For anyone thinking that there is no micro-adjustment: Concerning micro adjustments: there is a special link in the box that is 1,5 times the size of a “normal” link. It is meant to be used to fine tune the lengths of the bracelet. So no micro-adjustment in the clasp, but a special link is provided for that same reason. And by the way, the Oris Propilot X is a crazy amount of watch luxury (manufacturing wise) for the price you pay. I got the Kermit edition and it just lights up my smile every time I look at it! 🐸

A spectacular addition to the Oris line, however the dial seems like it's taken from a different watch. With the amount of detail in the case and bracelet this dial absolutely needs some nice applied markers, satin brushed with some thick lume. Then this package will come to life fully and I'm sure this will happen in the future - when it does I will rush to the boutique to get one of these :)

Bvlgari Octo is quite successful with its plain dial for much higher price. I think the grey dial on this is a nice combo of minimalism and futurism.

I think most people focus too much on how a traditional pilots watch should look like rather than how a modern pilots watch could look like. Because lets be honest. These days nobody needs a pilot or dive watch for its intended function. It's all about the emotions and feelings it gives to the wearer. And in this regard the PPX fits perfectly fine into the ProPilot collection because the it looks and feels like a modern stealth jet fighter that can't be detected on your wrist whereas traditional pilots watches convey more history and nostalgia. I've tried all 3 color variants and I am glad Oris didn't just copy their existing dials onto this one, especially now that I have seen some renderings with applied markers it became crystal clear to me why Oris went this route. A traditional dial would be in conflict with the modern elements of the case and bracelet and it would look a little bit more generic. In real life the dials, especially the gray one, are very beautiful to look at and complement the modern aesthetics of the case and bracelet. I can see parallels to the Bulgari Octo Finissimo that like the PPX has a complex case, a simple printed dial and is also made in titanium. Maybe Oris has drawn some inspiration from them but they still executed it in an original way. I love Oris for their originality and courage to always go their own way instead of only pleasing the crowd.

Everything about this product line screams premium, from the beautiful bracelet to the fluted bezel, and the eye popping colors on the dial. The only thing that detracts from how great this watch looks is the printed markers. To me, when any watch maker relies on printed on markers, it just cheapens the watch for me. I wish more manufactures would stop doing that, and put on the highly polished applied faceted markers instead, to complete the luxurious look of their products.
@ivanharlokin

I agree. Printed markers can look great on a dress watch like a Breguet Classique, but this Oris is styled as a modern sports/pilot watch, and the dial is really incongruous.

I'm quite a fan of the Oris Cal 400 after all I did put my money where my mouth is. Accuracy is great and Oris build seems better than it's price would suggest. I love the new titanium case and the bracelet clasp buckle. I would prefer a different dial though. Oris does some incredible dials, the blue, green or cherry sunburst finish would suite the case and add depth but a personal preference would be the dark inky blue dial of the pointer date cal 403.Hopefully Oris will expand the choice at some point in the future. The new dials are OK and I have yet to see one in the flesh but just seem a tad flat compared to the dynamic case. A great review Teddy, thanks for sharing.

WOW this Oris looks NICE on a 6.5" Wrist... I'm actually a bit surprised. Looking at the specs, I already expected it'd wear great on my 7.25" wrist, but had a friend ask about his just under 7" wrist and if I thought it'd be too big da da da... Well, just shot him this video in a text showing the piece off at 1:35. Totally the PERFECT shot for anybody with a wrist of even slightly smaller than 6.5, and then up from there. The design language definitely isn't for all, but I love it. Would go DAMN well with some high-end streetwear, some high-end raw selvedge denim, and a nice pair of sneakers

I like the watches but the clasp is gimmicky and too chunky, and the lack of a micro-adjustment is a real design miss. The colours are different, but not necessarily in a good way. Hopefully they release some bright colours that really pop in the future, like Doxa colours. A bright white would be a winner with this watch, as would a bright yellow.

