the best way to help the viewer feel as if what they are seeing is real. In a bad animation, the sound causes the viewer to feel that what they are seeing does not match what they are hearing, or reality. As is the case in this noisy space animation. I'm as big a space geek as anyone. In my science, animation, YOU HAVE TO GET DETAILS LIKE THIS RIGHT.

Are their any other launchers for the Orion spacecraft to LEO ? The plan for safety was to separate the crew from the payload/cargo. Then you can also launch more cargo/payload with the SLS ! Back to the Moon to Stay and onto Mars and Beyond-Ad Astra... tjl

Tim Lipinski Originally, during the the Constellation program they were going to send the manned capsule on the far more obsolete Ares I rocket, and then launch payloads and other modules on the much larger Ares V rocket. This however, would increase costs in fuel, so when the Orion and SLS projects were initiated, it was more logical to launch on one powerful rocket.

Nope, the first uncrewed test flight is next year, then once the SLS is ready to go in 2017 this will be the second uncrewed mission. I believe the first crewed mission is in 2019 with a few astronauts to go around the moon.

There were many notable delays with the Orion and SLS launches, and the Artemis mission in it's current form didn't exist in 2013, nor did the Lunar Gateway. If your interest is Lunar spaceflight then 2024-2030 will be very exciting for you.

The Space Launch System name is very clumsy-sounding. Just call it what it really is: Saturn VI. Also, to answer the question about the ATV solar panels, no, they won't be a one-mission deal. That is truly what Orion will look like.

BNSF1995 There are some problems with your reasoning there. First off, you can just call it the SLS, which gets the point across and is easy to say. Also, the SLS is not part of the Saturn Series; it's mainly Space Shuttle-derived. There were plans for an upgraded Saturn V, called Nova, but they were scrapped at the end of Skylab. The SLS is a Saturn VI in spirit only.
