Orion XTR 2500.1D Amp Dyno Test - Real RMS Power at 12.6 volts

It's 2017 and my brain is still wired to 1994 when the Orion XTR-2250 (1000 watts RMS) sold for 1300 bucks. Here we visit the present time when you can get a 2500 watt RMS amplifier for $439 USD. I've been in talks with Orion for a few months now as I keep getting requests to test their amps. I decided a good one to try would be the XTR 2500.1D. Rated 2500 watts at 1 ohm, 12.6 volts, seems like a good price point for many car audio enthusiasts.
As stated in the video, Orion sent me this amp to test (not to keep, will be returned) and they did NOT pay me for this video. I had already bought an XTR 2500.1D to test, so it was also great that I had two to compare. Some people think MFG's may send me a "boosted" amp or one that's not the normal. I was able to try out both amps and confirm this is the norm for the current Orion XTR 2500.1D amp model.

anthony delgrosso I had the xtr 2250 back in 2000. This amp got extremely hot as a part of its normal operation because it had an RPS power supply vs PWM. Orion makes very good products.

Orion makes great subs. I had two Cobalt 12s about 7 yrs ago. I couldn't even push them to their potential with the old kicker amp I was using and that was plenty enough to vibrate my eye balls blurry and give me an enormous headache. I think the 2 subs with a nice ported box was around $300 at the time.

I got mine and replaced my hifonics amp. This thing is amazing . Have running two dc level 3 12s in a ported box at 1 ohm . Speakers haven't broken in yet so it well only get better !!! Thanks a million

Hey Big D! First of all, I'm thankful for what you do. I'm really happy that you have stepped in the direction of modern amplifiers vs only OS amps. This Orion amp laid down some pretty impressive numbers despite the modest price tag. This is the type of amp that will resonate with the majority of car audio buyers. Again thank you and keep those midrange amp dyno test coming. BTW, how much did a Fosgate Power 1000 MOSFET cost new and how many watts did it put out? LOL!! Things sure have changed!

After watching this video I recommended it to my brother.I am a hard core old school orion fanatic.But I gotta give these new orion amps a big thumbs up.my brother has a stock alternator with one xs power battery in the back and it stays around 13.5 to 14 amps.I would definitely recommend this amp to anyone.It really makes a lot of power with pretty low amps. Definitely is worth the money it's a really great built amp

Orion is , was, and always will be the king in my opinion. I don't have the fancy equipment to put it on but I have real world experience with them. They make awesome power and super clean sound. Do not play these Amps with your key on and your engine not running. You will fry them with voltage drop. But keep the voltage up and it will blow you mind!

I have 2 of these strapped to a 18" Sundown ZV-5 DVC 2-ohm. Running the strapped amp to these coils in series and these two amps are still pushing in the mid 4K in wattage at peak. My car blows 400 amp fuses. Incredible!

Seeing this stuff makes me want to see amps tested at 12.6V, 20Hz - 20kHz, with THD at or around 0.02% THD - like the good ones used to. I would really like to see some of the best old amps pitted against the new Class-D 3KW-ish, all-other-stats-be-damned amps on the market that allegedly kick the crap out of the old-school amps in every conceivable way.

I love my XTR 2500.1 it does run hot though and I had to cool it with 2 120mm fans to keep it from overheating. Mine is dual fed with 1/0 because it will heat up one run of 1/0 easily. I have an alternator coming this week for it because even with good wire and two batteries it still pulls down the LED lights in my truck. I've been using mine for 6 months now with no problems.

@@212Tan a unusual hot amp is usually a impedance problem, not a wire or battle problem. In sure if he could afford at least 4guage wire. If your system can handle a inline fuse, you don't have power

Ex, lets say he has a 2ohm stable amp, but he wants to run 6 6by9's, so we bring two to 8ohm and leave one at 4ohm, know using ohms law r1xr2 - r1+re meaning 8x4=32 8+4=12 12 goes into 32 2times with a remainder 8 that gives you a 2.8ohm load, meaning he beat that amp all day long without overheating. So by you saying new wire's and batt is ridiculous because he's probably only running one amp, hell I ran 3 amps of factory alt and 2guage wire. I'm saying All this to say its got to be a impedance problem, because I'm sure he's not running over a kilowatt of power. You have a competition system, meaning you need batteries to get ever db you can, because the only differences between 100watts & 200watta is 3 decibels. I go back to the JL audio w5's, the specks for box was so big that it took up the whole trunk space in a 1990 cougar

yeah, 200 plus watts more than rated at 12.6v, 1 ohm and they test at 100Hz an easier frequency on the amp than the 40Hz tone I use. Would have been really interesting to see results at a constant 14.4

