Orion Mpulse 30 Permanent Jewelry Welder. Is it worth it ?

Thanks for the video. Do you ever feel like while using the mpulse, you wish the machine had a half (.5) setting? I’m a bit of a perfectionist and think that I’d not like it if welds were too over melted or under is why I ask. TIA!

Yes! In practice through we do just fine with the original Mpulse, however the PJ and the new Mpulse are worthwhile upgrades if you need a second welder, or you need to work small. Which eventually everyone will be welding links etc. As the industry develops big jump rings will start to go away bc customers will realize they don’t look good.

Thank you for your informative videos! I've watched a few and have subscribed. I have a question... can you weld gold plated jump rings and chains or is this only for gold filled and sterling silver jewelry? Which welding machine would you recommend for gold plated and gold filled jump rings and chains? I work with very small jump rings (3mm) and dainty chains. Thank you in advance 😊

Hi Raysa, sweet name you should use that for a business, would be cool with like a sun-inspired logo. 🌞 You can weld any kind of jump ring with either machine. Keep in mind when you weld plated metals, the weld area heats up and flows/bonds so the plated outside layer gets mixed with the base metal. The weld area may not be gold anymore. I find with gold filled this is somewhat minimized if you can make the weld in one zap. I weld gold plated stainless steel sometimes and it can turn black/silver (and can’t be cleaned), but you can weld the chain links so that the weld area is hidden. As for which welder I recommend, that is a longer answer, but here is my 2 cents: if you can afford the Orion, go for it. You’ll get a quality machine and the ADL means you don’t need to wear welding glasses and worry about that, and there is a warranty should things go wrong. You get great control of the power for all different applications. If budget is a concern, or if you are more hobbyist vs business, the Amazon welder will most likely do what you need. You can pick one up used on eBay for like $250. Play around with it, and if you find yourself using it a lot, then justifying the cost of the Orion will be easy. Pretty soon I will sell my Amazon welder and get another Orion, bc I use them daily. Glad to be of help, lmk how it goes !

$2000 is nothing to scoff at. If you’re JUST doing permanent jewelry you really don’t need it imo. You’re just welding the same two jump rings over and over again.

I see your point, if you limit your business to the scope of what the like Amazon welder can do, you don’t really need an Orion. But if you want to weld basically any chain in the game, you do need it. The Orion + microscope is no doubt the safest, fastest most accurate way to do PJ. The cost is quickly recouped (like in a day) so why not is really the question. Just my opinion of course.
