I love hearing such performances that show what a bass can do in the hands of the right bassist. This will increase the number of young people becoming bassists.

This concerto, esp. this rendition, is EPIC!! Why is it not more frequently performed!? Bravo Nederlands Philharmonisch et Luis Cabrera Martin!

My father, Joseph Kazakevich premiered this concerto with the Detroit Symphony in the summer of 1955, not to be repeated to this day. The bass is a darker more melodic instrument than the cello, but more difficult to play. Maybe we will hear it played more often?

Has your father published the piece? A quick google search has shown nothing. I’m always interested in learning new bass concertos!
@kevinkazakevich57662 жыл бұрын
@@IsaiahHoltBass It is not a new concerto. It is the same one you played. What had to be done however was to write an arrangement for orchestra. This arrangement was hand written and was not published.

I think he premiered an arragement of the piano part for orchestra. Though an orchestral part already existed in koussevitzsky's lifetime (he never played it though because amplification wasn't really popular yet).

Oh dear! Such beauty:-))) A bit of Rachmaninov with a pinch of Schumann, played with heart... bravo Luis!!!!! Gordan
Flawless playing and beautiful interpretation, though I'm always a bit sad when the bass doesn't come as clear as the rest (I don't see any mics indeed), I wonder sometimes how the soloist hears himself playing in the fortissimo parts by such a loud orchestra

Bravo to the orchestra as well for not drowning out the bass... Solo bass often supplemented by microphones because orchestras play too loud 😁

How many instruments in the orchestra. A very large staff penalizes the soloist a little. At least that's what comes to the cortex of my brain