When these were announced I was thinking there did not seem to be much lume applied (nor much room for it in the design). Thanks for confirming that is the case. I think the size and look are outstanding, and that seatbelt clasp is so cool. I hadn't even noticed these were lacking micro-adjust, so thanks for pointing that out. It's certainly not a deal breaker, but would be nice to have. I wonder if that would be difficult considering the clasp design. Sometimes beauty is the pain of a tight bracelet on a warm day I guess. I would probably just wear it a little loose. I hope this wells well, and we will see added colors such as red or green too.

Cool watch, and I really like that the movement is actually made for the body (so to say) and not some small diameter Sellita/ETA placed in a case that's "too large for it" (not litteraly, but if you know what I mean.). But I could get an entry level GS for the price of this thing, or a 9F sports model with $1k+ to spare for a dress watch. I could get what is grail pieces to me for this money, and while this is awesome, it just isn't even close to stacking up against those. What is even going on with the extreme price hikes from Oris, Longines (okay, Longines are actually giving out great stuff that can be argued to warrant the price, but still, the price-hikes...) and Seiko (they look really bad here, with the prices they put on 6L pieces that should have 8L movements if the price was anything to go by). Everyone wants to jump as far forwards on the luxury train as possible, maybe as the normal watch market is dying due to smartphones and the Apple watch. Idk.

I almost got one of these but my problem with the watch is the lack of micro-adjustment and/or half links. Too often have I owned watches that just are barely off that sweat spot in terms of bracelet sizing where they either are too tight or end up sliding around my wrist. As someone who is prone to wrist nerve issues (aka carpel tunnel), a comfortable fit is an absolute must. Its really a shame because everything else about this watch just fits exactly to what I am looking for. I am hoping that Oris decides to put out another variant of this watch with some micro-adjustments in the future; it would be a no-brainer buy for me...

Oris provides a special adjustment link in the box. I just found out, and now my PPX Kermit edition feels tailored to my wrist ;) strange that Oris hasn’t mentioned it online. But anyway, don’t let the lack of micro-adjustment in the clasp scare you off. You can adjust it with the special 1,5 size adjustment link. Best M

The watch really looks good on the wrist. I prefer automatic watches with absolutely no complications except the obvious one of telling the time. I have an Indian watch with a Swiss movement which is absolutely not usable now, though I liked it as much as any watch. Oris has come out with a hand wound watch recently which appears really interesting, however, they haven't mentioned if this particular model has a ten year warranty period. It's really commendable that their watches with their new in-house movements have this. I think people will expect all their new in-house movement watches to have this warranty.

If I was to rely on lume, I’d go for a Ball watch with Tritium illumination, but if you want to use the Oris as dress watch, then the lume isn’t so important. That 10 year warranty is what would swing this for me. End of story.

Seriously, what are you even comparing here? To be honest I don't even know those brands (micro-brands) but I can safely say they are just chinese made microbrands with some basic swiss movements (or not even that for 500$). Oris is an independant swiss manufacture with their own caliber, they don't have to compete with any chinese watches as they are on a much higher level right up there with some of the "big guys". Sorry but that's like comparing Audemars Piguet Royal Oak to Tissot PRX and saying it's the same because they are both stainless steel thus are not much different :)
@brocklanders6969
@brocklanders6969 2 жыл бұрын
@@PoltergeistWorks Seriously, I am comparing value and finishes. You can't safely say anything. Oris is Swiss and so is Swatch, Certina and Tissot. Just because they make their own caliber doesn't make it any better than any ETA or Miyota. The Oceanus is Casio's premium line (mostly JDM) and is titanium with Zaratsu polishing like Grand Seiko and is from Japan. Teddy did a nice review of the Traska Summiteer (US based micro brand) which also has a hard finish. RZE is all titanium Asian brand. Oris makes a nice product but nothing that special and if you start spending close to that amount you have lots of Swiss options and high end Japanese options.

Grade 2 has as good, if not better, corrosion resistance. Grade 5 is stronger but that may not translate much in the watch world (aside from being harder so maybe scratch resistance is better). Grade 2 titanium is likely easier to machine.

