Hey Teddy. Both watches are awesome, but definitely the Rado is a more complete diver watch. The size I think is perfect for the purpose, lug to lug makes it more wearable for different type of wrists, ceramic bezel, etc. Only thing I don’t like about captain Cook is the 21 mm bracelet width. Would love to see it on a 20 to make it more versatile.

Hey Teddy... Great work as usual. Superb information density and so well articulated. As a late blooming 58 year old enthusiast here in Alberta, Canada, working my way up the horological food chain, I had a close look at these two pieces not long ago. I agree that a person could not go far wrong with either of these. Nevertheless, I ended up choosing the Tag Heuer Autavia, blue on stainless steel. It was a few dollars more, but I’m very pleased. I still want the Captain Cook though. I think it really pops, especially in green. I wonder if you might feature some Breitling product in the near-ish future. I would consume your thoughts voraciously. Thanks, and keep on rocking.

It’s interesting to read through the comments and also follow Teddy’s comments about water resistance. Actually no one seams to understand that’s the water-pressure which is setting the limits.... meaning, if you jump into a swimming pool with either of those and hit the water with your arms in a strange angle, slamming the watch onto the surface - there is a certain likelihood of water getting into it already, even if your are swimming in a pool being just about 3 meters deep..... just physics....
@bort-3 жыл бұрын
Both are good watches but if I had to put my money on one, I'd go with the Rado due to the value you get. One thing that Teddy kind of glossed over in this video is how much more scratch resistance you'll get on the Rado. It's just a better quality watch that will look good for an entire lifetime for the same price. Not to take away from the Oris, it's still a great looking watch.

I feel there's more care for details, the domed dial, the sloping bezel all these thing intrigued me. Also I think due to the design oris felt big and Rado didn't feel 42mm at all. Both great but I chose captain cook.

I'd Like to add that most people will only use these watches for swimming and maybe a bit of snorkelling, so unless you are doing Serious Scuba diving on a regular basis, I think the water resistance on both watches is not an issue. I went with the Green dialed 300m Rado. I considered the Green dialed Aquis, as well as a Green dialed Mido Multifort TV Big Date. Obviously I was in the market for a Green dialed watch. The Rado just looks superior on wrist. I know people bicker about the lack of micro-adjust on the bracelet but unless it's tool-less it looks cheap. I have a 7.25" wrist and didn't have an issue at all fitting the watch. And so you know I prefer a snug fit. There's a reason so many dress watches come with a tool-less butterfly clasp. It looks more luxurious and premium. Rado obviously knows that considering a large amount of their catalog are considered dress pieces.

Rado is the clear choice for me. I have experienced both watches. You get more for your money with the captain cook. Ceramic bezel, more than double the power reserve of the Oris at 80hrs, bracelet needs no tools to change it and is very easy, double box sapphire crystal which makes a huge difference to visibility under water as opposed to the huge dome of the Oris. The Rado does wear smaller than what a 42mm would suggest, however the watch definitely looks like a 42mm and has more wrist presence than the Oris.
@JoseSierradeLeste2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but... 21mm strap width, no micro adjust, that's going to be super aggravating to fit and/or find an aftermarket solution. Also: 3hz movement. I get that a lot of manufacturers are "realizing" that they can nearly double the reserve by slowing the beat rate but (to me, at least) that higher beat rate is part of what makes the higher quality movement. There's so much I want to love about the CC but those are some real polarizing design decisions.

Really interesting. as per usual I always learn something in your videos Teddy! The ISO rating for example. Besides the fact that almost no one actually dives with their dive watches, I think the exclusion of lume on the bezel of the Rado is a major faux pas. What strikes me about both really is how beautiful the aesthetic is. I mean, they are both really beautiful watches. Very interesting comparison. I've always had a soft spot for the Captain Cook. However, I wasnt aware that it contains zero micro-adjustment. My Mido Multifort doesnt either but it's a buttery clasp and has half links, so that is fine as it gives you some adjustment. The Rado doesnt have a butterfly clasp, so why would they not include any, even if they just half assed it and drilled two holes for us, it would help. Getting a perfect fit isnt always easy especially with a bracelet.