Swisher Sweets don't go over its recommend 200 amp I have a 150 in the back fuse block an have yet to blow it...not about the extra gobs of power it puts out but the spiking of the output that blows them from what I have gathered bc I wondered the same thing

Rebecca Deyampert it suggests using a 200 amp fuse so I def wouldn't go higher....but I have a 150 amp fuse that I'm using on my 2500.1 bc I'm jus lazy an that's what my fuse holder came with an have yet to blow it but also haven't went full tilt yet bc I know my electrical is still not up to par.... :/

Hey Big D, I've watched this video several times and it still blows my mind how much power this amp puts out. So, I'm sold on this amp for my bass. My question is do you have any plans to do a dyno on some of the Orion XTR 4 channels? Such as the XTR 500.4 and the 750.4. Was wanting to run the XTR amps for everything but thinking that if this 2500.1D amp is that underrated that maybe the smaller Orion 4 channel amps are just as underrated. Thinking these smaller 4 channels may try to blow my Infinity Kappas out of my doors. Seems like most amp dyno's on youtube are on class D bass amps. I already have a skar rp2000.1d which is also underrated. it does the job for sure. not like that orion though good lord! if you get a chance do a dyno run on that skar rp2000.1d please? I have the XTR 4k on a single EMF Banhammer 15". I have vids on my channel.

Spec wise the EMF Banhammer is closer to the Zv.5 in specs than the X series. Both 2k rms (Both under rated) Zv.5 has a 3" coil banhammer has a 4" coil. I think the Zv.5's motor is slightly larger. Banhammer, I believe, has a bigger spider at 10" vs 8" on Zv.5 but not 100% sure on that. Both have 70mm peak to peak excursion.

As a Class A/B guy, I can tell you, I'm impressed by these. I'm going to run with an extra battery and factory alt in my Accord at 3 ohms powering a JL 10W7 for a while to see how it does. Already really impressed with how it powered the four RF Power 12's at 2 ohms. I was going to do a "flex" video, but when I turned it up enough so you could see the subs flex, stuff was falling and rattling all over the OSS labs, lol

I think you'd get a lot of views if you made a dedicated video to the shape of the wave of each dyno setting, much like in this video. Most don't know that the "dynamic" test is a clipped signal of a few microseconds, it's literally the most power you could possibly extract in any scenario. Hope to see that distortion detector again soon, damn its been *way* too long

Loved Orion from the day I saw them work years ago, from then on my entire system are all Orion HCCA MODEL from the monster subs to the amps running one amp per sub, the amps are turned down yet my system is ridiculously loud at a 153db at 45hz even though the enclosure is tuned to 35hz.

They don't have to try to figure out how the amp Dyno works. That amp Dyno that D uses is no different than the one they use at CE. All amp manufacturers know how to measure correctly, some just don't actually care about their customers to give honest ratings.

+Subwoofer King should've asked me!! I was super impressed not only with the power, but this amps ability to control subwoofers. Old school guys usually prefer Class A/B amps due to their increased damping factor. This XTR2500.1D sounded Class A/B'ish to me. Hard to describe unless you hear it

Just bought this and the 1000.4. can't wait to get it hooked up. Big 3 with quality 100% ofc Fosgate and NVX wire already and AGM replacement battery for under the hood and one for the trunk as well. All I need now is a Mechman 240 and I'll be slappin 2 Sundown Audio sa12's dual 4 ohm till they pop 🙉😁

I hate 12 volt car electrical systems. If they ran 48 volt systems you could get that much power out of less that 135 amp draw, negating needing massive wire size for everything. Great video btw

Watching this video motivated me to buy this amp to power one 12" D4 Sundown sub that is rated at 1500 rms. This amp powers the sundown great! I have a Singer 240 amp alternator, the big 3 has been to the alternator, 3100 XS Power battery, 0 gauge wire supplying power to my amps. The volts never go below 13.8. All of this is a Dodge Durango and with one sub and 4 Focal door speakers my system measured 138db. Not bad for what I have in my system. Thanks for everything you do! I really enjoy your videos!