It seems as Oris is trying to move up market with inclusion of cal 400 into most of their new pieces but in this new price range, there is some stiff competition. I hope they dont lose lose their way by moving most or all their watches in this 4k+ range bc at that price point, Tudor, Omega, IWC’s of the world will crush them.

Yeah, nice, nothing special. I expect at least applied indices and micro adjustment for + 4k. Overpriced. It's a shame bc I really like the design and I think there's potential here

I feel like this is a massive miss for me. It's hugely A or B for me. In so much as, i LOVE the case, i LOVE the bracelet. I hate the clasp. I am super underwhelmed by the dial. I love the design choices on the case and bracelet (other than the clasp). The finishing also seems sub par at least from the videos, obviously i can't speak to in person. Also the lume situation is frankly unacceptable for what bills itself as a pilot watch. I dont know i just feel like this was just a big miss. I feel like I've seen better dials on 150 dollar watches. Ive certainly seen better lume.

Hate the clasp too. Everyone online raves about it but it looks like a plane seatbelt... Not exactly something I associate with a luxury watch...

Nah. Big crown pointer is much better IMO (and cheaper)

Lovely looking watch but as always, other than Rolex and Tudor, itw just to big. If they release this in 36mm or even 38mm with applied indices I'll buy straight away ! Won't even think twice !

4300 LMAO its cool but 4300 is just too much for whats offered. Salmon dial wins hands down.

For that money you need to be meeting very high specs COSC is the minimum standard. looks overpriced to me. I’m not sure about the look.

I am considering offering Archie some money to do a review of this oris watch, I really don’t believe there’s enough distance between this and the Tissot PRx, okay you’re getting a fantastic power reserve but I don’t believe there’s going to be a huge gap in accuracy and the looks are very questionable.

I don't understand this release. It's supposedly a pilot watch, but has none of the characteristics of classic pilot watches. The bland dial with printed markers and poorly integrated date window make it hard to justify the price point. I was hoping that Oris would use the Calibre 400 to release a real challenger to the likes of the Aqua Terra, but this isn't it. Fortunately, the case and movement are there (if Oris could just own and fix the "jumping minutes" issue). All they need is a premium dial to complete the package.

There is only 1 problem for me and that is, it looks nothing like a pilots watch. No numerals not very high contrast dials. How they have the audacity to call it a pilots watch is honestly beyond me.

I think that's most people's gripe with it. However if I forget about the classification of the watch I think it's a really beautiful piece.

@@DrNitin14 Aesthetic preferences is always going to come down to the individual. Some will like, some will not. To me this watch feels like it's been in planning for a number of years, ever since the release of the flagship skeletal pilots watch, from which this obviously takes inspiration. However I feel somewhere along the way they saw how popular coloured pastel dials were becoming and decided to do a last minute change from the original dial planned. Hence instead of applied indices like on there current big crown ProPilot watches, they rushed out this simple printed dial to try and take advantage of the trends. Of course this is only a feeling I have, the dial could simply be what they had planned all along, but to me it feels like a last minute iteration to an incongruent dial. Also I think for such a simple dial, it's heavily overpriced when compared to their dive watches with the same movement. Just my personal opinion mind you.

I think micro adjust bracelets are a must if Oris wants to hang with the big boys.

This was addressed by the CEO. It’s not meant to be a pilot’s watch but instead be a pilot inspired watch. They offer pilot watches already. They wanted to make something that had the spirit of a fighter pilot.

Its not that bad of a watch but in what way is it a pilots watch other than the name ? It seems kind of incogruous.

Who cares about that kind of power reserve? If it lasts overnight that's plenty, I jist care about lightweight, accuracy, and thinness of the watch... Those aren't dauphine hands, those are obelisk

one of the worst dials I have ever seen on a 3000+ watch. printed dial with dull colors, no lume with basic hands set. the rest is quite good. just put a nice dial on it and oris have a winner