Wow, goes to show how much voltage can affect the power. Thats pretty amazing numbers for a 250-300$ amplifier. Just be careful about matching subs xD 6744watts on a 2500w sub might not end well haha Will say, I've never used their products. But this video makes me want to try a orion 4 channel in my next car.

BigDWiz hey Big D , much respect bro I've been doin car audio for bout 20 yrs been subbed for a min love your vids... the reason I'm bugging you is my Execution audio 1500.1 , to be honest really disappointed me because my cheap boss ar4000.1 hits way harder and lower notes. I have some videos of my build with my boss ... I'm just trying to figure out what's going on with this amp . I have clamped my boss and got about 1000 watts RMS with a clean sign was wave at 40hz but I recently had to sell my scope when I got laid off and am curious as to what my boss ar4000 does real world by your test .

Run 00 gauge (Big 3) to a 250$ - 250 Amp alternator (bolt on for my tacoma) and to all the other big components. You are clear for liftoff. Might want to add a battery for the extra juice. under 500 for all of it. Then u just need the amp.

I just bought the Orion XTR500.4 and the XTR650.1 and installed the 500 bridged in my truck, its supposed to be putting out 250watts rms X2 and im i have two blaupunkt 12 subwoofers hooked up to it. Im blown away by how much bass this thing puts out I love this amp the 650.1 is probably going into my 99 trans am now its pretty compact and you know those F-bodies dont have a lot of room.

James Murray tell me about it lol I'm running a single Orion HCCA 15 off 1 of these amps. Rated 2500 rms and 2500 watt amp... not so much more like 3500 or 4k @13.7 it's crazy. I tuned my amp with smd dd-1 and I had to back the gain off quite a bit otherwise I would cook my woofer.

Right! Still wish they would keep that 10k number away from the specs. Unlike the Power Acoustik 10k that has "10k" posted everywhere, the Orion just has it mentioned once in the manual as "Max music power"

I went with a CT Sounds AT2300.1 because of the price, performance, bass knob, clear plexi with the guts showing...and couldn't find any negative feedback on it either. Oh well. I'm not 💯 PERCENT sure but i heard that high BASS won't make u lose ur hearing but the mids and tweeters are the ones that damage your hearing from the high pitch in ur ears but im a TRUE BASSHEADS i can't help it i just love it it can't be to loud for me well so far but don't get me wrong i love to hear the music and lyrics as well because great SOUND is all of that combined not just BASS or just music without BASS it sounds great together now if it's for competition purposes then that i can understand but if it's just for beating the streets well i think u get the point (✌🏼💪🏼🔈✌🏼💪🏼🔉✌🏼💪🏼🔊)

For such a high quality Korean built amplifier... might i add with an internal layout that is beatiful... no jumper wires running all over the place like we so often see.... this is a steal at this price... the huge dynamic numbers are indicative of a well built amplifier... i think this is going to be the one i buy... this or the next size up.. those gut shots and dynamic numbers sold me!

I run one of the old school XTR PRO 2400 monoblocks in my Ford Exploder but I need to upgrade the alternator because it just can't keep up with the current that that amp draws at high volume. I've been sold on Orion amps from their inception. Back then they called them onion amps because they smelled like onions when they got hot. Orion has always designed and built top shelf stuff. It's good to see that they are still putting out some worthwhile products under new ownership.

I bought this amp after watching your test. It pushes my Orion HCCA 152 very well. It gets pretty hot tho I'm using 0ga CCA wire. I bought a 300 amp alternator, and a XS D3400 battery to go with. my only complaint with this amp is the bass remote. It's cheap. The wire doesn't make a full connection and sometimes you have to wiggle it. Overall, I'm glad I bought it. Thanks for the dyno BigD

Yeah, I was going to get the 4K version but I managed to pick up the 3700 for 450 bucks. From what I heard, the 3700 had a version 2 that ended up being later called the 4000.1. It's been a beast, I just now need to upgrade my electrical a bit though. It really is impressive, especially for the price. Thanks for the vid!
